Reviews
If you grew up in Metro Detroit eating Buddy’s, Cloverleaf, or Loui’s, you need to try Nikki’s. It’s like stepping back in time to when pizza tasted real — better dough, richer sauce, real cheese, and that perfect corner crunch. Hands down the best square pizza I’ve had in 50 years of eating Detroit pizza.

Full Review:
I’ve been eating pizza all over Metro Detroit for half a century — Buddy’s, Cloverleaf, Loui’s, Shield’s, you name it. I finally tried Nikki’s Pizza in Detroit, and honestly, it’s the best square pizza I’ve ever had.
It reminded me of how pizza used to taste when I was a kid — before everyone started cutting corners with cheaper ingredients. The dough is exceptional: soft inside with a beautifully crisp, buttery crust. The sauce has that old-school depth and balance — not too sweet, not too salty, just perfectly seasoned. The cheese tastes real, rich, and properly melted into the corners the way it should.
It’s like Cloverleaf but upgraded — better crust, better sauce, better cheese. You can tell there’s pride behind it. Nikki’s somehow brought back the taste I’ve been missing for decades.
If you grew up on real Detroit-style pizza, go try it. It’s the closest thing I’ve found to time travel.
Went to Niki’s after doing some searching (and also this was the only one of the big names that popped up open on a Tuesday which surprised me).
I can’t speak for the rest of the Greek menu, but we ordered a small 1/2 Mediterranean 1/2 Cheese and it was super delicious!
I’m a New Yorker born and raised. While I will never say this dethrones NY style, I will definitely say this is so much better than Chicago deep dish and it has made me start looking up where I can get Detroit style local to me. Though I can’t imagine it’ll be anywhere as good as this was.
Pictures are included you can tell one portion was cooked and another one wasn’t. And the wet dough under the toppings,
The worst part of the sandwich, and there were many bad parts, was the chicken. It was gummy, chewy, and completely flavorless. It tasted like it had been frozen, soaked in water, and microwaved. There was no salt, no seasoning, no grilling, nothing. It was the worst gyro I have ever had, and it is sad that a place called Greek Town does not seem to know how to make a proper gyro.
