We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and got mushroom slices with cheese and bread crumbs that were baked. (The menu said 3 stuffed mushrooms). Very disappointed with what was brought out. It wasn’t bad, but definitely not what we thought we were ordering.
For the main, I got the French dip with fries. Nothing was seasoned and the roast beef was mostly the fat. It was just OK. I would not order it again from here.
My partner got the turkey dinner and it wasn’t seasoned either, but after adding a little salt it was good.
Overall, way too expensive for the quality of what came out of the kitchen. I want to like this place, because the staff are great, I’ve always had excellent service. But, honestly I’ve been disappointed with the quality of the food every time I’ve come. I won’t be back.

The Oak Street Bistro is a great place to talk with friends. The stories narrated by Mary Stair and the pirates have historical relevance. This place is also great for parties, like birthdays.

Pleasant surprise. Nice, cozy place with comfy inviting decor. Big fireplace with gas logs. Too bad it wasn’t lit when we dined there. But it must be nice to be in its glow and warmth in winter. Good good. Above average. We had a party of 6. Service was excellent.

Food was very good, wait staff was very good. The portions were on the small side or I would have rated higher. The only other issue I had was when we went, there wasnt a lot of people there but we were sat right next to another couple within two feet despite the dining room being nearly empty. Both parties commented how odd it was because the room was empty and quiet each party could easily hear the other tables conversation.

A nice gem of a place in Alfred Maine to get good food at reasonable prices. The place is easy to get to with plenty of parking. The service was very good and the bathrooms were clean. I and my dining partner enjoyed the following meals:
Fried Haddock Fish sandwhich with fried onions and an iced tea.
Haddock fish tacos with French Fries.
I highly recommend this place to get a good meal !!!

There is nothing more sad than new ownership unable to maintain previous ownership’s reputation. Uneven and inadequate cooking on 3 separate meals. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid any seafood dish. Quality does not come close to price. It appears the local demographic keep the bar patronized. I give this place a year or two before they alienate enough dining customers and need to close. You can not substain off from alcohol sales alone. Perhaps the next ownership can properly price and/or cook a meal. Let alone make a proper Martini.

This place in small town Alfred is fantastic! Atmosphere is great and super cozy. Someone was playing piano last time I was there! They have great appetizers and drinks. I recommend the salmon! It was excellent! Update ! Tried a few new things. The mussels are my new favorite dish!! I didn’t love the seafood platter with haddock but the shrimp and scallops were great . Update 2. Shrimp cocktail app came with only 3 Shrimp for the table which was silly. The haddock was very overcooked and the Flatbread was rock hard.

We Traveled to Maine for Friends and Family Luncheon Gathering at the Oak Street Bistro . Our Maitre’d’ James Escorted us to our Table.
We placed our Drink and Appetizer order with our Waitress Marie who was Awesome !. Appetizers: Onion Rings, Shrimp Cocktails, Bruschetta, French Onion Soup, Fish Chowder , Caesar salad with Grilled Chicken and Bang Bang Shrimp they were Delicious and the Drinks were Ice Cold ❄️.
Now to the entrees Baked Haddock,
Scallops and Penne, Steak Tips, Filet Mignon and Sticky Chicken Tenders everyone enjoyed there Meal . But don’t forget the Dessert and let me tell you that the Homemade Bread Pudding was Excellent as was the Homemade Cheesecake and Cream Brulee . The Service was Great and our Waitress Marie was Awesome .

I have thought about this salad for over a week straight.
We came to this place when up in Maine visiting family. The space was nice and we enjoyed live music that evening. The bread basket was good, and they did a great job accommodating one person’s gluten restriction.
But this salad. You wouldn’t think it would work but it was *so* good. The chicken was extremely tender. The blueberry vinaigrette was incredible. This is going to be my white whale salad.
There was a bit of a wait, but it made sense given how good the food was and the fact it was a Saturday night. They had good chairs to sit in while we waited.
