A huge hit! For the Texas-inspired food, the location, the decor, the outdoor seating, the service and the owners, Ronnie and Shana Campsey.
We were all full and very happy.
We had an absolutely wonderful time and will make an effort to visit when we are in the area next.
Ronnie tells wonderful stories and is friendly and engaging presence. So honored to have met him and to know about his service to the country.
See below for a photo of young Ronnie in Vietnam and how his adjusting his helmet a day earlier meant an enemy bullet passed clean through, without killing him.
Clean & friendly neighborhood spot and we would be back again! Family friendly, even a diaper changing table. Very Texan Roadhouse I guess? I could see how it is cafe by day with bar and a local bar w food at night….like tonight. The front entrance was not handicap accessible but there might have been other other entrances because I saw walkers, canes, and crutches tonight. The front was a little narrow, steps and you go through 2 doors.
There was one fruit fly or fly at our table and the you have to hold toilet handle for a solid flush. I came in to an unflushed toilet, and when I tried..had to flush twice.
I usually give 4 stars as my usual highest review because I believe every venue has room to improve and I have only had one experience here.
The menu had many various options. There was a Gluten Free Bun and also Veggie burger option too. I had a brisket slider with Swiss cheese. The menu says it is $1 to add cheese but I was charged $2. Ordered the special Pumpkin Marinara Penne alla Vidka w/Spinach which was good but maybe just me but I did not taste much pumpkin. A friends tasted and said everything was kind of bland. One ordered Flounder and the other ordered Mac & Cheese w pulled pork. I threw in an order of Pecan pie but didn’t realize the ice cream wasn’t served with it but I was only able to have one bite, and i ate the ice cream. We all loved the whipped cream! 3 of us…not drinking alcohol. Ginger ale, coffee, water. Everything was itemized clearly on receipt. Our Bill was $108 before tax. If anyone needed to know there is 3% surcharge to use credit card which added almost $4. I believe has become standard practice for restaurants since Covid and it is written on the menu. There is a $3 per plate share charge. $120.84 was our bill… so we spent $145 total which I think is high for what we got but not complaining. We had fun and everyone was kind. Happy Holidays. Thanks for your service!
Like I said..we would be back but I would probably stick with Texas ribs or wings and fries.
Onto breakfast! Ordered one of the specials of the morning :grilled cheese breakfast Sandwich with 2 eggs, bacon, Jack cheese placed between 2 buttery cheesey pieces of grilled toast: it was total comfort food. I asked if they kitchen wouldn’t mind not wrapping my breakfast burrito but just put the contents on a plate and and the Tortilla on the side and they happily obliged. The egg, peppers, onions and chorizo mixture was so flavorful and satisfying. The accompanying potatoes are delicious too! Also shared the grits with super garlicky jumbo shrimp that came with a homemade biscuit and 2 eggs on any way you like. The grits are seasoned perfectly and the heavily garlic infused sautéed shrimp were a perfect accompaniment.
We met both the owners and I totally connected with Cowboy Ron when we spoke about how he and my father were both in the Vietnam War around the same time frame! Lovingly family owned, awesome attentive staff and delicious are a great combo that is going to have us coming back for years to come!
We dined outside as the weather was good. The staff could definitely hold training classes for a few other restaurants – they were the BEST. And the owner was there to give you a piece of history … 47 years open and counting. This is for sure going to be our new weekend breakfast joint
