There was only 1 hostess and the wait staff also seemed understaffed.
The bread that was brought out tasted like it was premade frozen bread. It had a funny after taste.
The onion soup was more or less lukewarm and the cheese on top had zero caramelization. The mussels were very bland. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail looked like they were previously frozen pre-cooked shrimp that you’d defrost and serve at home. Waitress never came to check on us after our appetizers arrived.
I asked for my New York strip steak to be cooked medium rare, but it came out more like medium and even to medium well in some parts. I’m not sure if the vegetable garnish on the plate was meant to be eaten or if it was only for decoration. The veggies were mostly undercooked. The prime rib was also disappointing. It was very bland. I’ve been to many steakhouses and restaurants before and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a baked potato that hadn’t been split and at least had butter.
The service was rather slow also. Pro tip: if you order chocolate and vanilla ice cream based on the menu description, make sure you specify you also want hot fudge (which incidentally isn’t hot) and whipped cream. I ordered chocolate and vanilla ice cream thinking it would come out as the menu described, but I literally only got 1 scoop of each and nothing else. Apparently you need to tell the waitress exactly what you want or maybe that you want an “ice cream sundae” even though that’s not what’s listed on the menu.
The last 2 Mother’s Days we went to Ruth Chris, but I complained because it’s so expensive. I thought Nick’s would be a better bargain, but the total amount wasn’t that much less yet the food and service was very sub par.
I went a bit fancy with the bone in strip plus lobster tail and added fries to that along with a mojito. The food came quickly, nice and hot. The lobster tail was excellent, perfectly cooked but not overcooked, a bit more seasoned than I prefer but not in a bad way. The steak however was disappointing. Cooked properly to medium as requested, but chewy with most bites having gristle that you couldn’t chew and had to either swallow or spit out. Yech. Fries were hot, but (IMHO) not fully cooked inside…still having that raw potato taste and texture. Hardly touched them. The dessert (brownie and ice cream) was tasty and the drinks had a good kick.
For the price, considering I picked their most expensive steak, I expected better cuts of meat and the kitchen to be able to cook something basic like French fries properly. Even on a slow Tuesday night…
5 stars to the staff, 3 overall for the place.
