The waitress was awesome here!! However, the water tasted like chlorine, so we got sparkling instead, which ended up being $20 extra on our bill for the four of us. We came for lunch, which was a limited menu unfortunately, and split the spanakopita (very small serving), gyro flatbread (had fries on it, which was kinda weird) fig flatbread, saganaki (which was probably my favourite…fried cheese with fig jam), and rice pilaf. Every dish had feta lol. The food took a very long time to come out, although it was not very busy when we went around 1pm. The plates they used were very aesthetic, and the overall vibe was very…white.

After a long absence, it is nice to have Greek cuisine back in Portsmouth. This eatery just opened. It is not yet doing online/ takeout orders. The staff was amazing. Patience is necessary as the the seating capacity is small and you may have to wait. Already there are a lot of repeat customers

The space is absolutely beautiful and welcoming. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable AND the food is incredible.
As someone who is gluten free, I was thrilled to learn the fryer is 100% dedicated gluten free.
The lemon chicken, superb and the zucchini chips, I’m still dreaming about. I’ll be back for sure.

I heard there was a new Greek restaurant in Portsmouth and had to try it!
Nisi is small and cute inside, with simple, authentic colors and decorations like you would find in Greece.
When I arrived, the host stand was empty. A couple servers walked by but did not acknowledge me or the people that came in behind me. There is not a sign indicating to wait, so a “we’ll be right there” or “seat yourselves” from the servers would have been helpful.
After a couple minutes, I walked up to the bar and was greeted by the bartender. She said it was ok that I sat there, then grabbed me some water and a menu. I cant remember her name but she was friendly and her service impeccable. Her service deserved 5 stars. I gave 4 stars for service only because of the start of my visit but the rest of it was excellent.
The food was delicious. I couldnt decide on an app, so I started with a pick 3 of Fava, marinated feta and olives, and their daily hummus, served with pita. All were delicious and the Fava was my favorite.
I also ordered the Souvlaki style grilled chicken gyro. It was the BEST gyro that I’ve had since I visited Greece a year ago. It was authentic to how they make it in Greece, with French fries IN the gyro.
It was absolute perfection with tender and flavorful chicken, fries, fresh veggies and delicious tzatziki sauce. This will be my go-to gyro spot from now on!
Portion sizes were just right and prices reasonable for the quality that you get. Overall its a good value!
Overall, Nisi is an absolute GEM!!
I cant wait to go back with friends and try the rest of their menu.

As someone who grew up in a Greek family this place feels like it’s serving home cooked food. Still takes second place behind Yiayia’s kitchen but it’s close. Staff is awesome and the vibe inside is amazing whether it’s at the bar or in a booth. Can’t recommend enough, so glad Portsmouth finally has a good Greek spot again!

Wow!!! I went today for lunch and the food was amazing!!!! SUCH authentic Greek food! The vegetables were so fresh and the portions were extremely generous! The orange cake at the end was FABULOUS and Theresa our waitress was so sweet and so attentive!! We will be back very very soon!!!

It’s like walking into a piece of Greece in New Hampshire. From the decor, to the service, and of course the food everything was top notch. Gyro was very delicious and I can’t wait to come back and try a plate after 5pm.

When a restaurant with a cuisine long missing from a community joins the dining scene, there are some basics that make it successful. First, if you’re replacing a locally loved icon, don’t try to replace it, and second, keep your menu limited to what you do well. Too many places have come and gone because they try to be everything to everyone.
Visiting our newest venue today was a treat. A small, exceptionally well-designed space, with about a dozen tables, plus a well-stocked bar with a similar number of seats. Any place this new had better be immaculate, and they were from entry to restrooms. Offering Greek cuisine, Nisi, located in the former Bob’s Broiled Chicken on Islington Street was comfortable, welcoming, moderately accessible, and hospitable. I say moderately accessible because the entryway could be a challenge to anyone using a wheelchair.
Trying a variety of dishes, we found each to be prepared to perfection, with an outstanding rating for the batter/coating used on their fried eggplant with tzatziki. Their Hummus was both unique, and delicious as were the fingerling potatoes. The Kreatopita “pie” was authentic, light, flavorful and quite good. It’s a quirk of mine that if you’re going to sell carbonated soda, tell people you charge for refills. Especially when the initial serving is small, but that’s just my own thing.
Overall, 9.3 out of 10. No doubt Nisi will require more space soon. It was full at lunch on a Friday, so people are already finding this little treasure. To have something this good, that did not try to replace Café Nostimo, but has created an identity for itself, in a place with free, off-street parking is a really positive addition to the Portsmouth dining scene. We look forward to our next visit.
