Reviews
A special mention goes to Caro, who delivers truly outstanding service. She is attentive, friendly, and always one step ahead, making every visit feel personal and genuinely enjoyable.
A must‑visit spot where great moments come naturally if you are visiting the french side.
The feel of the restaurant is casual, not stuffy. The decor matches that vibe with warm woods framing spaces, tables and as accents, simple art prints on the walls and large openings to the outside with greenery surrounding the place, like…you…are…in…an…Oasis.
Guests have different options here for their culinary experience. If you want to ride the casual wave, Oasis has 20 different pizzas.
You could go traditional by having a pepperoni, margarita or four-cheese pie. However, if you wanted to try something a little different I would suggest the Bolognese which has a tomato-sauce base with ground beef, onion, garlic and mozzarella on top. Oasis’ 4 Saisons, also comes on a tomato base with mozzarella cheese, but adds ham, peppers, artichokes and mushrooms. Are you hungry yet? White based-pizzas have a cornucopia of excellent choices. I would try the Carbonara or the Tartiflette. The latter has sour cream, mozzarella cheese, onions, bacon, potatoes and Reblochon cheese.
Oasis also has a regular menu that first drew us in, with an Burrata appetizer with thyme, roasted vegetables, homemade tomato sauce and prosciutto. We also were up for their Lamb Duo and their Fish Pot. Check out their website, both sound wonderful.
But no, they were not to be. Instead, Oasis brought a hand-written chalkboard full of specials. If you eat out enough you know these are what you should always choose for freshness and creativity.
We chose two appetizer specials, the Duet of Foie Gras (one with truffle and one with rhuma vanilla) and the Scallops Carpaccio with a Yuzu lime dressing.
Foie Gras is a dish I have only learned to appreciate later in life. I love the rich, buttery taste with a smooth almost velvety texture. Oasis’ version was served with small crostinis, and each bite melted in my mouth accented by the aforementioned added flavors.
The scallops signature taste paired perfectly with the Yuzu limes. These type of limes originate from East Asia and are both tart like grapefruit and sweet like mandarin oranges.
For our main courses we chose Roasted Red Snapper with a Passion Fruit Sauce and a Roasted Duck Breast with Beef Gravy.
My choice of duck surprised my wife, because the night before I had duck as an entrée that was the best that I can ever recall. Why tempt fate and order sonething that may not be as good? Because it’s duck, and French chefs are better a making duck than anyone in the world. Again, statement of fact!
The duck was a perfect medium rare, and the sauce, so good. Served with smooth mashed potatoes, asparagus and mushrooms stuffed with leeks, every bite affirmed what I just said. Never turn down duck from a French chef.
The Snapper was of course swimming in the ocean earlier in the morning before making its way to our table. The passion fruit sauce added a sweet tartness to the snapper’s distinct flavor. The chef used roasted vegetables to create some height off the plate to complete a beautiful presentation.
We finished the meal with Traditional Crème Brûlée and Cheesecake Façon Crème Brûlée.
Needless to say they were decadent. No, there was none left.
Service was excellent. Our meal was paced perfectly over the three hours we were there. Another amazing dinner on the island, and another culinary hot spot you need to add to your list.
It was busy and hectic, the food was underwhelming, as was the surprise live music (very loud). Surprised by the high ratings.
We came a few minutes before our reserved time, yet it still took 15 minutes to get our table. After taking orders, the food (we started with a pizza) took its time too, and it totaled 55 minutes from we arrived until the food was served.
They had live music. We didn’t know and were not told when booking the table in person two days before, and thus were a bit surprised. The music was (too) loud, frankly not that good, and made for a busy atmosphere where it was hard to have a proper conversation.
The crowd seemed to be mostly American resort guests from the Dutch side (arriving by car), often ages 50+ and some families with younger children, easily identified by their colored wristbands. Had I known the clientele at large, that could’ve been a clue to find somewhere else. I for one am not all that keen on having tables of singing along to “Sweet Caroline” near me during dinner when I’m vacationing. Nor am I too fond of the stereotypical Americans abroad with obnoxiously loud conversations, a stereotype which was proven true this night.
The one-man band played some nostalgic and popular songs, decent enough on his guitar but butchered the vocals. It was not made better by the music being continuous throughout the night, instead of maybe a song or two and then some peace and quiet, before a new few songs.
The food was underwhelming compared to the alternatives in Oyster Pond. The pizza dough was quite compact, lacked any major gluten development, and was a bit bland. Topping options were good though and we had fresh pineapple which is a nice touch.
However, across the street is BZH which serves lovely French cuisine in a much calmer atmosphere. Over the hill, a mere 5-minute walk south, is Mama Pizza with Italian dishes and pizzas, which I would choose over L’Oasis every day of the week.
Even getting the bill took its time, both flagging someone down and then getting the card machine. We could finally leave and walk back 1,5 hours after getting there, which for getting a single pizza, two draft beers and a bottle of water, is pretty slow.
All in all, I would not repeat, nor can in good conscience recommend eating here, particularly on Thursdays.
