Stopped in for lunch while traveling back home to Virginia. It was strange vibe as the place was pretty much empty except for a couple of customers. There was nothing on the walls, you couldn’t even smell food. I asked the young man working if they just opened yesterday, but he said they’ve been open for about 3 months. Place needs something. But the service was good. He took time to answer my questions about some menu items.
We both ordered the brisket plate with 2 sides. We were told they didn’t have greens, we both ordered cabbage and I got fries and my partner got mac and cheese.
The brisket was dry, but the sauce that we asked for on the side provided a nice kick. The fries just frozen crinkle fries, that could have used a bit more time in the fryer. Though the were hot on the outside, the inside was barely warm. Mac and cheese and cabbage were ok, nothing special.

Pretty good food overall. I really enjoyed the ribs, chicken and cabbage. I also like the fact they make their own bbq sauce. The customer service was great but the atmosphere is lacking.

Florida girl here, so I am not a huge fan if the vinegar based BBQ. This place has The Southern BBQ I am used to and let me just say it was all amazing!!!. I got ribs and brisket with cabbage, yams and a side if baked beans so I could try a little of everything!! Did not disappoint. Thier homemade sauce is also very good. Now I just need me a little something sweet! We will definitely be back! My husband picked mine up and said we needed to go eat there because the inside is awesome as well!

Honestly a bit surprised by this place. Not advertised much and the parking lot in front was absolutely dead when I went. Me, my wife, and a single server were the only ones there at like 6pm on a Friday.

Service was polite, quick, and helpful. The dining and bar areas were quite clean (and I’m a health inspector so I look for things); it was dead while I was there but it looks like it could be busy on certain days/nights and has a large karaoke setup.

Food itself was good/solid but not mind-blowing. The steamed cabbage was legit the best thing I had there–no disrespect because I love steamed cabbage. Mac and cheese was good.

The brisket had a good flavor but wasn’t very tender. The ribs were good and had a good texture. My wife got chicken that she said was great. The only real downside is that if you get sauce on the side (or no sauce) then the meat was underseasoned. They seem to rely on the sauce to make sure there is enough salt. Dipped in sauce? Fantastic. Without sauce? A bit bland.

Knowing this for the future I wouldn’t turn down a chance to come here.

I had the rib and brisket combo with cabbage and yams as my sides. Simply Delicious! The both the brisket and ribs were tender. The rib sauce (BBQ sauce) is tangy with a slight peppery kick. The BBQ sauce definitely stands out from the rest. I’m glad they decided to be stationed in Wilson, NC. They also have a food truck. The atmosphere is still giving new vibes. I like the clean look

All I can say is Wow… My boss ordered me and my department lunch and we all can’t stop talking about it. The sauce is second to none, unbelievable flavor, little sweet, little hot. The brisket falls apart on your fork, the pulled pork is perfectly cooked. On top of that, the two working were very nice and helpful. The store was very clean and well kept. I don’t have a single complaint, and that food definitely goes on my top meals of my life. Absolutely incredible BBQ.

I visited the location listed for New South BBQ, but it seems like the place no longer exists. We didn’t see any signs or anything indicating that New South BBQ was there. It was a bit confusing — hopefully they’ve just relocated, but as of now, it doesn’t seem to be open.
