Very popular Thai spot in Pittsburgh. They have multiple locations as well, including one in downtown but I went to try this spot in the North Side. It is really good but quite expensive. I got to try their chicken satay, Tom kha soup, pad see ew with tofu, and Thai custard.

Now, the Tom kha soup I didn’t have very much of, but it was decent. Lots of coconut milk to balance the spice (not too spicy at all), but I’m just not really used to this flavor. The chicken satay, though, was really good. Very lean chicken grilled perfectly with a nice sauce. Definitely recommend.

As for the mains, the pad see ew was also very tasty. Quite noodle heavy here, which I don’t mind. The vegetables are fresh, and the tofu was nicely cooked. Definitely recommend as well.

Finally, the Thai custard. It was also excellent. Interestingly, there’s a hint of chocolate as well or something of the sort besides just coconut milk. But still, very good, very creamy, and just a nice dessert.

All in all, I really like this spot. They have awesome outdoor seating if you are able to catch it (indoors is great too with all the nice paintings and such but more crowded). Portions are big, but the prices are pretty high as well. Still, I’d recommend.

Nicky’s Thai Kitchen in the Northside is top notch Thai food. They have many authentic dishes like pad see ew and curries. I got the pineapple curry with beef which was full of sweet and spicy flavor. The service is great and the place is cozy being in an old row house.

Restaurant with the best ambience in Pittsburgh. Outside seating is even more beautiful. Food is great. I liked their mango sticky rice.

Very solid Thai food with very generous portions and an amazing ambiance in the North shore. The pad thai could easily feed two people. The tom kha soup is exquisite. The backyard lounge area is beautiful when the weather is nice. The pumpkin curry is also very solid as is the chicken black. For the pad Thai personally I would ask them to add a little bit more sauce as I like saucy and Rich noodles. I’ve had a couple of other appetizers and dishes on the menu and they all are pretty solid. They also have a location in downtown and another one in the North hills. If you dine in gratuity is included in your bill.

We’ve diner here several times and have consistency received excellent food. The service is fast and friendly. To those complaining about the service fee- there is a sign upon entering at the cash register, and the waitress also mentioned this when she delivered the bill. This has been the case for the last several years (at least.)

Solid Thai food and very generous portions that can easily be shared. Salads are spicier than entrees. The food is fresh and did not take long to come out. We both liked what we ordered. My mouth was burning, but it gave me life. Wasn’t expecting I but wasn’t mad.
The location is cute, but as soon as you enter it smells terrible like an old cat. Or dirty cats. Which is obviously off putting when you’re coming to eat. Hopefully that can be removed.

I used to come weekly for lunch.

Service has always been the bare minimum. The servers never checks on us or ask if we want more drinks. But whatever, the food is great and we get in and out quick.

One day, I realized the first receipt I got didn’t match the second one (after the server brought it back with my card). The amount on the first receipt did not include gratuity in the total, just $43 even – which is why I even noticed. THEN the server brought over the second receipt with the new amount and a tip line… So how many times was I tipping over 40% for the server to come to our table a total of 3 times?

I haven’t gone back since.

Ate here the final day of our trip! Very cool indoor lighting and I think they have a little outdoor patio. The samosas appetizer was a must get, very flavorful and doesn’t just taste like a fried food. My husband ordered the sweet and sour, his friend ordered a rice dish level 5 heat and I ordered mango curry level 2 heat. They take the heat order seriously here! I’ve ordered level 5s in other establishments that are hotter than this level 2 so I’m very impressed that they won’t shy away from serving the spice. The dish presentation was fabulous, and gave plenty of portion for the price. I usually order pineapple curry but have never had mango curry before so had to try it. I was surprised the mango was not served in chunks or blended into the sauce, it was hard and cut into thin strips like a vegetable. I’ll have to find another mango curry to compare, but the curry taste was familiar!

When we first entered the restaurant, it’s like a house.
The party in front of us entered, and we followed behind.
I was the last to enter when the hostess yelled, “Shut the door.” Okay, she could have asked nicely.

We were seated close to the kitchen/entrance. The server gave us water and the menu.
2 more tables of guests were seated. We waited to place our order when we realized the other 2 tables’ orders were taken prior to ours.
We proceeded to call the hostess, who, in turn, took our orders.
Our appetizer was the spring roll. The outside shell triple the thickness than any other Thai restaurant we’ve visited before. It’s absolutely disgusting. We just ate the inside.
The rest of our dinner was quite good.

They already added 20% tip to your bill. That’s why they don’t have to use customer service skills, because this place has none.

For sure, not returning and letting those who read reviews avoid this place.

I’ve been wanting to eat at Nicky’s for quite a while, and we were lucky to come across it on the way to a different restaurant!
Delicious!!
We had crispy egg rolls, delicate and just the right amount of filing. Thai iced coffee, and mango juice, mmm, hit the spot. Green curry, with chicken-3 spice, and it was pretty spicy, but perfect. Shrimp red chili, 2 spice, great flavor and a little spicy…one of the 3 dishes recommended by waitress, and so happy I ordered it. Ginger beef, very tasty, lots of ginger and garlic, and beef was tender. All meals came with steamed rice, and a crab Rangoon on top of rice…I WILL order a side of Rangoon next time!! By far the best I ever had!
All of our food was delicious, service was pleasant and tentative, and atmosphere was quaint. (Could have been a little cooler inside, but would not keep me from going back)
Can’t wait to go back!
