Night Hawk Cafe and Lounge absolutely nails the classic diner vibe — from the cozy booths to the warm, welcoming atmosphere that instantly feels like home. But let’s talk about that breakfast — absolutely spectacular!

The chicken fried steak was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had — crispy on the outside, tender inside, and smothered in the perfect amount of creamy gravy. Paired with their perfectly cooked home fries (crispy, golden, and addictive), it was a breakfast dream. And the coffee? Hot, bold, and just what you need to kickstart your morning.

Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Whether you’re craving comfort food or just want a great start to your day, Night Hawk delivers. Definitely a new favorite!

Great bar with awesome food and a super friendly staff. This is an excellent spot for a morning cocktail, especially paired with their chicken fried steak and sausage gravy—it’s seriously good.

They also have a great lunch menu, and the seating is well laid out with plenty of room at the bar and all around it. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it a great place to hang out.

One heads-up: parking is tight, so I wouldn’t recommend bringing a full-size truck. Other than that, it’s a solid spot all around and definitely worth stopping in.

First time coming here and the food did not disappoint. I actually forgot to take a pic of our food, but please know that the French toast combo was *bomb*. A pic of my empty plate!
Husband had the Avenue Omelet, and he really enjoyed it! The flavors were perfect!

They don’t have the NFL ticket, so they might not even have the game on. Almost no one there is interested in watching the game (even the NFC championship). The food is not good. You can get much better diner food elsewhere for the same price. I think they make most of their income from the poker machines (which line the walls of the main bar), so they don’t work on improving food or drinks.

Absolutely the Best Spot in Portland – A Weekly Ritual!

The Nite Hawk Diner has quickly become more than just a restaurant for me—it’s a cornerstone of my weekends, a comforting tradition I share with my girlfriend every Saturday or Sunday (sometimes both). If you’re looking for a place that’s effortlessly cool, reliably delicious, and full of character, look no further.

Let’s start with the *vibe*. Nite Hawk offers the best of both worlds: a classic diner on one side and a laid-back dive bar on the other. Whether you’re in the mood for pancakes and coffee or a burger and a beer with a game of pool, this place delivers. It has that old-school Portland charm—gritty in the best way—with neon lights, cozy booths, and the kind of unpretentious atmosphere that invites you to stay a little longer.

Now, on to the **food**—which is *always* consistent. No matter what we order, it’s solid, satisfying, and hits the spot every single time. Their hashbrowns are golden and crispy perfection, the breakfast plates are hearty and comforting, and the burgers? Juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. They know what they do well and they stick to it—no frills, just reliably great food that never disappoints.

But what truly makes this place shine is the service, especially from Melissa, who is hands-down one of the best servers we’ve ever encountered. She’s a total pro—warm, friendly, fast, and always on point. She remembers our orders, checks in without hovering, and brings a genuinely kind and welcoming energy that makes us feel like regulars (because we are!). Melissa is the kind of person who can brighten your whole day with a smile and a fresh cup of coffee.

Whether we’re lounging in the diner booths or playing pool in the dive side with a cold drink in hand, the Nite Hawk is our happy place. It’s a rare gem that balances personality, comfort, and quality without trying too hard—because it doesn’t have to. It’s just *that* good.

10/10. Forever favorite. If you haven’t been, go. If you’ve been, you already know.

Classic dive bar vibes but with a great brunch option for a Sunday! They’ve got all day breakfast I think and have a bustling Sunday afternoon crowd! Staff was very attentive with all I could drink coffee! Would recommend as a neighborhood local spot!

Atmosphere is to die for. Both the breakfast area and the bar, especially the breakfast area. Taco omelet is the best, they have pie, it’s incredible

Great vibes, great service, lackluster food. The Eggs Benedict and the Chicken Fried steak (eggs, and hash browns) all had that tainted old grease flavor. Too bad!

Great little place so far, Love that they put the ice water in a glass. It’s super cold and delicious. The coffee is yummy. The bartender Melissa is amazing such a sweetheart. Definitely coming back. Highly recommend the place! My breakfast was delicious.
