Came in for a quick carry-out sushi fix and Niji definitely delivered on efficiency and value. If you’re looking for budget-friendly, fast sushi, this is absolutely your spot.

The Logistics: The order was ready right on time—five stars for punctuality! Four rolls turned out to be the perfect, Goldilocks amount of food for two people. You really can’t beat the reasonable price point here. The temperature of the rolls was fine for carry-out, which is a win in my book.

The Rolls (and the Sauce Factor): Now, if you’re hunting for traditional Edo-style sushi, you might want to adjust your map coordinates. These rolls lean heavily into the sweet and saucy side of the spectrum.

My poor fried roll arrived looking like it had lost a wrestling match with a bottle of teriyaki—it was tragically soggy, bless its heart. The sheer volume of sweet sauce on the other rolls was enough to completely mask the flavor of the fish itself. On the one hand, I can’t comment on freshness, but on the other, I also couldn’t taste anything offensive, so let’s call that a draw! The spicy tuna was chopped up pieces instead of a solid chunk, which is slightly unusual but ultimately served its purpose (aka, providing spice).

The Verdict:

Overall, Niji Sushi operates comfortably in the “one step above supermarket sushi” category. It’s the sushi equivalent of comfort food—cheap, reliable, and aggressively friendly with the sweet nectar. A great, non-committal, affordable sushi option. Besides it’s not like you have any other options in the area for sushi.

One of the strangest restaurant experiences I’ve ever had.
Upon entering a boy sitting at a table jumped up and started talking to me. The parents made no attempt to bring him back to the table. He went from table to table interrupting guests with his yabbering. He may have been special needs, but the parents definitely were.
I ordered the bento tempura and tea. The tea tasted like dirty water. The salad had what looked and tasted like thousand Island dressing.
The tempura was the greasiest I’ve ever had.
They didn’t provide a soy sauce dipping bowl for the sushi roll.
The waitress, while nice, never once checked on me or asked how the meal was.
There was a small child that seemingly belonged to the owners family coughing in the kitchen. I could hear an infant crying and a children’s show playing loudly from a back room.
Most people coming here are take-out only, and they lined up right next to my table waiting for their order instead of staying by the front door.
This was like a dining experience from the Twilight Zone.

Little gem tucked away on the southside of Olathe. Sushi was presented well and was pleasing to the palate.
I was charmed by the art and decor, so I took some snapshots. For 5:30pm on a Saturday, we were the only people in there. Numerous carry out orders came and went, but no sit down patrons.
If you are on the fence about whether to try it out or not, give it a go.

Amazing food. Fresh and fast. Great atmosphere. Unbeatable prices for sushi! $11 sushi lunch. Habachi dinner keenly priced. Only downside is their mediocre service. Overall, definitely recommend as a hidden sushi gem!

Definitely, there is room for improvement with customer service. Sushi rolls are good, in general the rice is good, the fried rice a bit too greasy, flavors were there but very mild, I would come back, but it’s not in my list of favorite places for Japanese food.

We ordered Las Vegas rolls, eel with cucumber sushi, crab Rangoon and beef udon. The last Vegas rolls had too much cream cheese and overpowered the rest of the ingredients. Beef udon was average along with crab Rangoon. The eel with cucumber was the best of what we ordered. We ordered take out and I will say they got our order correct and were on time with pick up. It was our first and last time for us.
