Nobu Atlanta is situated at Phipps Plaza in the affluent Buckhead neighborhood. With influence from Atlanta’s lush canopy of trees and Japanese arts and crafts, the bar and lounge area features a white onyx bar volume that sits in front of a 12-foot-long river rock art installation while folded cast glass pendants cast a soft glow on the bar. The dining room takes you to traditional Japanese garden pavilions that were often used for ceremonies and rituals while overscale pendants made from shoji paper create the look of elongated, abstracted paper lanterns. Design language that is a continuation of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s imaginative and innovative culinary offerings celebrates nature and is integrated through the use of different wood tones

For drinks, I ordered the lychee martini, and my husband chose the Nobu Old Fashioned. The lychee martini was refreshing and sophisticated. The Nobu Old Fashioned was bold and smooth. We thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails. We ordered the yellowtail jalapeño, New-style sashimi-Wagyu, Black Cod with Miso, Miso Soup with Tofu, and Wagyu and lobster tacos. All the appetizers were tasty, but the Black Cod with Miso was the highlight. Full disclosure: we were quite disappointed with the tacos. The pictures are very misleading, so if you’re considering getting them, I strongly advise against it — don’t waste your time or money! We also ordered sushi. We tried the House special, baked snow crab, and the blue oh toro. All the sushi rolls were delicious. To finish the evening, we had Japanese French toast and a Cappuccino. It was the perfect ending to our dinner!
Nobu was definitely an experience; however, it’s not really worth the value in my opinion. I’d definitely go back someday, but now I know what I’d order the next time around.
Our first food to arrive was the crispy rice with spicy tuna. The crispy rice takes on an amazing texture with a crunchy outside and chewy inside. The buttery soy sauce was so, so good – the butter evaluates it immensely to pair with the spicy tuna paste. We ordered an additional 6 crispy rice cubes which cost $10.
We then had a tuna taco and a lobster taco. The tuna taco was the better of the two – the quality of the tuna was able to compliment the sauce, not be overpowered like the lobster was. I’d definitely get the tuna taco again but skip the lobster – it had a sort of horseradish sauce that drowned out any other flavor.
The spicy edemame was next – it’s relatively spicy sauce built up as we ate more and more. The sesame seeds were a nice addition of texture and flavor. Hard to not be messy eating this which felt wrong in such a nice restaurant.
We then had the chicken kushiyaki. Besides the lobster taco, this was the only part of the meal that I didn’t think was outstanding. It’s grilled chicken when it comes down to it – yes the cooking style added some flavor, but you’re covering that up entirely with sauce. Chicken did seem to be very high quality – it had a fatty richness that provided a supple texture.
For sushi we had salmon nigiri, a kappa hand roll, a tuna roll, and shrimp tempura rolls. The salmon was high quality just like the tuna – tuna was equally high quality as in the taco. I’m sure it’s the same grade. It was oceanic without being fishy. The kappa hand roll was nice – light but flavorful and honestly just a good vessel for high quality soy sauce to begin this sushi course. The shrimp tempura roll was delectable – the breading on the shrimp was able to shine through the other flavors and round out a perfect roll.
We could not be more pleased with the quality of food overall. Service was prompt and high quality.
As an added note – if you’re cheap and don’t want to use the valet, right before your last turn to approach the valet there’s cheap, paid street parking. We paid $2.50 for 2 hours. That saved 20 dollars plus tip that paid for a drink!
Our server was good, but the overall support staff really stood out. The attention and professionalism was impeccable.
Late-Night Visit:
The restaurant was packed and the noise level was high, which is expected for a late-night weekend crowd. The ambience is fun and energetic, but it’s definitely not the place for a quiet or intimate conversation at that hour. We only ordered cocktails and dessert, and while everything tasted great, the environment was a bit overwhelming and rushed due to how busy it was.
Brunch Visit:
Brunch was a totally different experience — peaceful, great lighting, and the service felt much more attentive. The food portions were generous, and everything came out fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. This is the Nobu experience I prefer: calm, elevated, and high quality.
As expected, it is pricey — this is Nobu — so just come prepared. It’s not an everyday place, but it’s definitely worth it once in a while for the quality and the overall experience.
Late night was fun but chaotic. Brunch was exceptional and easily my favorite. I’d come back again, but next time I’m sticking to brunch.
More details: Once seated, the service staff basically forgot about all customers — every table. We had to wait 10 mins before anyone realized we had not been given a menu or drinks. Then it was another 10-15 mins actively trying to get someone’s attention to take our order, but every staff just kept their eyes glued anywhere but at customers. It took another 15 mins before food came, but asking for the check was the hardest part. We asked one server for the check, and they completely forgot. We tried again with another, and finally got our check after 20 mins of trying. The family in the other table noticed our wait time and quickly discussed getting the check immediately after the food arrived. They also wait 15 mins before anyone asked them for their drink order.
Service was excellent from start to finish—attentive without hovering—and small touches (like folding our napkins every time we stepped away) didn’t go unnoticed. The pacing of courses was smooth and the staff made the occasion feel special.
Overall, a reliable spot for a celebratory dinner with strong vegetarian choices and professional, friendly service. We’ll be back.
What really sets Nobu apart, though, is the people. The staff is incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, they always make us feel so taken care of. It’s that perfect balance of high-end dining without ever feeling stuffy or pretentious.
We keep coming back because it never disappoints. Truly the best.
Nobu Atlanta is located near the Philips Plaza (<5mins away from where we used to live so we frequented) and is a nice spot to visit after shopping / watching a film, but I wouldn’t recommend multiple visits.
Don’t get me wrong, Nobu has good food – nice sushi tacos, sushi/sashimi/handroll, yellowtail jalapeño, crispy rice, and even the sukiyaki is on point, and ofc the legendary miso black cod….. but the portion is TINY!
At this price point, I would recommend looking for fine-dining options that are <1 mile away from Nobu.
I heard they have a new $75 pp brunch – not a super larger spread given the price (I would prob go for Wagyu AYCE ($50-70 pp) for lunch / dinner at this price point; they also serve decent sashimi
Overall, go once if you never tried their black miso cod – worth it; but go learn to make it for yourself, partner, and family afterwards! With proper learning & techniques, you should be able to get it to 90%+ at ~20% price.
