The service is a 5 star and her food is a Michelin star quality. I was not able to do the omakase (can’t imagine how great that is cause my wife does not eat raw.
The presentation and atmosphere is very sophisticated. The person that pulls everyone together is Emily. She was so attentive and recommends the best dishes and sake.
Coming from Southern California we are used to great sushi. However, this place is the epitome of a sushi experience.
Every course was a tiny work of art. Highlights for me:
Toro nigiri—melt-in-your-mouth and perfectly balanced.
Seasonal sashimi flight—delicate slices that tasted like the ocean in the best way.
A warm, umami-packed miso broth served mid-meal that refreshed the palate for the final bites.
The pacing was spot on: just enough time to savor each piece while still keeping the excitement for what was next. The chefs explained the ingredients and origin of each fish with genuine enthusiasm, which added so much to the experience.
Ambiance-wise, the café strikes that sweet spot between upscale and intimate. Lighting was soft, the counter seating let us watch the precision knife work up close, and the background music stayed pleasantly low.
For a birthday dinner, it felt like the perfect combination of luxury and warmth. Price-wise, it’s definitely a splurge, but every bite—and the personal attention—makes it worthwhile.
Bottom line: If you’re celebrating a special occasion in Jacksonville and love sushi, book the 13-course omakase at Norikase. It’s a memory you’ll talk about long after the candles are blown out.
Every aspect of this restaurant reflects a commitment to excellence — from the attentive, professional staff to the meticulous detail in every dish.
I had the pleasure of experiencing their Omakase, and I have to say: it was worth every single penny. Each course was an elegant work of art, prepared with visible skill, care, and passion right in front of us. The entire experience felt on par with a Michelin-star level restaurant.
The atmosphere only adds to the experience, with a bar program that is easily one of the best in Jacksonville. The cocktails are crafted with precision and creativity — a true highlight of the evening.
Norikase is everything you could hope for in a fine dining sushi experience and more. It deserves to be recognized among Jacksonville’s finest!
A special thank you to the wonderful staff who made the night unforgettable — to Jorge, the mastermind behind the bar, and to Chefs Francis and Joseph for their artistry and hospitality.
When our server first approached the table, she took the drink orders from the two ladies and then left before asking my friend and I what we would like. She didn’t return until their drinks were ready, which wasn’t less than 10 minutes. Only then did she realize we were still waiting, took our orders, and left again. We felt like we were left to twiddle our thumbs and watch our ladies sip their drinks. Note that we arrived at 5:45 and the dining area was not very busy.
When the drinks arrived, my friend and I were confused. I had ordered a mezcal-based drink, and he ordered one with a berry garnish, yet his arrived with smoky notes while mine did not. We ended up swapping and both enjoyed what we had, but it was a strange mix-up that wasn’t fielded by the bartender or the server at an upscale restaurant.
The server also moved very slowly and deliberately throughout the meal, almost in a processional manner. It’s possible she was dealing with an injury and doing her best, but service overall felt sluggish.
Another issue was with water service. My wife ordered a bottle of filtered water, but her glass was topped off with tap water before we noticed. The server apologized and brought a new glass, but it nearly happened again when a different staff member approached. The restaurant really needs a clearer way to distinguish water choices at the table.
Although our party of four remained polite and didn’t raise these concerns during the meal, an automatic 20% gratuity was added to the bill. For a four-top, that felt excessive, especially given the service issues. We certainly wouldn’t have stiffed our server, but the experience didn’t warrant a full automatic 20%.
All of this gives us pause before returning to Norikase. I’ve chosen not to include the server’s name from the receipt photo because this seems more like a training and systems issue than a problem that should be pinned on one individual. My hope is that management addresses it at a broader level.
Thank you so much for your attention to this matter.
Food was mediocre at best. Chef has an immature palate, fails to edit, doesn’t seem experienced – about 2 too many things on every course. For example chawamushi with fois Gras, white eel and the sugary top of brulee. Fail (sugar and liver?) . When I mentioned this to him upon his asking for feedback, I got that this was a “modern” restaurant and I’d probably like Black Pearl better. In other words he’s clueless. They use primary less expensive fish (snapper, etc) and extremely small, thin cuts (1oz?) – too small actually to really enjoy the experience. Bone dry overcooked salmon. Uni piece smaller than I’ve ever seen worldwide at about half of my pinky finger. To add insult to injury we got a tiny popcorn snack box upon leaving, get home, and popcorn so stale it was inedible.
Loud atmosphere. Complete disappointment and giant waste of time and money.
