I had the most wonderful experience at Nong’s Khao Man Gai, a cozy Thai restaurant with a beautifully curated limited menu. The standout dish—Khao Man Gai—is simply the best. The poached chicken is so tender, served over fragrant jasmine rice, with a refreshing cucumber-cilantro salad. The accompanying soup and sauce take it to another level. Not only is it comforting, but it’s also a perfectly balanced, healthy meal—packed with protein, carbs, and fiber. I could eat this every day! If you’re a fan of Thai comfort food, this is a must-visit!

I get the same order every time and it’s absolutely divine. The Khao Man Gai (chicken and rice) with a side of broth, pickles, and chicken skin (if they have the chicken skin lol). The sauce is a tangy sweet sauce with emulsified ginger I believe, and it’s the perfect compliment to the chicken. The rice is super flavorful but not in a competitive way, it’s honestly just gd delicious. It’s a well balanced meal, packed full of flavors, consistent quality, and clearly a labor of love.
Thank you for another delicious and nutritious lunch! ❤️

I’m Korean, and whenever I get tired of greasy or salty food and crave something clean, comforting, I come here – and it’s delicious every time. The chicken is tender with absolutely no smell, and since I love spicy food, I always ask the chili on the side. That little kick is perfect. The rice has a deep broth flavor that makes it extra savory.
The staff always checks to make sure I have enough sauce, and they’re genuinely kind. This is a place that should never disappear. If I lived closer, I’d come so much more often. My partner and I always order the Khao Man Gai and Chicken Peanut to share and it’s the perfect combo. The portions are generous, so we take leftovers home, and it tastes just as good later. I truly love the food here.

As a solo traveler, I love to ask the locals where they should go eat or where they take family and friends when they come to visit. Numerous people were recommending Nong’s, now I can see why. After my hike, I came into around 4:30 pm. There were a lot of seats available at the time, and I was able to enjoy my meal in peace.
I ordered the classic Khao Man Gai (Regular Size), Extra Sauce, and Thai Iced Tea. Looking forward to coming back again another time! Definitely check out Nong’s and its other locations when you have a chance!

Where is the chicken skin? We all know Chinese and Thai people eat chicken skin. In East Asia, any boiled or steamed chicken with rice will be thought of as Hainanese Chicken Rice. But Hainanese Chicken Rice is short-boiled chicken with rice–the whole chicken boiled, cut into pieces, with skin. So where is the chicken skin?
This is an internet-influenced restaurant. You have to wait outside 10 or 15 minutes and eventually get seated—not really seated, just told to sit in any empty spot, with no guidance. There is no service to lead you to your seat.
This is a Thai restaurant. If you serve chicken without skin, you should tell me. Don’t give me a plate of chicken and rice without skin. I’ve had dozens of chicken-and-rice dishes in Bangkok and never once was it served without skin.
Shameful for the restaurant. Why don’t you have the confidence to serve the chicken with the skin? It’s a cultural issue. I’m not Thai, I’m Chinese, but I still feel ashamed for a Thai who is running a fake Thai restaurant in Portland.

I love Nong’s when I want something simple, healthful and filling. Sometimes I go here after church. Their soup is salty and delicious, chicken cooked to perfection, and it’s perfect on a rainy day. I’m actually not a huge fan of the sweet peanut sauce that it comes with- but it comes separate anyway so I can just leave it off.

Nong’s Khao Man Gai serves up a comforting slice of Thai street food that hits all the right notes. The chicken & rice is tender and juicy, laid over fragrant, perfectly seasoned rice that carries the essence of rich chicken broth. The real star is the sauce—bold, garlicky, and tangy—tying the whole dish together with an authentic Thai kick.
The pork & rice is equally impressive. The pork is flavorful with a melt-in-your-mouth texture, subtly sweet and savory, and pairs beautifully with the warm rice and refreshing cucumber garnish.
Each dish offers a deliciously authentic Thai experience, true to what you’d expect from a humble food stall in Bangkok. The only heads-up? The portions are generous—great value, but perhaps a bit too large for the average Asian appetite to finish in one sitting.
Still, it’s a minor trade-off for such satisfying comfort food. Nong’s knows what they’re doing, and they do it exceptionally well.

Had the Khao Man Gai at Nong Khao Man Gai and it was really good. The chicken was tender, the rice was super fragrant, and the sauce tied everything together perfectly. Simple, comforting, and very satisfying.

Solid portions, nice service, rice is awesome, and that sauce is absolutely the boss. Get the fried chicken skin and do dark meat if you can. Liver is cooked very well
