The drinks were also great — strong, tasty, and served quickly. They had a good variety on the cocktail menu, and everything we tried was well-made and refreshing. The atmosphere was lively and fun, and it felt like a good spot for both casual dinners and celebrations.
The only reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that while the food and drinks were definitely good, nothing completely blew me away. But the service and effort they put into the vegetarian option really stood out and made the meal memorable.
I’d absolutely come back, especially for the drinks and the welcoming vibe. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for Latin comfort food with a friendly atmosphere and staff who genuinely care about your experience.
I should have trusted my instincts. The poor customer service during ordering was the first red flag. Like I was bothering them by ordering food? Go figure! Rushed, dismissive, and unwelcoming. I was hungry and low on options so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake.
They served me raw sausage. Cold, mushy, and visibly uncooked in the center. When I called to let them know, they claimed it was not undercooked after “asking the kitchen.” But I have photos. The photos do not lie and this food was a clear health hazard.
To make matters worse, they refused a refund at first and only offered me a dessert and another order of chorizo but only if I drove back, lol. At that point, my appetite was gone and frankly I was disgusted. The lack of responsibility was just as bad as the food itself.
This was not an honest mistake. It was a combination of negligence, denial, and indifference. In a neighborhood like Montclair where people expect high standards and take pride in supporting quality we should not have to fight for basic food safety. If you cannot cook pork safely and cannot own up to it when you fail you do not belong in this community.
Montclair deserves better. Avoid this place.
The Noches in Jersey City is 10000000 X’s better all around.
Our waiter, Steven Sandoval, provided such a thoughtful and excellent dining experience that I have to mention him by name.
He provided our daughter a coloring paper and crayons, and amazingly when our toddler daughter dropped a green crayon and was getting distressed trying to find it, he appeared out of nowhere with a new green crayon and told her how he “found” the crayon she lost. She was utterly delighted.
When it came by to tap to pay, he put the card in her hand and helped her tap to pay. So delightful! When we had to leave, he guided us out of the right door so we wouldn’t have to haul the stroller down a flight of stairs.
He helped us to the right door, and when we forgot our toddler’s stuffed toy inside the restaurant, he came running two blocks to return it to us. WOW! THANK YOU! I’ve been to Michelin star restaurants with service that couldn’t compare to that!
The food is incredible too… try the Arepa nachos. My wife told me next time we’re ordering two of those!
