Nick’s Bar & Grill used to be one of my absolute favorite places to go for dinner. Great service, steaks always cooked right etc.
NOT ANYMORE. Went at 5ish tonight. Got greeted and seated right away. From there it was all downhill
Ordered Onion Rings for an appetizer. Undercooked and very greasy. Ok. No big deal.
I ordered the Ribeye medium rare, my wife ordered the salmon. Both ordered mashed potatoes and vegetables.
Meal comes out. I add a pat of butter to my potatoes and it doesn’t melt (butter wasn’t hard either) potatoes were barely warm. My steak looked like a steak from Bonanza and was easily medium well. Waitress was MIA from before I’d cut my steak until midway through meal. By then it’s too late.
My wife’s Salmon came out hot but really bland.
And then the final insult. Went to use our gift card (they don’t expire unless clearly stated).
“Oh, that’s one of the old cards, we changed systems and can’t verify”. There’s $75.00 on the card.
Oh good, so now Nick’s got paid for a crappy meal twice?!
I didn’t even finish my steak. It was that bad.
Sad to see one of the longtime better restaurants go completely in the tank. — very disappointed with Nick’s Bar & Grill, Clive.

I had the BEST prime rib I have ever had here! And I’ve had a lot of prime rib from different places. The staff was excellent! Three different staff offered to help us. I wish I knew our waiters name, but he was great! It was Valentine’s Day and they were busy, yet nobody acted too busy to help. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!!

My sister and I went out on New Year’s Eve and had dinner. Service was great! We both ordered new york strip and shrimp. The overall cost of $35 for each dinner was steep since the steak was tuff. The meat was beautifully cooked and looked nice however taste/texture left a lot to be desired. Honestly, the old Ponderosa/Bonaza restaurant has a better steak.

This review is long overdue but for my favorite spot to enjoy lunch with clients or friends, it has to be Nicks. It isn’t just the food or timeliness that has earned this review, it’s the service that puts it over the top.

We just had dinner at Nick’s tonight, oh my what a disaster. The waitress was probably drunk. She took our granddaughter’s root beer order. She had to ask us 3 times what we wanted to drink, she said they ran out of paper so the order didn’t go through. She took our food order, then she came back later and said the internet went down so our orders didn’t go in. Again she had to take our orders. She had to come back a third time to confirm what we wanted. Our food came, our granddaughter ordered Garlic pasta, penne pasta with chicken, What she got was garlic linguine without the chicken. My husband ordered a tenderloin with mashed potatoes. It came out cold and mashed potatoes were also cold and hard. Our daughter ordered soup and salad, it didn’t come. Again she had to ask her what she wanted. She brought it out without the salad dressing. She asked her 3 times before it came. She also ordered a second drink that never showed up!!

This restaurant is a nice place to go with a small group and hang out. There is a full bar and menu. Our table got an assortment of dishes ranging from pasta to salmon. The food was fresh and delicious. The wait staff was very friendly and kept our drinks filled and brought out the order while the food was still hot.

Incredible! My first experience was a pickup for my boss who also bought us lunch as well. The Alfredo paired with chicken was divine! Thick, creamy sauce paired with a perfectly grilled and garlicy chicken breast really enhanced my Friday! Well done!

Mussels were fabulous. FAAAABULOUS. Drank the juice til I was drowning in garlic, wine butter and it dripped down my chin. I have zero regrets.
Blackened shrimp Cobb salad was very good. Their creamy parm is better than their ranch. Plenty of toppings, which is what a good salad should have. I can eat a head of lettuce for $0.79 at home if that’s all I want…the toppings are where it’s at.
But ohhhhhh hello rare prime rib! This 12oz prime rib was fanTASTIC! So juicy and the vegetable sides were perfect, asparagus was not overcooked like so many places serve. Cali veg blend could use a little more love but it’s a basic side dish and the asparagus made up for it ❤️ not to mention the prime rib

Overall, this place was good but overpriced.
I got the steak de burgo, and my wife got linguini with salmon.
I will say the steak was cooked exactly how I like it (medium rare), and I do really like that the sauce was a butter sauce, as I love de burgo sauce, but not when it’s cream-based. However, the sauce tasted almost entirely of garlic, and while I love garlic, de burgo sauce should be a bit more complex than that. Also, they didn’t put quite enough sauce on the steak. The rice I got with it was good, but almost seemed like pre-made rice pilaf they just cooked from a box.
My wife really liked the salmon, but said they over sauced the noodles, and they were actually a bit soggy. While the flavor was good, this messed up their texture.
The bread rolls they gave us were good, although I think the waitress forgot to ask about them at the start, as we got them at the end of the meal.
The reason i gave them 3 stars instead of 4 is that while the food was mostly good, for the prices they charged I would have expected the issues we encountered not to be present.

Really good place. Great selection. My draft beer was great and so was my Patty Melt. Not sure if I’ll be in the area again, but I’ll come back if I am!
