So I bet this place was spectacular in its heydey. This is an old school deli that is going the way of the dinosaur like many of the great delis of the past. When I pulled up I thought they were closed. There were only two cars in the gigantic parking lot and they were around back. I was meeting friends and I was early. I walked to door and they were open. You order at the counter and they will allow you to eat your order in dining room but there is no table service.

I went with THE SUBMARINE. The menu said A MEAL IN ITSELF. And they were right! This thing is hefty and dense. It’s a couple types of bologna with salami and I opted for the slaw and hot peppers. This is one fine sub! I also got some pastrami to go and they serve Dr Browns and Stewart Sodas. My dining partners got Devils Delight, soup, knockwurst (they were out of liverwurst) and German potato salad which is available hot or cold. They both liked all their food.

I got a pound of sliced pastrami for the home front. It was top notch.

Came to New York Deli because i was in the mood for a Rueben Sandwich. Not a lot of cars in the parking lot so we were skeptical. You walk in and its a full service deli. You order at the counter and they call your name when your order is ready. We were eating in so we grabbed a table, for lunch there are no waitresses, no big deal. Now about the food, it was awesome and the portion sizes were impressive. As we were waiting and eating we got a pretty good idea on how this place survives, it was constant traffic for pick-up orders and the phones were ringing constantly.

Great classic deli. Out sandwich was massive, hit and fresh. We also had the shrimp salad, traditional potato salad, a pickled green tomato and bag of Toms’s chips.great price. Not currently allowing in-house dining but no biggie for us.

I stopped at The New Yorker Deli on Williamson Road for the first time in at least 4 years for take out. I was surprised to see they were only serving take out on this evening, so don’t know if that is now standard, temporary or an unusual exception at this time. Even though it was takeout only, there was a steady stream of people through the door for pick up or to place an order. My order of 1 Submarine was taken quickly, and I waited in the seating area about 7-8 minutes. I noted a sign stating they would no longer take orders to “burn” the subs, as it’s absolutely delicious that way. I inquired and the friendly associate reported that everyone has their own idea of how much “burnt” is, and they could never make every one happy in trying this. I was also surprised that they now accept credit cards, so gone are the days of ensuring you had enough cash in hand…although I did notice that most patrons paid by cash! Just as I remember, the sub was absolutely delicious! The creamy and crunchy cole slaw juxtaposed against the salty salami and bologna with totally toasted sharp cheese is heaven on a bun. I asked for no hot peppers, and the order was accurate. The mouth puckering dill pickle was still there, wrapped up with the sub. The onions were a little strong, so I removed some bigger pieces and just got onion essence, which was perfect. The sub was as delicious and messy as I remember and I’m glad this deli is still around!

Got another delicious sub with slaw today. Still take out only. Staff were putting out fresh cheese cake that was 3 inches high, and I could not resist! So tasty! Added some new pictures.

As a Roanoke native, The New Yorker Deli has a special place in my heart. Their sub sandwich with slaw & hot peppers is what my family has ordered for decades- and it’s reliably, delicious. The quality and taste never change – it’s consistently amazing! Something we look forward to every time we visit home.

Place is nice. Not expensive. I had a submarine sub, big delicious sub. My wife had roast beef which it wasn’t that good to be honest. This is the only reason why I didn’t give this place 5 stars. Waitress was really friendly and helpful.

So disappointed, I’ve been eating these subs since 1974. The last two times I ordered one of their famous subs, there was hardly any meat or slaw on the sub. I couldn’t believe it ! When i took it out of the brown bag and foil, I knew right away something was wrong. The sub was lighter than a Subway Sub. Why would you mess with the sub that made you famous?

Were do I start. I had the turkey sub add slaw. The sub was well under 10 bucks and bigger than my forearm. It came warm with melty provolone and a toasted bun. I could barely finish half. It also came with a Delish dill pickle – topping off the perfect ny deli style. My dad and I also shared a piece of NY cheesecake which was also huge and so so good.
If you want delicious, straight forward food with friendly servers then definitely go here – often. You and your wallet won’t regret it!.you can no longer dine in this restaurant so I changed my rating use to be my favorite place to get a sub
