Contemporary Japanese dining experience with a Peruvian twist, Nichi, was born in Manchester and opened its flagship restaurant in Trafford Centre in late 2024.

DO NOT GET THE STEAK. Its not worth it. Asked for medium well and got well done. Steak itself felt like the frozen ones, bitter, dry and so hard to chew. The wagyu rice set and shrimp was good.
Staff were friendly but service was a bit slow.

The restaurant accommodated allergies and offered a quiet atmosphere, but the service was consistently poor. Staff frequently ignored attempts to get their attention and appeared disorganised.
Our waitress was unable to answer basic questions about the menu. Fortunately, the manager stepped in, explaining that many staff were new. She clarified our menu queries, confirmed the bulgogi spice level could be reduced to mild-medium, and carefully checked my choices against the allergen menu.
The Violet Grove mocktail was extremely watery, with very little flavour, and did not match its menu description or advertised colour. When we raised this, the waitress disputed our concerns, insisting that the taste was intentional because of the ice. The manager intervened, agreed that the drink was incorrect, and offered either a replacement or to remove it from the bill. We declined another drink.
One main course arrived containing sesame, despite prior allergy discussions, which raised serious concerns. The dish was sent back. Unsurprisingly, our waitress was nowhere to be seen, and we had to ask another member of staff to top up our water.
The lamb ribs were pleasant but overly fatty. The wagyu noodle soup was tasty and is recommended. My wife enjoyed the wagyu with umami rice, but the bulgogi remained too spicy, despite earlier assurances.
Overall, the evening was frustrating and disorganised, with poor service mitigated only by the manager’s effective intervention. Our waitress lacked basic menu knowledge and failed to communicate with the kitchen. In contrast, the manager was professional and attentive, repeatedly stepping in to explain dishes, correct mistakes, and resolve issues.
We declined the discretionary service charge due to the repeated service failures. When I asked for the receipt, our waitress dropped it in the middle of the table and glared at me as she walked away.

I enjoyed the sushi, and the wagyu noodle soup had well balanced flavours.
The interior was nice and added to the overall experience. However, the female waiting staff seemed inattentive, as I noticed several people trying to get their attention. One male staff member appeared to be doing most of the legwork.

All the food was delicious and staff were happy to explain menu items and check in that you were happy with your meal. Our server was Yuto who was super friendly and attentive without making you feel rushed. Prices were reasonable considering the quality of the food!

I wanted to like this place, but overall it was substandard I’m afraid. The staff/service is spot on but the food was the real let down. Another over hyped TikTok place? Maybe. ♂️
We got the Kimchi steak & chips. Food was just super cold. The place wasn’t busy at all. Returned food to be heated so wasn’t too bad. Chips way too salty for me. The dish overall was just nice to look at.
Waiters are super lovely, helpful. Please put some heating on at least for them if not your customers! I left really cold! Brrrrrrr!
I may visit the place again in future, but no rush! I hope it improves soon! Best of luck!

My sister’s and myself chose to eat here today. It took a few minutes for someone to greet us, which was a lovely woman. Once seated she told us our server would be Charlie. Shortly after that he introduced himself and explained the menu, our first time eating there.
Excellent service, food delicious and beautifully presented. Charlie was fantastic with explaining the dishes to us, checking allergies.
Would highly recommend, definitely return again.

Came in today with my wife for a double celebration as it was our anniversary and her birthday. Was pleasantly greeted by Stella who with a warm smile, kindly sat us in the most comfortable part of the restaurant. She explained the options on the menu and also recommended some of her favourites, in such a professional and knowledgeable manner. We were surprised and taken back by her amazing personality and how she carried herself with such confidence. She is definitely an asset to your restaurant and I highly request for her to be granted a higher position because of her excellence in customer services and professionalism she is definitely a people’s person, and I’m sure anyone trained under her would mirror her excellence. Her recommendations were well received and the quality and overall ambience of the food and atmosphere had gone above and beyond expectations. Stella surprised us with a mochi desert trio to end the meal. We would highly recommend this place especially as it’s now our top spot eatery in the Trafford centre. I would also like to say a huge thanks to the manager who had also greeted us and explained how to correctly cook the wagyu beef, high attention to detail which made us feel like VIP’s.
Personally note to Stella, apologies for diverting your attention with the 101 questions making you drop some plates, I will take the blame on this one, and finally good luck in your future endeavours.

We had a lovely birthday dinner at Nichi. The black cod, sushi rolls and lamb were all delicious and very fresh. The service was friendly and attentive, especially from Kian and Pierre. They even served us a complimentary birthday dessert platter for all 5 of us to celebrate the 3 birthday people. Really enjoyable dinner and would recommend.
