Neutral Ground’s location downtown is now more of a lounge than a restaurant, which is honestly a huge disappointment. The atmosphere has been modernized and has no N’Awlins/voodoo-type vibe anymore. None of my favorite foods were even on the menu! No more alligator tacos, fried green tomatoes, or beignets. The minimal food selection they did have felt overpriced. It was extremely disappointing. I wouldn’t go back now that it’s changed so much. 2 stars given.

I’d heard rave reviews of the alligator tacos and as the only place in possibly the whole State who serves gator, I knew I had to come to Neutral Ground. I went with a friend who was in from out of town. We both walked in and fell in love with the atmosphere! The whole vibe is very New Orleans. It’s very visually appealing. As for the food AMAZING! The blackened alligator tacos were delish! My favorite dish is a tossup between the andouille sausage flatbread pizza and the fried green tomatoes! The beignets were so good and the dipping sauces only added to the experience. Loved the berry cobbler as well. We truly didn’t have a bad bite of food. Our server was next level amazing. He knew when to be attentive and when to hang back. The service was outstanding. Possibly my new favorite restaurant!

Great staff, delicious food, and such a cute vibe inside! Plus there’s live music! This place is great. We ordered the Cajun pasta, fried green tomatoes, and shrimp tacos. All were great. Highly recommend!

Neutral Ground is fast becoming one of our favorite restaurants.

The menu is fantastic with a wide selection of options. Their Cajun pasta is probably one of our favorites.

They’re bartender knows what he’s doing. Our family does not drink alcohol but we like to find custom non-alcoholic cocktails wherever we go. He came to our table and asked us what some of our favorite flavors were and what kinds of tastes we enjoy. He created a custom cocktail for each member of our family.

The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and we enjoy each visit.

Neutral Ground is bringing the Cajun and Creole flavor to Salt Lake!! I’ve been dying to try them out since I heard they were opening in Rose Park! My Husband and I went in to celebrate our Anniversary, the vibes as soon as you walked in were immaculate. We sat in the Lounge, it was soo beautifully decorated and with ambient lighting you feel totally transported.

Here’s what we ordered

•Fried Green Tomatoes
•Southern Carbonara
•Seafood Gumbo
•Beignets

The Fried Green Tomatoes were DELISH! Loved the sauces they paired with them too! The Southern Carbonara was such fantastic twist on a classic. I ate the whole thing. It was soooo good I had to finish it there. My Husband very much enjoyed the Seafood Gumbo! He commented it was very traditional and spot on. Ohhh the Beignets. Next time I’ll order double, they were so divine and gone way too quickly.

Welcome to the Neighborhood Neutral Ground!
Can’t wait to come back in for some live music next time.

We have eaten at Neutral ground twice and the food has been spot on both times.
Their fried green tomatoes are a throwback to the ones my mom and aunts made growing up. Perfectly crispy and seasoned outside, and the pepper jam is a perfect compliment!
The crawfish patties are a perfect, juicy seasoned bite with an orange peel sauce that I would drink on it own if I could.
Crawfish Mac and cheese is creamy and cheesy with plump bites of crawfish and a crispy top, served hot in a skillet.
They cook their gumbo for 3 days before serving and you can tell with how the flavors meld together and compliment the fluffy rice.
The wagyu steak Oscar was so tender I could cut it with a butter knife (and I did!) Served with Asparagus and crispy potatoes.
The slow burn burger is juicy and spicy with the flavors complementing each other perfectly.
The cajun carbonara even impressed our picky teenager!

Don’t skimp on dessert, beignets with lemon custard or a peach cobbler that literally melts in your mouth.

Yes, the prices might be a little higher than most are used to, but with the cost of inflation and the fact that they are making everything from scratch- no pre packaged sauces here!

The performer was fantastic! Loved his take on several classics. At any given point in the night someone would stop the convo to sing along with a new take on a classic country or rock song.
Drinks were delish and servers knew a good wine pairing with the dish I ordered. We started with a limoncello shot and I didn’t even know I was drinking more than lemonade
The fried tomatoes had a jalapeno jelly that made the flavor and fried texture combos come together just so.
The Cajun Pasta was great, and the spice was optimal as just the right amount.of flavor/spice combo.
The benefits were almost like a puff pastry smothered in powdered sugar (if that could happen) with a strawberry sauce. And the apple blueberry cobbler was a great flavor combo.
The coffee had a great froth, especially for a regular cup of coffee. I wonder if it was NesCafe? But amazingly delicious with cream, like a cappuccino.

When we asked for tobasco to add to our gumbo, the waiter said they didn’t have tobasco but there was some other kind of hot sauce.

The catfish was fishy with no spices or salt and the breading on it was soggy.

The mac’n’cheese was flavorless. (Go to Sauce Boss Southern Kitchen for amazing mac’n’cheese)

We got the alligator nachos as well and they were medicore. The salsa that came with it had no flavor whatsoever.

The beignets were not very good. Instead they were tiny, a little crunchy on the outside and almost hollow on the inside, and it seemed like something you could find in the frozen section at the grocery store. (Go to Sunday’s Best for some really good beignets)

The only saving grace was the red beans and rice appetizer. That actually had some flavor.

Most of all the food was overpriced for what you get. The service was fine but nothing special.

We do not recommend Neutral Ground. Perhaps we should have lowered our expectations. Afterall this is Utah.

All around enjoyable experience.

The atmosphere and decor has a fun NOLA style without being cheap or gimmicky.

The staff were all very warm and helpful.

The menu is thoughtfully limited, but with variety.

The beer and wine selection is good and the cocktail my wife ordered (smokey tomatoe) became an instant favorite for her.

Everything we ordered was very good. We had the crawfish Mac and Caesar salad for appetizers. We ordered the burger and Cajun pasta and beignets for desert. We felt that the portions were good and brought much of our food home.

This is on our list of places to return to.

Amazing food and spectacular service! Everyone at our table loved what we ordered and we had so much fun sharing bites of delicious food. The Cajun pasta had so much flavor, the burger AMAZING, the steak flatbread 10/10, and definitely don’t sleep on the rice and red beans! A place I could recommend to anyone! I will definitely be back

This is a great spot for a date night. A great atmosphere with live music and amazing food. We started with the crawfish cakes and the flavor and texture was perfect. I tried the juju pomme drink and it was citrusy and delicious. We enjoyed the Wagyu Filet Oscar and Mussels Arrabiata for our entrees. The filet was perfectly cooked and the fingerling potatoes had wonderful flavor. The Arrabiata was just the right amount of spicy paired with the andouille sausage. We really enjoyed our first visit here!
