KATAAEF !! Walnut filled pancakes.
Had never tried these before. Becoming a fan of Palestinian cuisine!!
I was at this Palestian bakery in Hickory Hills ( Oasis Bakery) where I typically buy bread and some other middle eastern stuff. This time I saw they had what I thought was pancakes, piled high packaged on to-go plates. The younger owner was nearby so I asked about them and he told me that were not pancakes and they had to be prepared a certain way, that they are called Kataaef and are eaten only during Ramzan. So I said ok I’ll get a package and have it for my iftaari. And to my surprise his response was that he was going to show me how to prepare them and that these were a present for me. He went in the back and brought some gloves and an aluminium tray. He separated each pancake into two and in the centre of each round half he put a spoonful of ground walnut mixture ( which they were selling separately) then folded the pancake and pinched the sides. He prepared and placed all ten “pancakes” in the tray and told me that before eating I should pour melted butter on them; then bake for 5 or 6 min and then drizzle honey on them as soon they come out of the oven. So the pic on the right has the butter and honey. They were better than any pancake; soft pillowy treats with a sweet slightly crunchy walnut filling. So kind of him to do this for me and then not even charge me even thought I insisted. Thank you again Oasis Bakery.
It’s a wonderful store with lots of interesting things and baked goods. This was beyond customer service; this is hospitality.

Well, this place has ruined pita bread from every other possible source for me. I’ve never had a better pita anywhere. I’m sad we forgot to look for hummus, but we tried other things like kibbeh, pita with cheese and zatar, and Jerusalem bread. Everything we tried was so good, and when we checked out we got some helpful advice from the very friendly guy at the counter (sorry, I didn’t catch his name)
Definitely going to stop every time I’m in the area!

If I can rate this store 100 stars, I would! I drive 25 minutes out of my area at least once every two weeks just to stock up from Al Walaa Oasis. I have never had a problem with their items and their products are always fresh! Not to mention their savory pies…amazing!! I get chicken and meat regularly from here but this was the first time I got pre seasoned chicken wings and OMG!! When I tell you every single person in my (very picky) family devoured them in 2 minutes, believe me!! They were phenomenal! Definitely will be coming back for more. Huge shoutout to the owner Abe for always welcoming us and providing us with the most authentic, tasteful, and fresh goods.

Always come here for the fresh bread and falafel. They carry all the ethic groceries and a good place to buy lamb.

Disgusting behavior. The owner treated women with complete disrespect. Learn basic manners especially as a Muslim dude ♂️

This is my go to locally owned Palestinian Bakery/Grocery store. I’ve been coming here for years for their pita bread and hummus. Always fresh and delicious and lasts in my fridge much longer than any other place. They also have hot food like meat pies and cheese bread (Palestinian pizza as I called them). Vimto, salaam cola, goat cheese, rice, etc. They also have a halal butcher in the back. The staff is friendly and always super appreciative of your business. Support local. Definitely recommend 10/10

I love this place. The falafel is easily some of the best I’ve had, bright green, soft, and delicious. The kibbeh has a hint of sweetness and is absolutely perfect. I don’t even know what this cheese pita bread pie/pizza thing is called but it’s heaven. So glad I stumbled on this place, will definitely be back.
