We are always on the search for authentic Chinese (especially Sichuan) food. We stopped at North Garden because they offer dim sum, which is usually a good sign.

We stopped in for dinner and got:

– “Pan-fried” Peking raviolis
– Beef with ginger and scallion hotpot.

First, the raviolis came out deep-fried, not pan-fried. Which is fine, but there is a difference and should be reflected on the menu. They were good, but being fully fried, the texture is different from a pan-fried dumpling.

Next, the beef hotpot. It came out in a sizzling bowl. It was a large portion of beef, mushrooms, and vegetables (mostly onion). The flavor was okay. Certainly nothing offensive, and it was good, although a bit oily, but it was lacking an OOMPH. I wish it had more ginger flavor. Or maybe fermented black bean – that would have kicked it up a notch.

There are actually two separate spaces here: 1 is the dining area, and 1 is a bar and lounge. Both spaces can order the full menu. The dining space was clean and casual. The staff working there were very nice and super friendly.

From our experience, it’s a middle-of-the-road Chinese restaurant, a place I’d go again but not a place I’d go out of my way for.

I had the absolute best time at this restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, welcoming, and attentive—every staff member made us feel like family. The food was absolutely delicious—authentic, full of rich, vibrant flavors, and clearly made with love and tradition. As someone from New York who’s dined at countless spots, I can confidently say this is one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making the whole experience unforgettable. Cocktails were unbelievablely delicious. Def worth a try!! Can’t wait to come back—this place is a true gem!

Do you want dim sum but don’t want to go all the way down to Boston and deal with the traffic and parking? Then this is the place to go!
This is one of the only places in NH that has dim sum. We tried pretty much everything and everything was great. Everything was fresh and hot, unlike some of the more popular Boston dim sum places where things have been sitting out for a while so it’s lukewarm. Out of everything we’ve tried, here are some things we recommend:
Chicken claw in black bean sauce: this might be a bit more adventurous pick for most, but it is so good. Not too salty, but perfectly pairs with a side of white rice. Not the easiest to eat, but chewy and very good.
Shrimp in rice rolls: This is a dim sum staple we get everywhere, and theirs is really chewy outside and has no fishy smell to shrimp.
Sesame balls and egg tarts: These came out hot and delicious. Goes well as dessert.
Aside from the food, the service was also really fast, and the servers were very accommodating and jovial.
And to top it all off, the prices were much more reasonable than Boston places. So this place has it all: the good food, great service and very reasonable prices. Definitely check this place out.

This place was recommended by a friend for takeout. I must say we were pleasantly surprised! Everything we ordered was phenomenal! The soup was packed with wonton, the main dishes packed with quality chicken and vegetables! Everything was so flavorful! This will be our new favorite chinese place!

My family has been coming to North Garden for over 40 years!
It is the one restaurant I make sure to return to every time I get back to NH. It’s a family-run, family-owned business that hasn’t lost a step.
The food and drink is excellent, the staff warm and professional.
Many happy family memories have been made for me over the years and I look forward to many more.

Horrible …Horrible….Horrible!!!!. Beef teriyaki old and dried out….. Chicken fingers with no chicken in them and all crusty, fried, fatty, nasty coating.

Rice was a very a weird color, was kind of crunchy and looked as as old as Moses and very dry.

Is there a Chinese restaurant out there that actually has good home-cooked food that is cooked to order and not sitting there going from Frozen to fried and calling that food
Pathetic pathetic pathetic….

1st time trying this place as it was recommended. I spent $65 for egg rolls, house fried rice, beef teriyaki sticks, crab rangoon and sweet & sour chicken. When i got home, i thought Id received the wrong order bc there was a big carton of chicken fingers. I called the restaurant & explained my order & right away she said “oh its just chicken fingers w/ red sauce thats how we serve it” I explained there was no sauce & anyplace else ive ordered sweet & sour chicken, it is lightly breaded w/some veggies in a sauce, pineapples, etc. She says “Well, you shouldve said thats what you wanted” she asked if i wanted to come back for THE SAUCE& made no offer to credit me or even an apology.
By her response, i suspect im not the 1st person to be surprised by the Sweet &Sour chicken… They should have a description (esp. since its grouped with other chicken dishes that were similar to what anyone whos eaten Chinese food would expect!
That aside, the fried rice tasted burnt, the beef teriyaki was horrible AND they charged for hot mustard & duck sauce, not to mention there is an 8.5% food tax, which seems awfully high! Very disappointed as we were looking forward trying a new place! Wont go here again & will tell others as well! So sad & shocked theyre in business.

My boyfriend and I dined at this establishment, ordering dinner and drinks. I opted for General Gao’s chicken, while my boyfriend chose chicken curry, requiring a separate rice order. Upon arrival, my General Gao’s chicken was cold, whereas my boyfriend’s chicken curry was steaming hot. I informed the waitress, who apologized and offered to replace my dish. I accepted this solution. I also ordered a scorpion bowl for two, consuming most of it myself. Upon reaching the bottom, I discovered a piece of the bowl floating in the remaining liquid, accompanied by a mysterious black substance resembling mold. The staff promptly discarded the bowl, apologized, and offered a gift card as compensation, which I declined knowing I would never dine here again. Our total expenditure exceeded $100 for the entire meal, including two beers, one scorpion bowl, one large plate of rice, and two entrees. The experience was hardly appetizing, and the overall experience left me utterly disgusted. I intend to advise my friends and family against visiting this establishment in the future. It was not the New Year’s Eve experience I had desired.

My last 2 trips the Fried Calamari wasn’t the same quality as in the past. Unfortunately, with 2 in a row, I won’t be going back any time soon.
