I booked a table at Neptune’s Grotto to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday while she was visiting from the UK, and it turned out to be the most memorable dining experience we’ve had.

From the moment we arrived, every detail was handled with genuine care and professionalism. The space itself immediately stood out, the decor is effortlessly classy, with dim, ambient lighting that creates an intimate and refined atmosphere. It felt special without being pretentious, and perfectly suited the occasion. We were warmly welcomed at the door, and the host acknowledged the birthday straight away, referencing my note on the booking and taking the time to wish my girlfriend a happy birthday. It was a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the evening.

Our server, Will, delivered exceptional service throughout. His attentiveness was seamless and intuitive, our glasses were consistently topped up without ever needing to ask, and he checked in at just the right moments to ensure everything was perfect without ever being intrusive. It was clear that service here is executed with both precision and warmth.

The food itself was outstanding. We ordered the Grandma Slice, Mozzarella and Anchovies, Zucchini, Roasted Potatoes, and the Pumpkin and Ricotta Ravioli, a dish we genuinely haven’t stopped thinking about since. Each plate was beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and demonstrated a clear attention to both quality ingredients and technique.

Neptune’s Grotto has achieved something special in balancing exceptional food with truly refined hospitality, all within a beautifully considered setting. It’s rare to leave a restaurant already planning your return, but this is without question my new favourite spot. For anyone considering a visit, I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

What an absolutely delicious, outstanding, memorable meal!

Honestly can’t remember enjoying my dinner so much. Everything we tried was out of this world.

The stuffed, fried olives were just fantastic. The grandma’s bread, the veal schnitzel and the pasta were all highlights. I’m booking again!

It was a vibey restaurant, and sitting at the bar was actually nicer than I expected.
The zucchini was bright and flavourful, and the liver crostini was delicious, loved the smokiness in the bread.
The agnolotti was the highlight I think – creamy and pillowy, but not heavy.
The veal milanesa will satisfy the meateater, but i think it is not essential and I would prefer to get another pasta as they were delicious!
The flan was a bit breadier than I thought so it was quite filling.
Service was friendly and impeccable, good wine and good beer.

My friends and I came for lunch and enjoyed an amazing meal. There was not a single bad or even mid level dish. Everything felt unique and carefully prepared. The martinis were smooth and the service was attentive. Definitely worth visiting!

Neptune’s Grotto is pure theatre done right. From the moment you walk in, the mood is set—dark, intimate, and effortlessly cool. The food is exceptional across the board: refined Italian flavours, flawless pasta, and standout seafood that feels indulgent without being heavy. Service is polished but warm, and the wine list is seriously impressive. It’s the kind of place that makes a night feel like an occasion. Easily one of Sydney’s best dining experiences. 5/5 ⭐️

We chose Neptune’s Grotto out of curiosity, as it came highly recommended and is very popular on social media.
The restaurant is beautiful, with dim lighting and a great atmosphere that creates a really nice vibe for dinner.
We started with the eggplant parmigiana, which was very good, and the focaccia, which was fine. The tagliatelle al ragù had great flavour, though it was slightly on the salty side.
The veal cotoletta alla Milanese is definitely a standout and well worth trying.
We paired our mains with two different glasses of wine. While the wines themselves were enjoyable, the service around the wine felt minimal, and one of the glasses (a Barolo) arrived too cold. No one came to ask for feedback on the wine.
A bit more attention in this regard would have elevated the experience even more.
Overall, it was a pleasant dinner with good food and a lovely atmosphere. A solid Italian restaurant and definitely worth trying.

All the other staff were also so lovely. The food was incredible the tuna caponata and the agnolotti pasta is a must order and the eggplant parmigiana was also delicious. Ambiance is lovely inside aswell! One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a longgg time.

Came here for my belated birthday dinner and it was fantastic!

We ordered the grandma slice, pumpkin and ricotta agnolotti, veal cotoletta, fioretti, crispy potatoes and a divine chocolate mousse dessert (cannot exactly recall the name). Everything was absolutely delicious and I cannot wait to come back!

I cannt recommend Neptune’s grotto enough. Make sure to book in advance!

A restaurant I’ve seen everywhere and heard nothing but rave reviews about. Neptune’s Grotto had been on my list for a while, and with an upcoming Sydney trip, I knew I had to lock in a booking — major FOMO if I didn’t.

On my last visit to Sydney, I dined at Clam Bar, Neptune’s Grotto’s sister restaurant, and absolutely loved it. While I was tempted to return, this felt like the perfect opportunity to experience something new from the same group — and Neptune’s Grotto truly exceeded expectations.

Located underground beneath Clam Bar, the restaurant immediately transports you into a cave-like, grotto-inspired space. Vaulted ceilings, a long bar running the length of the room, intimate booth seating, and tables softly lit by wine bottle candles create an atmosphere that is both elegant and romantic. From the moment you walk in, it feels like the ultimate date-night destination.

Service was exceptional from start to finish. We were warmly greeted on arrival, promptly seated, and offered water before our orders were taken. Everything arrived impressively quickly without feeling rushed.

For drinks, we ordered the Sbagliato and the Neptune’s Sour, both beautifully balanced and expertly made. Entrées included the Zucchine alla Scapece, Mortadella, and Tuna Caponata — the perfect way to start the meal, each dish packed with flavour and thoughtfully executed.

For mains, we shared the Tagliatelle al Ragù and the Gramigna alla Salsiccia, and honestly, we were blown away. The pasta was rich, deeply flavoured, perfectly portioned for sharing, and beautifully presented.

We left feeling completely satisfied and genuinely impressed. The service throughout was attentive — we never once had to flag someone down. I’m so glad I finally made it here and will absolutely be recommending Neptune’s Grotto to anyone heading to Sydney.

There is bar & booth seating at this cosy establishment. It was a Sunday dinner & they were doing a good trade. This feels like you are in a subterranean bunker with statues! The service was very good. The food was not huge portions for the price, but it was filling. The agnolotti pasta with hazelnuts was tasty with the extra crunch. The eggplant parmigiana was excellent. My dining partners thought their choices were okay. Check your bill as there was an extra item added to ours.
