As a New Bedford local, parking downtown can be tricky, but visiting in the evening meant no meters — just be prepared for a short walk. It’s worth it.

We went on a Tuesday for their dinner-for-two special, which includes two entrées and your choice of a bottle of wine, an appetizer, or dessert. I had the teriyaki salmon, my date had the fish & chips, and both dishes were fresh, hot, and came out quickly. The food really exceeded expectations.

The only letdown was the clam chowder, which tasted like it had been sitting a bit too long and didn’t have the freshness the rest of the meal delivered.

Our server, Sam, was outstanding — attentive, interactive, and genuinely helpful the entire time. I asked to speak with a manager to share some positive feedback about him, but they weren’t able to come out. It wasn’t a major issue, just something that would have added a more personal touch.

Overall, a great meal with excellent service and a cozy downtown atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back.

We returned to New Beige to try their lunch menu. We were able to sit outside and enjoy a sunny fall day. Our waitress was quick to great us and take our orders. I enjoyed the Turkey BLAT and hubby had the fish sandwich. Both were very tasty and we enjoyed thoroughly.
We would highly recommend. Please visit and enjoy for yourself.

I’ll start by saying how excited I was to try New Beige. After seeing it downtown for a year now I figured we’d give it a try. Let me preface this by saying I don’t often write negative reviews but sadly this was probably one of the worst meals my husband and I have ever had. As a couple that travels and tries food from all over, this was one of the biggest disappointments.

Before I get into it I will praise our waitress, she was kind and treated us with a warm smile. She checked in on us when appropriate and made sure we had everything we needed. So thank you kindly for your service. Today we ordered the Clam Chowder, Fried Calamari, fish and chips, and Portuguese Pork Alandjana

Starting with the clam chowder, the flavors were very overwhelming and truly did not match the authentic style or taste of clam chowder. With the overpowering taste of bacon and possibly another meat. Maybe it’s me but usually you want to have a good base to the broth and be able to taste the clams. This was not the case and I can officially say this was the worst clam chowder we ever had.

The Calamari will take us in a more positive direction though. It was light and airy. The crisp breading the sauce to dip them in though didn’t pair well. They were good enough though to eat on their own with the banana peppers.

Now let’s get into the main course.
We ordered the fish and chips. The best way we could describe the fish. The batter was mushy and the fish was not fresh it was like a frozen meal that you just microwaved at a truck stop. The cole slaw was good in my opinion that was on pare. The fries were decent as well. Moving on to our next entree. The Portuguese pork atlanja, was my biggest let down. I am 100 percent Portuguese and have traveled to the mainland while growing up in and around New Bedford my entire life. This was not sitting right. The pork wasn’t chopped up properly but in giant pieces of pork with the potatoes at the bottom that were not crisped but very soggy and a terrible sauce. The clams were cooked well and tasted fine but the topping of micro greens through me off. The bread that was served across it was toasted with an olive oil drizzle with a herb that I can’t quite put my finger on but that was disgusting. If anyone is going to amplify and make pork alantjana more robust don’t ever cook it this way.

This was the most overpriced meal we ever had but the end of it all our lunch tip included was $90.

Was this place worth it absolutely not! This is not a high-end restaurant with a spectacular view. We’ve had amazing meals at places such as The Boat House for lunch with appetizers and entrees that were mind-blowing for the same price. Needless to say, this is not a place to brag about or recommend to others. Personally, this has made it to the top of my list for one of my worst meals ever.

The food in amazingly good! The Brussels sprouts were the best we ever had! The service is friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant. The pain killer cocktail is yummy. The Portuguese steak is very good, however not a traditional style of Portuguese steak with the red peppers and the gravy is different but good. We definitely recommend trying this place!

On the smaller side, but the bar is large and is has a comfortable feel. The Tuesday dinner specials are great and quite affordable. The lasagna bolognese is very meaty and cheesy and is a large portion. The salmon was a little small but good. The cocktail menu is very good as well. I will be back to try more.

My husband and I eat out 2-3 times a week and we’ve been everywhere. New Beige has the best food, the chef Joe is amazing. I got the teriyaki salmon and it was done to perfection. My husband got lasagna Bolognese and he said it’s the best he’s ever had. I also got the strawberry shortcake martini, Absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is Cozy feel a little like Boston. The service is top-notch. I would highly recommend going here.

Every time we come here the food & service is amazing. That being said, this is not a portuguese restaurant (although they do have some dishes with a portuguese influence and modern twist). I’ve seen some reviews where people didnt like the portuguese dishes – the alentejana here is great, but if i want authentic alentejana i ask my dad, or go to a portuguese restaurant. Personally there are very few places that make certain dishes as good as family so i never order those as they will never meet my expectations.

Anyways, definitely recommend pretty much all of the dishes on their menu. Never disappoints (if you have the right expectations)

I arrived at 12:45 where I went to the kind of hidden host station. I was greeted by a really friendly member of staff. She immediately sat me and brought water for my four other companions who had yet to arrive. I was hungry so I ordered an empanada. The “To Go” area had a couple of different kinds. The server recommended the Chicken Mozambique. The other options were a Big Mac or Caciola (Porc). The server put it into a Q oven. It was done in less than 2 minutes. It came out piping hot and I had to let it cool. I give it the empanada maybe a B+. The dough was overworked and dry. This caused the empanada to split even prior to going into the Q. The filling was okay. Now I also tried the Mongolian Beef skewer. It was a solid A. The meat was seasoned great. The meat was tender. My friends arrived. They had wine. I had a Velvet Elvis. Peanut Butter Whiskey, Banana Liquor, Vanilla Ice Cream…Elvis would approve. During the meeting We shared the hummus, eggplant, merquez (lamb sausage) with na’an. It was a solid A. Over all the bill came to 10.00ish for empanada and skewer. $80 for drinks and app. The tip comes on the bottom of the receipt. Lunch menu until 4

Another stop by New Beige for some lunch. Had another Muse IPA on draft. IPA was great. Today, I went with the New Beige burger. Good, but not smash burger good. Previously went with the seared scallops and they were incredible. Previous guest went with a smash burger with bacon and thought it was excellent. I’ve had the double patty smash burger in the past as well and agree. Also had the jalapeño bacon empenada which was very good. Creamy filling with a good crust and not greasy. Metered street parking in the area. Cool little spot. Chef Joe is in the kitchen, so you already know the quality he puts out.

We stopped in here this afternoon for a quick bite to eat and it was amazing 10 out of 10. Our server Shawndi was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu items. She offered us a taste of the new beige clam chowder and it was out of this world. We also started with the hummus plate, which was unbelievable. The soft fresh naan bread was delicious and the hummus and vegetables were so fresh. We split a turkey avocado BLT on Texas toast with homemade sweet potato chips and it was delicious. They had a lot of offerings that looked and smelled wonderful. We just didn’t have enough room in our bellies for anymore. I highly recommend 10 out of 10. The ambience was great. It was decorated for Halloween and had a really cool vibe.
