My hubby and I were looking for a place to get a quick meal, we’re at McWane center and it was a couple of hours before the IMAX theater opened. We were told by one of the employees that across the street in the old Pitiz bldg were several places to eat, we walked throughout the food court seeings multiple spots with so many options to pick from. We wanted something fast, not to messy, decent prices, not to busy….. this eatery had a menu posted with prices, the young man there didn’t rush us while we were trying to decide what we wanted. We ended up getting a 3pc catfish and fries each. The fish was delicious, crusty, hot and a little spicy. The fries were hot and generous, with a spicy kick to them. We got some of the house sauce to dip our fish and fries in also. We drank water, but there were options of soda drinks, icy slushy Nola Ice with several flavors. There were several choices on the short menu: catfish, chicken, Peaux Boys sandwiches, etc. The man who took our order was the cook, drink/Icy ice maker, the cashier and the server. We went late afternoon when the crowds were at a smaller pace, we seen people in the food court eating or drinking a variety of the options, a birthday being with friends, grandparent taking grandchild for ice cream, some security guards going through talking to vendors there and no one was complaining. It was a very nice delicious meal discovered in a place that I wouldn’t have found if not for the MaWane employee. We plan on going back to both places soon ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐+

Oh yeah this the spot right here. I greeted the folks up front and they were patient with explaining what things were and even offered me another option even though I was content. I appreciate that education!

I waited about 10 minutes for my food and it was so pleasant when I got it! The presentation, the temperature, the quality… I really enjoyed that food. And it didn’t get really messy. The fries oowee, weren’t over salted either. And the tenderness and crisp of the catfish was exactly as it needed to be.

Can’t forget about the collard greens. They were a good balance between bitter and tart and then sweet. I haven’t had greens like that in a minute and it was a pleasant surprise.

Thank y’all and I look forward to returning one day.

This place is located in a food hall, so you even have the option to sit in other places and see screens with tv showings, or combining another restaurant’s food together with your meal.

Customer service where friendly, however, the food was nasty. I ordered shrimp and catfish Poboy with a side of red beans and rice and a tigers blood snowball . the the best thing on the Poboy was the shrimp which were authentic shrimps. The catfish had unclean fishy taste and the ketchup was super vinegary. The red beans tasted like it was straight from the can.and even though the cashier made a fresh batch of tigers blood syrup for the snowball , its flavor was still off putting like it was stale. I would not recommend this place unless they start cooking with love.

Stopped here for lunch. Service was great and helpful. Had the Catfish with lemon pepper hot with some Cajun ranch fries! It was very good and the fish was fresh. Don’t forget to grab a red drink.

Fried Catfish, Red Beans and Rice,
Cajun Corn Platter

I been wanting to try this place for a while. Love Cajun and New Orleans influence food. Everytime I entered Pizitz and tried to grab something, it would always be closed. This one evening, however, it happened to be open. I was debating between the sandwiches but decided to go with this combo platter that included Red Beans and Rice, Cajun Corn, and Fried Catfish that I had to pay +$1 extra for. Wait was not bad at all, but have to consider the food hall was not busy either.

The total came out to around $19. That is quite hefty but no issues considering a lot of food in Pizitz is overpriced. What matters is the taste and experience you’re getting.

As soon as I had my food handed to me, the box was light. I could have swore they just handed me a box with just 3 beans and some rice in it. Maybe something was missing, I thought. I sat down and opened the box and saw a little white styrofoam cup, dead looking white rice and beans, along with the catfish. Now if I am paying almost $20 for a meal, I want it to be a hefty meal in the box at least, not something that looks like the hospital cafeteria at 12 am. Again I was optimistic, as I was not going to judge the appearance of the plate that was handed to me.

Now the Cajun Corn, was really hot, kind of that over-microwaved hot and the color of the corn told me it was old, maybe yesterday morning old. The corn itself was very salty, just leaving no Cajun flavor to be tasted.
The Red Beans and Rice themselves looked dry and the rice especially just looking dead before it even reached the plate it seemed. Flavor again was more salty than anything, tasting a little like dish soap, and that over-microwaved temperature on them.
The Catfish did seem to be the best thing of this experience, as it was fried good and the flavor was decent on it. Not the best; not the worst; but decent.

Overall, I have nothing against the customer service, this business or anything. I did not read any reviews or look at any pictures before eating at this establishment, as I always give my full honest reviews without any prior judgement of others before entering any food place or restaurant.

Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but still, close to $20, it should be much better appearance wise, taste wise, and over quality and quantity wise.

I will always be open for trying this place again as I am speaking from my personal experience, and maybe next time ordering the Peaux Boys, but as of now, unfortunately this is ranked on the lower scale of restaurants in Birmingham, for me personally.

We came in around noon and there was no line. We ordered the parkway with catfish and shrimp with a double side of Cajun fries. I appreciate that the seafood was fried fresh and did not mind a short wait for my food. It was enough for us to share (we had just split an order of lumpia elsewhere).
The catfish and shrimp were perfectly seasoned and fried just right. The bread was soft and fresh, it reminded me of what I had in New Orleans. We put remoulade on one half and spicy mayo on the other….I preferred the remoulade. Grab some it’s only .50.
My only issue was the fries. We ordered double fries which wasn’t much at all. They were salty and kinda cool/room temp. Some are fried a bit harder which makes them slightly easier to consume but I would have preferred that fresh fries be dropped with our order. They were kept in a bowl under a heat lamp. I could have asked for fresh fries but I didn’t want to wait as a few ppl came and ordered after us. If I could give 4.5 stars instead of 4 I would because the Po’ boy was on point but I love fries and I’m offended when I don’t get fresh lol. I look forward to trying other options.

There was no line. Food came out fast. I’m from New Orleans and was disappointed in the Peaux Boy. The shrimp was fine but it came with cherry tomatoes on very small bread. I can only assume it was a Pistolette and not a French Loaf. The sides were old. And my snowball came out after my meal. It was also a very odd texture. Somewhere between shaved ice and the snow of home. If you are a LA native this may not be the authentic experience you’re looking for.

Great food and service. The best shrimp po boy I’ve had in Birmingham. Well seasoned, plenty of shrimp and toppings, and the fries are perfect.

First time trying this place and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. I ordered the grilled shrimp parkway with Cajun fries and dirty rice. The cashier said it usually takes 10-15 mins so I expected a wait. Over 30 mins later I walked up there and they hadn’t even started my order yet..there was only 1 person in line in front of me and I watched them send out orders to people who ordered after me. She saw me standing there and said they’d get mine out soon. I watched her put my fries and dirty rice in the take out box long before she started on the shrimp. 10 mins later, mine was ready. The fries were cold, the rice was clearly one of those bags you pop in the microwave and had zero taste. I ate a couple of the shrimp out of the poboy and threw the rest away. If I could give zero stars I would. Below is a picture of what I threw away.

Last time I tried Peaux Boys, it was great! Unfortunately, today I asked for the Coterie with catfish but was given fried oyster instead. It was very kind of the staff to show me the food but I didn’t realize the difference (fried stuff look similar) until after I got back to my place. I also asked for the red beans and rice, but was very disappointed in the taste. They tasted like there was no seasoning at all and the beans were not cooked fully. The only good thing were the fries. I would want to come back and try this place again but $20 is a lot of money that I could spend elsewhere.
