There were 8 of us for dinner, so there was a wait for them to set up a couple of tables. The dishes that appeared included vegetarian dishes and soup, pig knuckles (this is a dish with peanuts), lamb with onions, beef with shisedo peppers ( ), lamb with onions, “stinky” fish, and more. All of this was very tasty! You will not find beef with broccoli or general’s chicken here–only authentic Chinese foods. This is attested to because for the almost 3 hours we were there, I was the only round-eye in the place. This shows that
very good food is served here!
If you are ever in the Newark, CA area looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, you cannot go wrong with New Huiji off of Mowry Ave.
The Anhui dishes are very good: duck and cabbage stew, braided pork. Spicy wonton was fine but not as good as in other places.
The setup is nice and cute, they served the dishes in nice bowls, and the rice came in a rice cooker. Service is excellent.
We will be back!
We called ahead and were told a reservation was fine. While we were already on the way, they called back saying our seat was taken but promised the wait would be short. When we arrived, we were told we’d be next—only to then be told a friend of the boss would be seated first.
This happened twice, and we were there with our 2-year-old toddler. Completely unfair and disrespectful. If you prioritize personal connections over customers, be honest about it upfront.
We left frustrated and won’t be back.
It is the best Chinese restaurant in Bay Area!
