The food was delicious but beware of the small portions tougher the price per dish was average. Order more to be filled. The service was called by name the food was slow but understandable due to the number of guests. You will sit in the town square.

Visited in Oct 2025. Lunch for two.
You need to first order your food at the counter. Then go find your table (like in a food court). When your food is ready, the staff will call/shout your name and bring the food over.
We had fish soup, sea snails, grill sea bass, razor clam and a small white wine. The food tasted ok. Portion was a bit small. It was still an interesting dining experience

A restaurant at a crossroads.
You place your order first, then sit at the tables, which are not comfortable.
After that, the waiter brings your order.
The food is somewhat good,
but the prices are high.
The bill was €65 for small portions.
The smell of the grill is also annoying.
I do not recommend it.

This place is great and always packed with people but the service is very quick! There are tables across the street but it is self service! We had the shrimp croquettes and oysters! Both were amazing and really flavourful! The atmosphere was great with people from all ages having fun and enjoying good food and drinks! I would definitely visit again!

A deservedly iconic standing seafood counter that spills over the Place Sainte-Catherine.

Three of us shared plates with a glass of white in the middle of the lunchtime rush. It was busy but controlled. Orders called. Plates assembled quickly to order. Staff moving with purpose.

Mussels were clean and tender. Razor clams simply dressed with herbs and oil. Nothing overworked. Just good shellfish handled with restraint. Bread to finish the juices.

Crate tables. Pavement underfoot. Wine in hand. The square carrying the atmosphere as much as the food.

Fresh. Simple. A small shellfish feast.

This is both a seafood stand and a dinette. You can order food and beverage (including bottles of wine) at the counter, sit at the covered patio across the street on an actual square and they will call your name when it’s ready. We had the fish soup, exquisite and great with the gloomy weather. The shrimps croquettes are a must. The squid was good too. Its a great concept and I want to go back!

The best food I’ve had so far while solo backpacking Europe. The lady at the counter was also lovely. It would be my first stop if I’m ever in Brussels again ❤️

Noordzee (Mer du Nord) in Brussels is a beloved spot near Sainte-Catherine Church offering incredibly fresh seafood in a casual, self-service setup. Customers order directly at the counter and enjoy their meals standing or at high tables outside, creating a lively street-food-style dining experience.

The seafood is consistently praised for its freshness and quality, with popular items including shrimp croquettes, oysters, grilled fish, and fish soup. Prices are reasonable, and although seating is limited, the atmosphere is vibrant and authentic—perfect for a quick bite or a light meal outdoors.
