I wish I would have taken a picture of our food. It was HORRIBLE!! My sister went by and picked up dinner for myself, mom and her for my Birthday yesterday. It was aweful!! We threw most of it away. The fish was so oil soaked we ended up taking the batter off and trying to just eat the little fish that was left. The soup was odd. We got the smoked salmon and the clam chowder. I think it was the same base mix for both and they just added a little smoked salmon, and there were no clams in the clam chowder. I think they just added clam juice to the base.
So $51 later, it was a awful birthday lunch. I would never recommend this place. I wish we could get my mom’s money back.
TOTALLY NOT WORTH THE MONEY

Sticky floors, nowhere to sit, limited drink options (almost no sugar free options) no sugar substitutes, soft drink dispenser empty, boo. And Pepsi products – yuck! Really underwhelming atmosphere for what would otherwise be a pleasant meal. Had to eat in the car because people were jumping the line and grabbing tables before ordering. Really consider what you’re after when ordering here. You’ll do well to consider this a take-out only option.

Ate fresh fish and chips on the patio, and great way to spend a summer afternoon. Have never had a bad meal here.

The food is excellent and the staff was friendly and helpful. We had the halibut, scallops and cod. They were all delicious. It was a longer wait for food since they cook to order but not bad. We sat outside which had a nice atmosphere for being a parking lot. Will definitely be back.

Newman’s Grotto is one of two locations they have in Eugene. This location just serves food, while the other sells fresh fish. Food is overall pretty good. Service is always fast and staff is curious. The Coconut Shrimp is my favorite. They have grilled and fried fish options, French fries and Clam Chowder. They have soda and beer options as well. No vegetarian options.

Parking lot is shared with a few other businesses with no on street parking.

I’ve been to the other Newman’s for fish and chips and other great seafood products scores and scores of times. This one is exactly as delicious! Try the salmon, have the halibut, savor the scallops. If you are lucky, they will have halibut cheeks.

The best fish and chips on the planet—Newman’s is a local treasure!

I’m a huge fish and chips fan, and I can confidently say there’s no better place in the world to get them than at Newman’s Grotto. Their halibut fish and chips are absolutely top-tier—crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. They also offer salmon and cod if you want to mix it up, but for fellow fish and chips lovers: go with the halibut. You won’t regret it.

Newman’s has a diverse menu with more than just fish and chips, including daily specials that keep things fresh and fun. And let’s talk about their tartar sauce—it’s so good, you’ll want to buy a container to take home (and yes, you actually can!).

The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and the customer service is consistently outstanding. The team is kind, hardworking, and always makes you feel at home. I usually dine in, but I’ve noticed a constant flow of takeout orders being picked up while I’m there—which tells me their takeout game is strong, too.

If you’re looking for a fresh, flavorful, and friendly spot for lunch or dinner, Newman’s Grotto is it. A must-visit in Springfield!

My absolute favorite place for fish and chips. The panko breading is perfect and crisp. However, if you are going for a healthier option, the halibut salad is delicious. The only gripe is the portions are SMALL. It’s almost $15 for the salad and two of the smallest pieces of halibut you can imagine. I understand fish is expensive but I finished my meal and was still starving. (I’m a small woman. Lol) They should at least load up on the greens.

This is our preferred date night spot! Newman’s is always consistently fantastic. My Husband always gets the fish and chips, I always try to order something new.

The fish was good. Clam chowder was running, it had more potatoes, had no favor. I’m from California and that the clam chowder would be excellent. Disappointed. The guy at the register was not friendly at all. Why do companies continue to hire people that don’t care about customer service. He needs to be fired.
