Thanks to all recommendation from this site we decided to go to Nona Blue Modern Tavern tonight as it was half way for hubby and I to meet after work. We had great seating on the deck with view of pond with lots of birds. Our hostesses, wait staff and bartenders were all very welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. Hubs had a couple of half n half brews and the fish and chips. I had the special shrimp cocktail and Polynesian ribeye. First off the shrimp cocktail was A MA ZING. It was marinated in a lovely citrus marinade and the fresh made cocktail sauce was balanced and perfect compliment. The shrimp was so fresh, cleaned and cooked perfectly. The shrimp was also so big and they gave 7 in the order!!! The Polynesian ribeye with mashed potatoes was good but slightly over cooked as I asked for medium but it came more well. The ribeye was marinated in a Hawaiian inspired marinade and really worked with the wood grill kissed meat BUT the show stopper was my hubby’s fish and chips. The fish was served as one large filet lightly battered and so fresh. It reminded me of the fried fish I have had in England and Scotland. The housemate tartar sauce was delicious and herbaceous.

Nona Blue is a small chain of Modern American restaurants/bars that offer a vast menu, large selection of craft beers, tasty menu items, exemplary service and a very thoughtfully prepared and bright atmosphere. You can’t go wrong here for a family or business function. Nice place and great food.

I love exploring the Jacksonville dining scene and my first visit to Nona Blue was such a lovely surprise. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt warm, stylish, and welcoming—perfect for a relaxed evening out or a special gathering.

The menu offers a great variety, and their curated wine list has some beautiful options. I ordered the Asian Steak Salad and asked to add grilled shrimp, which they accommodated effortlessly, and the flavors were absolutely spot-on.

Our server, Cory, was truly wonderful. Handling a large party isn’t always easy, but he took care of us with such grace, kindness, and attention to detail.

We dined in the private room, and it was stunning!! It’s a beautifully designed space that made the night feel intimate and elevated.

Overall, Nona Blue delivered a wonderful experience across the board. I left so impressed and already can’t wait to come back. A fabulous addition to the local restaurant scene!

Wonderful restaurant, with an upscale atmosphere but welcoming to everyone. The restaurant using new digital menus. Everything our group ordered was absolutely delicious — especially the French onion soup and my steak. Highly recommend this place!

Dining at Nona Blue Modern Tavern is a reminder that thoughtful food, paired with atmosphere, can transform a simple evening into something memorable. Arriving right at opening, the restaurant was quiet inside, almost holding its breath before the bustle of service began. Choosing to sit outdoors was the best decision of the day . The patio offers sweeping water views, a soft breeze, and a front-row seat to nature’s own performance: birds gliding and diving with precision, a scene that felt both calming and invigorating.

Our meal began in unconventional fashion — with dessert first. The cheesecake proved to be a statement piece: impossibly creamy, with just the right level of richness to feel indulgent without being heavy. A restrained sweetness allowed the flavors to linger, making it an instant “must-order” item. The shrimp appetizer followed and impressed in its simplicity. Lightly breaded and fried to a golden crisp, the shrimp retained their delicate flavor, with each bite balancing crunch and tenderness.

Moving to the mains, the kitchen revealed its range. The chicken tenders were a revelation — not the afterthought one might expect, but a dish treated with intention. Perfectly seasoned, with a crisp coating and juicy interior, they stood tall among more elevated offerings. The accompanying slaw was a true surprise: bright, nuanced, and texturally distinct. It added vibrancy and originality, transforming what could have been a familiar dish into something memorable.

The steak and fries, however, were the star of the evening. Cooked with precision, the steak yielded effortlessly, tender enough to melt on the palate. Each bite carried deep, savory flavor, enhanced by the butter — a quiet work of art. Subtle yet deeply rich, it provided an elegance that spoke to technique and restraint, complementing rather than overpowering the meat. The fries were crisp, golden, and generously portioned, serving as the perfect companion.

What struck me most about Nona Blue is its ability to take dishes that could easily feel commonplace and elevate them through execution and detail. There’s no pretense here — just honest food, prepared with skill, served in an environment that celebrates both comfort and refinement. The marriage of a beautiful waterfront setting with cuisine that surprises at every turn makes Nona Blue Modern Tavern more than just a stop for dinner. It’s a destination worth seeking out, whether for a casual evening or a meal that lingers in memory long after the plates are cleared.

Nona Blue offers a fantastic dining experience with delicious food, excellent service, and a beautiful view if you choose to sit outside. The menu features a great selection of dishes that are both flavorful and satisfying, making it a must-visit spot for food lovers.

The staff is attentive and friendly, ensuring you have a top-notch experience from start to finish. Keep in mind that it tends to get quite packed, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead or arrive early, especially if you’re hoping for an indoor seat.

Overall, Nona Blue delivers on all fronts—great food, wonderful service, and a lovely atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!

Good food however we had come in fairly early and had ordered appetizers and dinner. The seafood chowder was delicious, the PEI mussels were as well, but the dinner of ribs was served at the same time and was cold…not having lunch I ate it as it was and my wife wasn’t going to live with that so she let them know, and they came back with a new plateful of food which was hot and delicious…
Our full time server was very accommodating when we complained, but the person who brought out our food early wasn’t very interested when I had mentioned it initially was too early for it.
Still I enjoyed the place overall and will give it another try in the future.

I don’t often give a 5 star but this place deserved it. Good atmosphere, great service and I was happy with the food.
My steak came out just a hair over medium and the waitress offered to take it back right away and I said it was fine, the manager also came over to be sure that I knew it would seriously be OK if I sent it back. So very good service.
Even slightly overcooked the steak was delicious. Grouper bites as a starter was very good, they had some good tartar sauce to go with it.
Good size portions as well.
