Nikkei Izakaya is a casual, ingredient-driven bar and eatery located at The Broadside in New Orleans’ Mid-City. Drawing inspiration from the bold, cross-cultural flavors developed by Japanese immigrant communities around the world, Nikkei blends Japanese culinary traditions with locally sourced Gulf seafood, seasonal produce, and regional proteins. The menu features craveable small plates, a raw menu of ceviches, tiraditos and sushi, dinner entrees like Crispy Nori Tacos or Chashu Pork, as well comfort-pub classics like Gulf Fish ’n’ Fry (think Gulf fish and chips), Katsu Chicken Sandwiches and hand-cut “Pabu Fries” —all scratch-made and designed to pair effortlessly with craft cocktails, sake, or a cold beer. Wow all the food was so good. Such friendly staff, we got to talk with the owner for a bit despite it being busy. Whether you’re local or visiting, I recommend coming out here. The one star reviews are not fair since they are complaining about it being 21+ with it being a bar but plan accordingly if you’re trying to come here. It seems like there is family friendly seating outside though

i couldn’t tell if the edamame was supposed to be cold or hot … some pieces were right out the freezer others warm… wild stuff here on any given night

Food was great. Delicious fusion dishes! Service staff were delightful. Some of the art does feature cats, so it’s 5 stars for me.

Our party of 6 had a fabulous experience here! Very fun, delicious “Nikkei” centered food. Nikkei generally refers to Japanese emigrants and their descendants who have established communities worldwide, so there are influences from Peru, Brazil, USA and more in the dishes. The owner, Dana, was charming and hospitable.

Local, wild caught seafood, internationally inspired & delicious. They catered my mom’s repass and all guests raved about the food.

Eaten here half a dozen times now, and love having it in the neighborhood. To address some concerns:

1. It’s a bar that serves Japanese pub-style food, so 21+ only

2. It’s counter service, so you order at the bar. You do NOT have to add tip before you get food, as claimed in another review

Staff is awesome, cool selection of draft beer, fun cocktails

Incredible! Love the Japanese, Peruvian, and other Nikkei flavors. The Tiradito and Causa were excellent, like they were straight out of Lima. Super cute location at The Broadside with very friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back!
