Food was good but they gotta change the fries to thick cut ones! The small thin cut fries were not good, didn’t feel like real potatoes and lacked flavor.

We were on a scenic drive through the Leelanau Peninsula and were hungry. So we stopped in Suttons Bay and decided to try North Country out. We thoroughly enjoyed it!! Loved the adorable outside patio – which is also dog friendly! Everything was delicious- we had the Jambalaya, French Dip and the Chicken Sandwich, and all were fantastic. The staff was friendly and attentive. Parking was easy in the downtown area, and it was walkable to North Country. Even on a holiday weekend, it wasn’t jammed like some of the more popular towns (Leland and Traverse City), which is our speed. Definitely recommended!

Live in Traverse City and stopped in for the first time yesterday. Sean, the bartender, was amazing and very personable. The food was top-notch, including the appetizer(steak bites)! Sean suggested the French dip. It did not disappoint, quite literally the best I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for a comfortable atmosphere with great food and drink, North country kitchen and bar is the place.

Dog friendly patio. It was a little cold and they offered to move us to a different location near the patio heaters. We were fine but it was nice of them to care.
Food was delicious and flavorful and service was cheerful and fast. (Could have used more than 2/3 small slices of bacon on a BLT…)

We came over from fishtown because the restaurant there was too busy. So glad we did. We felt welcomed in to a rustic but elegant eatery. The music was pleasant and the hostess Morgan was friendly. She was also our server and did a fantastic job! The food was delicious. I ordered the brisket burger which was perfectly cooked. I was surprised that the pickles were slightly sweet but the flavor was a compliment to the burger. I can seriously say was the best burger I ever had. My husband ordered the steak bites and said they were tendered and seasoned well other than he did comment they were slightly over salted. He still enjoyed them and said he would order again. We will be back again next time we are in the area. This was a road trip for our 20th anniversary. This was our favorite food stop during the trip .

So glad we discovered this northern gem! Food was indescribably good. Great atmosphere inside and out. Clean (including bathrooms), well kept and efficiently run with friendly and attractive staff – Morgan and Heather did an awesome job for us! Only regret is that we did not discovered this place long ago. Did I mention the amazing food?!

North Country is back! It’s under new ownership, and the menu has changed a bit. They have retained many of the favorites like prime rib, steaks, and whitefish. However, they have made a number of seriously delicious additions.
We visited last night for the soft opening. If you are looking for something a little bit different, you need to give this a try. We started our meal with Fried Green tomatoes. They weren’t like any fried green tomato I have ever tasted. The tomato was flavorful and still a bit crunchy. Whatever they were coated in was flavorful but light and a bit flaky. The appetizer was served with a delicious aioli that had just a hint of heat to complement the tomatoes.
I had my first ever gumbo, and I am officially hooked. It’s served with a cornbread that is definitely not on my diet but delicious none the less. (I scarfed down every crumb.) Greg enjoyed a perfectly prepared prime rib accompanied by fingerling potatoes, which I think were roasted and grilled seared asparagus.
I believe they will officially open on Thursday or Friday this week.
Get in there! Give it a try..
You won’t be disappointed.

Seems I’m giving out 4 stars quite often here in Sutton’s Bay but you gotta do what you gotta do!
Stopped in here for a later dinner, 7pm, on Thursday night. Honestly the town is pretty quiet right now but hopefully as the summer comes around and restrictions are eased it will pick up. But for us it’s been nice and quiet
Sat in the outdoor dining area because it was a beautiful night. We had a short wait so we ordered a drink at the bar. I got the white wine sangria. It was light, refreshing and perfect for this evening.
It was only a few minutes before our table was ready and they asked us to pay our bar tab before moving to the table, I thought they could have added it to our dinner tab since we ordered drinks at the table, but oh well.
Once seated we ordered the lobster and crab cake appetizer. This was delicious and I could have had that for dinner (they do have a dinner option of this!). It came with a light cream sauce which was perfect with it.
Kelsey, our server, was polite and eager to answer our questions. She didn’t rush us to place our dinner choice and we appreciated that. When we were ready we placed our dinner order… Shrimp, fried with cocktail sauce and green beans and a cesar salad. We also ordered the appetizer of fried asparagus and glad we did! This also came with the same light cream sauce, yummy!
The shrimp was fried to a delicious crunch and enough for us to share.
For the drinks, appetizers and entree we got out of there for just over $75 (without tip of tax).
Parking was pretty easy because like I said the town was fairly quiet.
We didn’t get dessert because they only had cherry pie and chocolate ganache and I wasn’t in the mood for either.
Next time we’re in the area this will be someplace I’d definitely go again and you should check it out as well.

The Steak Crostini appetizer is a flavor bomb. So delicious. The Beet and Burrata salad is so light, flavorable and tasty. The charred orange provided to drizzle is the perfect citrus and acid note. Pairs very nice with their Ferrari Pinot Grigio. Highly recommend all of it. Thanks for a delicious meal!

I’d go again just for the kindness and presence of the staff, Kelly in particular. Nice mules there, happy I could taste all the ingredients. Good cod plate, tender fish and well seasoned. Get the French fries, they’re fresh and delicious. Skip the green beans, get the slaw. Recommend giving it a go.
