Nonna Marias Pizzeria: A Slice of Italy in DeBary, FL
Reviews
The Italian bread came out first and it was hot and crispy . The soup came out next and that was excellent! Our main dishes came out fast and flavorful! The sauces on each dish were awesome! There was plenty of meat in the meat sauce and the marinara sauce tasted oustanding! The eggplant from one of our dishes was so good that I wanted to eat a whole bowl of it!! The portions were family style so you can order 3 or 4 dishes and share with plenty to bring home!
The owner, Marcelo, who speaks Italian by the way, stopped by check on us. He told us that he has been here for 11 years! We told stories, laughed and had a great time. ! I think this is the real Italian way! We were impressed as a restaurant has to be good to last that long!
The ambiance of the restaurant was tastfully decorated with a rustic Italian vibe, classy with low lighting making it perfect for date night!
So now that we are family, we will be back…but with friends! We can’t wait to try the pizza and many other menu options!!
Don’t pass this place up and if you have to go a little out of your way to try something new, have the best overall dinning experience, and make your taste buds happy, now that wouldn’t be so bad would it???
She took the time to explain the menu and recommend dishes, and her enthusiasm for the food was infectious. Our meals were served promptly, and Sasha checked in regularly to ensure everything was to our liking. Her warm personality truly elevated our dining experience.
If you’re looking for great service along with delicious food, be sure to ask for Sasha at Nonna Maria’s. I can’t wait to return!
The price is the only thing that gets me here.. I ordered a small white pizza and added 2 toppings and paid $25! They have a slice of white pizza for about $3 so I could get 4 large slices for about $12 when the small is 4 slices ♀️
The food is great but $25 for this small pizza is just hard to fathom I should have ordered differently I guess.
Food wise, compared to other pizzerias in the Volusia area, it was very “meh.” It wasn’t bad but nothing about their meat lovers stood out. Not to mention the personal pan pizza was starting out around $15 give or take (can’t remember now) but then you have to purchase each individual topping which took us to over $20 for a 10” pizza!
Once we arrived, no one greeted us. It was a seat yourself environment so once we sat down, we waited several minutes until someone came over to us. Then we were told our waitress would be with us shortly. We proceeded to wait several more minutes until finally a young waitress came to us to ask us our drinks. I tried starting up a conversation with the young lady but she didn’t seem interested at all in having a conversation or general small talk – which wasn’t great especially since we were already waiting for a while so this added to the negative experience. Throughout our time there, the waitress checked in with us only twice – once for the order and once for the pizza drop off (not counting delivering the check). Never once did she bother to ask how was everything or if we wanted refills. For a while my wife and I were deciding if we wanted additional slices but after realizing how long everything took, we voted against it.
The timing of the meals were spread apart as well. We ordered our kids food first while my wife and I were deciding, but somehow our children’s meal came out several minutes after our pizza arrived. Not a huge problem, but confusing nonetheless.
Overall, I don’t believe we will be back here. Hoping the owners evaluate some things and put some more work into their systems, food quality, pricing structure, and customer service.
This place has a wonderful dining area with historic photos of Nonna Maria family. With a bar for dining parties.
