Fantastic, friendly service and a great ambience. Inside was cozy and rustic, however outside also looked like it had a nice vibe.

The meals were delicious and great portion size. Highly recommend the Jambalaya, Bananas Foster Cheesecake and New Orleans Bread Pudding. SO tasty!

Highly recommend coming here if you are after quality, traditional Creole meals.

Can’t wait to return on my next trip to NOLA.

The place had a nice vibe and our server was awesome! It was not busy at all on a Friday night. We had the boiled shrimp plate with one piece of corn and a couple of tiny potatoes. It was $34. The shrimp were good sized and tasted fresh. We also ordered the french bread, we which was an extra $2. It was really good but small. We also ordered the gumbo Yaya (chicken and sausage gumbo). I was raised further south than NOLA with a Cajun grandma. The roux was burned….very easy to do. I have thrown away many trying to get it right. That could have just been accidental but burnt flour and oil doesn’t have the best flavor. My husband ate some of it. I tried twice and it left that awful taste in my mouth. As I said, it may normally be awesome. It just wasn’t that night. Also, the pre packaged cocktail sauce was a turn off. It takes 3 minutes to make it homemade. My friends had the taste of NOLA and they said it was really good. I didn’t try it so no comment there. They had a large variety of craft beers and few domestic. Be aware if you are a beer drinker. They have a good drink menu. I have had better in NOLA but also have had much worse. Eat, drink and be awesome!! Oh, also psa. Hushpuppies are not homemade.

While in New Orleans over Valentine’s Day, we tried New Orleans Creole Cookery, as it was close to our hotel in the French quarter, had pretty good reviews, and was an easy walk through the crazy crowds. Much larger than it looks from the outside, with a large courtyard, the restaurant specializes in the sort of cuisine you’d expect from their name. I had the Redfish Ponchartrain, which was a grilled fish topped with seafood and a hollandaise sauce, (served with a generous side of varietal potatoes) and a wedge salad with added crab meat as a starter. My GF ordered the blackened redfish, which came with a massive side of potatoes, and got a standard side salad as a starter.

Having had redfish all over New Orleans, I was expecting an excellent preparation that was flavorful and moist, but while I think the flavors were generally OK, both of our fishes were a bit overcooked, and thus on the dry side. Not enough to want to send it back, but enough so that it wasn’t the sort of quality we were expecting for the prices. The potatoes were of a wide variety, but were perhaps not the best accompaniment for the fish as far as complementary flavor. Not bad, but just average. Finally, while the menu clearly showed the add-on cost of crab for the wedge would be $15, it amounted to just about a tablespoon of crab, and was just not a good value. Come on now – it’s the Big Easy and you can give a little more crab for $15 on top of the price of the wedge!

Our server Ethan was excellent and helpful. He really knew his stuff. The kitchen was not his friend though, because we were not even done with our salads when the mains came out, leaving us no place for the unfinished salads, so we had to scrape [the salad] onto our bread plates. A kitchen and server really need to work together on timing so guests don’t feel rushed, and end up with hot food sitting around getting cold because the people are still eating their salads.

One last thing as an observation. Our table was near the front of the restaurant (on Toulouse) and they have a wide open corridor entry. We were seated near an open window. Kinda romantic we thought. Sadly, guests, restaurant staffers and passersby kept stopping adjacent to or even in front of the window and restaurant entry to smoke, including lots of people firing up joints. The stench of marijuana wafting in really sucked. The open window is nice (a sax player even came by to serenade a table that was inside, near the window!), but not when it is a gathering spot for people to smoke cigarettes and dope. Turned us off enough that we could not bear to stay for dessert and we ate dinner pretty quickly and left.

Fun restaurant that’s great for big groups and trying out a variety of Nola food favorites! We enjoyed most of the food, although it took a while since they were so busy. Drinks came out pretty quickly though, can’t complain. Our waitress was absolutely hilarious and charming.

The Nola sampler was pretty good but not $32.00 worth

We had an amazing experience at Creole Cookery! The food was absolutely excellent—full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and truly authentic. The atmosphere was just as impressive: warm, lively, and the perfect setting to enjoy a great meal.

Our waitress, Jackie, made the experience even better. She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome from start to finish. Her service was outstanding and added a personal touch that really stood out.

Highly recommend Creole Cookery for anyone looking for incredible food, a great vibe, and top-notch service!

Visiting on Mardi Gras Saturday may not have been the best time to eat here. It was super loud, but hey, it’s a Bosom Buddies Mardi Gras in the Quarter, so whadd’ya expect? While many of the restaurants close to S. Peters Street cater to a lot of tourists, thing is… they’re all pretty good representations of NOLA Creole cuisine. This was one of the more expensive places to eat Creole cuisine, but the service was very friendly and food was served reasonably fast despite a lunchtime rush of patrons who piled in immediately after a private party ended at 1:00.

Loved the atmosphere. Easy to get to from the tourist area and I would rate it as a tourist place. The blackened red fish was a little on the dry side but had good flavor. Shrimp poboy needed a sauce again dry. Gumbo was fine but wouldn’t remember it later. So I would say for convenience it’s nice and easy. Wouldn’t put it on a list to tell others about. Our server was very nice.

Honestly, one of the best restaurants in New Orleans! Where to begin…our waitress Jordan was so attentive and nice, the food…I had the New Orleans Shrimp & Grits, so creamy & delicious. Also had a crab cake for an appetizer, best I’ve ever had! My husband had the Creole pasta, it was a big hit! The bread pudding for dessert was so scrumptious! Definitely a 5-star restaurant for us! Oh and it’s dog friendly, a must for us!

Really great outdoor space. Super fun and festive environment. It was Mardi Gras so we expected it to be busy but the service was incredibly slow. It took 45 minutes just to get a drink order to our table. It took close to 2 hours to get food. The waitress seemed confused and was pouring waters and bussing tables when the bussers should be doing that – this is 30 minutes after we got there and still haven’t ordered any food.

Once we finally got food, the food was thrown on the plates. The pecan crusted fish and the blackened fish was tasty, but way overcooked.

Can’t say we will return, sadly.

If I could give this restaurant negative stars, I would!
We were recommended New Orleans Creole Cookery by our tour guide earlier in the day, but the experience was extremely disappointing.
My grandmother asked our server whether the Shrimp Creole was spicy. Everyone handles spice differently, and she was assured it would be mild. Unfortunately, it was so spicy she could only eat the shrimp before giving up. By the time our waiter returned, I mentioned the issue, and he brought over a manager. We explained the situation, expecting at least a discount or some gesture of goodwill since the dish was barely touched — but nothing was done.
The entire experience cost us around $80 for two people, and once we raised the issue, the waiter’s attitude noticeably changed — he became distant and impolite. On our way out, we brought it up again with the manager, who was dismissive and only offered a free dessert after the fact.
As for my meal, the jambalaya was flavorful but nearly identical in appearance to my grandmother’s dish — just minus the shrimp and plus a few green beans.
Overall, the service, attitude, and lack of accountability ruined what could have been a nice meal. 10/10 would NOT recommend. Save your money and dine somewhere that values its customers.
