I stopped by Oax Mex Taqueria about a month ago and ordered their Wet Steak Burrito, and it was hands-down one of the most authentic and satisfying burritos I’ve had anywhere around Monroe.
What really sets this place apart is the extra step they take with the steak. Instead of throwing in big, chewy chunks, they actually grind the steak fresh right in front of you before they build your burrito. That means every bite is tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced—no pulling out tough pieces or uneven bites.
And the size? This burrito is huge. It’s packed, sauced, and loaded with flavor from end to end. You can tell this is real, authentic Mexican food, not the watered-down, Americanized version you find at a lot of chain places.
In my opinion, this is the best burrito anywhere between Atlanta and Monroe. Places that care about the details like this deserve recognition.
Oax Mex Taqueria is absolutely FANTASTIC and a must-try if you’re anywhere near Monroe. I’ll definitely be back.

Ive been to that spot twice now the first time i got the order of birria tacos. They did have good flavor but i could tell they werent made fresh. Second time i got the taco plate with rice and beans. Both rice and beans were cold and the tortillas on the tacos were cold aswell. So i know things arent made fresh and the waitress doesnt really pay attention to the plate before stting it at the table. Im not the type to complain i just wouldnt come back.

Stopped by while driving through for a to-go order. Met with a friendly greeting by staff. Only person in the restaurant. Food came out quickly. I ordered 4 tacos. This is subjective but the tacos were on the spicy side. The chorizo taco were too greasy for me and not that flavorful. Steak tacos were fine. Overall it’s not a bad place for tacos. Worth going out of your way for – probably not.

First time at Oax-Mex was just okay. The street tacos were a bit dry and lacking in flavor. The street burrito was better; however, it also could’ve used more flavor. The rice was flavorless. Refried beans were good. The service was good and the place was nice and clean. Disappointed that it was not as good as it looked! Hopefully next time will be a better, more flavorful experience.

Food was excellent! Service was amazing! I had a bowl with black beans, rice, shrimp, and the other fixings. The shrimp tasted fresh and was perfectly cooked. So many times you can visit restaurants and the shrimp is rubbery and fishy tasting. This was not. The street corn has a kick if you’re not a spicy fan, but I enjoyed it. Portions are bigger than expected. My husband enjoyed his chicken quesadilla. Someone previously commented on the tea, I drink unsweetened tea and the tea did not taste watered down. I could actually taste the flavor or tea. My only complaint is the TV playing music was too loud. Other than that, I hope people give them a try and be understanding. Another cool feature, you can see into the kitchen and watch your food be prepared, this is how you know it’s fresh.

Entered restaurant, no customers, clean, except the cook and cashier was not even aware I entered restaurant, as they were busy on her phone.
I waited about 10 minutes for them to notice me.
No apologies, just what do you want. Ok.
So I ordered the Aztec Tacos plate. 2 with steak and 1 chicken. To go. No beans. Just rice with chips and salsa.
I take the food and drive around to the side.
The meat is cold. lukewarm at best . No salsa for the chips.
My husband says even though meat is lukewarm the tacos are good. I agree. Just like my meat hot likes it’s supposed to be. The chips to me were stale.
