Nomad’s Canteen feels more like a destination venue than a Canteen. We were in town for a private event being held at Nomad’s. The show was on Saturday, but we stopped in on Friday to check the place out. Wow! Were we pleasantly surprised! What a cool place, and atmosphere. We had drinks, no food, but the food we saw being served definitely looked good. I would have no problem eating here. We arrived at 2 PM on Saturday and were in store for an all-day event. Live bands were playing during the day, and electronic music DJs at night. 5-stars for the sound and lighting, for sure! This place jams, and is set-up perfectly for packed house events. The drinks were stiff, and the crowd was loose and enjoying themselves. The upstairs, front patio is a super-cool place to step outside and get some fresh air. The “loft” overlooking the dancefloor has ample seating and was a great place to rest our legs/feet. There is a lot of cool wall hangers, and artwork items in Nomads too. I’ve never seen someone make art from old cassette tapes, but I loved it, and this is an awesome idea. If you are in Melbourne and looking for a spot to have a couple of drinks, and maybe catch some live music, you should definitely checkout Nomad’s.

We sat down and we’re greeted right away. After that, the server was a bit sparce. The place didn’t look super busy. We ordered the chorizo crisp. Excellent flavor. Very good. We ordered the Asian bowl, the meat was super chewy and it was so spicy it was overwhelming. We also ordered the carne asada bowl, meat was also a bit chewy but super flavorful. The atmosphere is really cool. Overall an okay experience.

I visited on 2/20/26 and had a very disappointing experience. My friend and I seated ourselves at the outdoor bar area (pictured below) and waited about 5-10 minutes without being acknowledged. After waiting, we politely made eye contact and gave a small wave in an attempt to get service. We were patient and respectful throughout.

Despite that, we were not assisted. During that time, other guests who arrived after us were served and had their orders refreshed. A gentleman stood next to us and was helped immediately while we were still waiting.

As the only person of color in that section of the bar, I couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable and question why we were being overlooked. Whether intentional or not, the experience left me feeling unwelcome. We ultimately left without being served.

I hope management looks into this, as no guest should feel ignored or uncomfortable when dining out.

I went to Nomads with a group of people during the middle of the day. As a result, it wasn’t crowded but in the evenings, I sure it can fill up. That is not negative because I like the atmosphere in bars when the crowd is there. They were very accomodating to us. The decorations added to the experience quite a bit. It would be worth a trip just to wander through the place taking in the atmosphere.

We went for lunch. Google maps said that they open at 11 but they do not open until 11:30. We arrived at 11:25 and the door was locked but they let us in. The atmosphere is very beachy and chill. Lots of creative decor. Love that the menu is on the healthier side. The food was delicious. The service was fantastic. We will definitely be back.

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience, this spot certainly delivers in terms of atmosphere. You enter through roll-up garage doors or side doors, leading to large wooden communal tables, a spacious bar, and even an Airstream camper inside. The quirky decor includes Baywatch-inspired art featuring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, adding to the eclectic vibe. Upstairs offers a relaxed lounge area overlooking the stage and downstairs seating.

The menu leans towards a “hippie Mexican” style, with fresh ingredients and no fried options. I tried the steak kabobs with Asian slaw, but the slaw’s tangy flavor wasn’t for me, and the cold rice option wasn’t appealing. Orders at our table came out at staggered times, and while mine arrived much later, it was served hot.

Overall, while the environment is intriguing, the menu and execution weren’t quite my style. It may appeal more to those who enjoy unique, health-conscious Mexican-inspired dishes. Parking is a challenge, and it feels like this might be better suited for nightlife than a lunch crowd. Not a place I’d rush back to, but worth a try if it matches your vibe.

Wanted to try this new restaurant out so we decided to stop for lunch. The building was really nice and they did a great job remodelling. The dining area had a few long tables and not smaller separate ones like usual restaurants. The service was great and the server was very pleasant and helpful. The menu is “different” not your typical menu so if you go make sure you check it out so you won’t be surprised. We had the Cuban and quesadillas which were ok, nothing to write home about. We weren’t feeling it! Maybe if the menu had “regular” menu items then we would definitely return. I’m thinking once was enough BUT you should go at least once and try it out, you may like/love it. Oh yeah not to sure were you park, we parked along a side street next to the restaurant and didn’t see any dedicated parking so maybe there’s parking nearby. Won’t hurt to try it at least once.

Okay local place. Had a few beers. Order nachos. Tasted blade. No real flavor. Even chip tasted like off the store shelf. They do have live music n a huge back area.

Me and my wife just opened up her own barbershop salon two blocks away from here so I walked over to have lunch and I’m glad I did. I had a chicken quesadilla with the mango salsa. It was absolutely amazing. The two female bartenders down on the first floor were absolutely amazing they were the definition of customer service will be back.
