Stopped in during a super heavy rainstorm for lunch. The staff was super nice. Service was quick. Bakery counter looked great. The hamburger was good but the 2 sandwiches from my group were not (one chicken salad and the other was pimento cheese). The chicken salad was too wet and the pimento cheese was thick and firm. Bread was fresh, but dry.

Never had a chicken salad with mustard pickles tomato.. there is cut up pickles and around pickles, long strip of raw onion. Thin chicken salad. it was actually not that bad. I would have liked more meat. I did not like thick wheat bread. I told one of them with no lettuce on one of them and still put it on it. It sounded like she didn’t speak English well.

We visited Newman’s Bakery after our tour of Newman’s Castle, and it was the perfect way to round out the experience. The food was absolutely delicious!
We had a jalapeño cheese sausage kolache and a cream cheese kolache (or danish, depending on what you call it)—both were fresh and packed with flavor. We also grabbed some castle cookies to take home, which were a fun and tasty souvenir.
The staff was polite, and service was quick. We did show up around 1pm so a lot of things were already sold out. The inside of the building feels a bit worn in, especially the floors, but that just adds to the charm of a long-standing local bakery that’s been serving the community for years.
Definitely worth a stop if you’re in Bellville—especially if you’re coming from the castle!

Second time in this month. Service is really wanting. Lots of people but everyone is on their phone, eating behind the counter or chatting. One of the guys couldn’t stop scratching his head and then went on to take pastry order from another guest who ended up walking out. . $19 for two kolaches, two cinnamon twists and cup of coffee. Coffee was good, the rest was meh annd one of the twists was undercooked, certainly not worth the premium price.

Came here for the first time with the kids. Nothing special about this bakery, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad or anything. They sell a bunch of donuts, pastries, and cookies. The line can get long and it can be an inconvenience for those being helped next because they don’t have a large menu sign of what they’re selling. For example, because I’ve never been here before, my kids and I wanted to ordered some breakfast, but the only visible menu were on their counter far from me so when the staff came up to me to get my order, I had no clue so she left. The menu only had breakfast items and not any of the bakery stuff so by the time I saw what they had, I felt the pressure on hurrying up and select random things. It just wasn’t organized well. I think they need a large sign that goes to the front doors where the line can reach so by the time the back gets to the front, they’ll know. On top of that, the information about the Newmans Castle wasn’t visible until you got to the front, but even that, you still have to inquire about the admissions otherwise, the staff won’t say anything. We ordered 3 admissions ticket for $20 which includes a free ham or turkey sandwich in a paper bag with a bag of Ruffles chips that you receive when you arrive to the Newmans Castle. They have to do a better job of making that information visible in the shop. If we had known, we would’ve bought just bakery goods instead of breakfast.
Anyways, we ordered the Roast Beef Sandwich, BLT Sandwich, and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Each came with Ruffles chips and a drink. We also ordered the soup of the day (Beef Potato Barley), but when it didn’t arrive to our table, I had to ask one of the staff members who then informed me that I had to get it myself. It was located by the front doors and it was all you can eat soup. We retrieved our free sacks at the castle. Overall, sandwiches were delicious, but nothing spectacular about them.
For the baked goods, we also ordered an Apple Fritter, Cinnamon cake donut, chocolate cake donut, jelly donut, and blueberry yeast donut. Nothing special about these donuts that you can’t get from HEB or Krogers.
Overall, decent priced for mediocre food. We drove a little over an hour to check this place out and it wasn’t worth it. Now that I’ve crossed this off my bucket list for things to do in Texas, we probably won’t be coming back unless we’re in the area again.

My first and last time to try this place. What a HUGE disappointment. I do not recommend the breakfast tacos. I ordered an egg, bacon & cheese taco and an egg, chorizo and cheese taco. I asked for shredded cheese on my tacos and they put a piece of cheap tasting sliced cheddar cheese. It tasted disgusting which ruined my tacos. They were mainly egg and what meat I could pick out, was ruined with the nasty cheese flavor. The tortillas tasted as if they were heated in the microwave because they had that rubber texture. The atmosphere was a little mixed. There were some kids running around and laying on the furniture. They were most likely an employees children which I find very unprofessional in a public eatery. I have heard mixed opinions about this place. Some good, some bad. My experience was very bad. I will not return to Newman’s Bakery.

Pretty nice bakery. It is a little crowded with tables and slightly unorganized but it’s cute. We got some pies and tickets to go to the castle. Some people cut in line because it is one line for the bakery as well as the tickets. The staff were friendly but the pecan pie was not fresh. The lemon was excellent. Nice little stop that connects you with the castle
