We went to Nodoguro to celebrate our engagement on New Year’s Day, and it was the most unforgettable dining experience of our lives. Every dish was incredibly thoughtful and intentional, many with flavors we had never experienced before. We chose the sake pairing which elevated the experience even further with unique, perfectly matched pairings for many of the dishes. Being guided through each course with beautiful narration made the entire experience feel more immersive. All of the staff were warm, kind, and attentive, and made the entire evening special from start to finish. We cannot wait to return for dinner again and are already looking forward to trying their high tea service.

It has taken me 10 years too long to write this review for Nodoguro. Chef Ryan and Elena Roadhouse have not only executed one of the finest sousaku (“creative, original work”) Japanese dining experiences in Portland, they are impeccable hosts and committed to this town. In fact, having dined with them through 4 locations (we discovered them after their early pop-up days), it feels like home when we come in. We’ve celebrated birthdays and anniversaries, and every time we are awed by new dishes and love to revisit favorite ones.

The photos of the beautifully and tastefully amazing food speak for themselves. The saké and wine pairings are thoughtfully curated. The pace of the meal with only one seating for the night feels like time has stood still, and you don’t want it to end. The price point might be a stretch, but the experience will not disappoint. Take someone special with you to share the meal and make the memory of the art that unfolds for your eyes and mouth – you’ll be glad you did.

A friend booked a table at the April dinner, and I did not pay enough attention to our itinerary to know what to expect.

This was, hands-down, one of the most delightful and exciting meals I have ever experienced. Each dish was beautifully prepared and presented with loving narration. The owners gently encouraged us with each delivery to experiment with the various sakes as we tasted.

Flavors, textures, service, ambience… all in mind-blowing harmony and absolutely beautiful to experience with close friends.

IYKYK. Ryan Roadhouse presents the finest (and most consistent) dining experience in Portland. For many, this may be a splurge but it’s worth it. You will rank it as one of the best meals you have had. Portland has Michelin quality food and it’s right smack in the middle of downtown. Go! You will not be disappointed.

We did the Peter Cat dinner with sake pairing. It was such a wonderful and memorable experience. Our table loved every dish and sake that we had.
Everything tasted so vibrant and fresh. We each got a bottle to take home with us.
The staff are amazing and interact with diners and were informative about each sake and dish pairing.
I will definitely be back here again.

We’re friends who’ve known each other for over 30 years and have been reuniting annually. We spent the evening here for the Peter Cat story. The service and hospitality was phenomenal. The owners were careful, intentional and brought warmth to every dish. The food was beautifully arranged and delicious. Every part of this experience was amazing. Thank you to the entire team for making this “friends trip” one of our best yet.

I’ve had Nodoguro on my must-try list for a while, and I’m so happy my boyfriend took me here for my birthday. The atmosphere was intimate, and the overall experience was great. I enjoyed every dish. Definitely planning to return for special occasions.

I’m came here right my wife for our wedding anniversary – and it was money well spent. The moment you walk it, you can tell you’re in for a flawless experience. Every dish not only was amazing, but had a story. I can not rave enough about the food, service, and how this was possibly the best dinner I’ve had in my life.

Bonus points if you decide on the sake paring! Well worth it.

I’ve been taking friends, family, and coworkers to Nodoguro since their 2014 popups. I’ve had at least 12 dinners over time which has never felt old. Ryan and Elena are amazing hosts and continue to make their environment very welcoming, fun, at times educational, and they always give such a delightful presentation to each amazingly tasty course. Whether you live in the Portland area or just visiting, don’t miss out on Nodoguro.

The meal was very well prepared. The presentation was beautiful. The service was superb! I definitely recommend getting the sake pairing and you should get an Uber or have a designated driver after this meal.
