Homestyle diner restaurant and locals’ hangout housed in an old-fashioned mom-and-pop neighborhood corner store sure to transport you back to a simpler time. Our kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a reasonably-priced menu full of your favorite American comfort foods like pancakes, waffles, omelettes, scrambles, burgers and sandwiches. Our bar has beer and cider on tap, with wine and cans available to enjoy on or off premises. In addition to a wide variety of beverages, our small grocery offers ice cream, snacks and breakfast burritos to go, plus essential sundries. Built in 1895, our historic location just one block off Lakeway Drive in the York neighborhood is convenient to downtown Bellingham and I-5 travelers.

A Bellingham gem – one of the last true neighborhood markets. The feeling of community at Nelson’s is unparalleled, the staff are the best, and ever since the change of ownership, the kitchen has been delivering delicious staples and creative specials with remarkable consistency.

Their food is good and the staff is super friendly, but they are tremendously slow even when not that busy. We had two groups in front of us. The wait was quoted at around 15 min, it took 40. From the time of order it was nearly 50 minutes for our food to come out, including 10 or more minutes where the food was ready and sitting under the heaters waiting for someone to bring it over. Great place but they just need to work on their efficiency and operations.

The soups were amazing! Definitely made me want to come back. The Poutine wasn’t my favorite(something about the gravy didn’t taste right to me) but as a Canadian I applaud this charming diner for aiming to be authentic with its Poutine take.

I do not know when flat bread is classified as a biscuit, but this place has made that decision for me. $18 for something I can only call indistinguishable goo that was to be gravy, which thankfully was only a 1/4 of a cup, I hate to waste food and fried heels of the loaf of bread as a biscuit. Calling it flat bread was a compliment now that I think about it. The sausage was a glob of meat that tasted like a fried canned dog food, I have experienced that taste as a joke. This whole meal was an absolute waste of time and money.**EDIT for response**
I gave the staff a 4 star rating BUT certainly would take that away with Ben’s inability to take CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. Please see the pics of the indistinguishable goo and the heels of bread. Ben you certainly do not have to be concerned with my ever returning to that place that is filled with an inability to be able to accept CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK.

Came for breakfast on a Saturday morning around 9:30, we were greeted immediately and the hostess let us sit where we wanted. Our waitress was really sweet and made sure to check on us often. We got the eggs Benedict and the breakfast style country fried steak. We are from out of town and wanted to have a tasty and hearty meal before driving back to Seattle for the day. Let me tell you that this diner will be the closest thing you’ll ever get to eating great home cooked food while you are traveling. The service was amazing and the conversation was lovely. The market offered regular convenience store items and had cute old-fashion decor. They have booth, table and outdoor seating. Can’t wait to come back!

I searched online for breakfast spots in Bellingham. This cafe was the first on a list that I found online. We drove a little over an hour to check it out and weren’t disappointed. The omelette and country fried steak were all excellent. The sausage gravy in particular was on point. The sourdough toast was really good. Great service too. The atmosphere felt like experiencing Americana from a bygone time.

Food was so good, we got the crispy chicken sandwich and the turkey club. The food was so fresh and hot, the ice cream was also very creamy. The diner is retro and cozy. Favorite dining spot in Bellingham

Omg, I stopped by after searching for veggie burgers locally, and this was incredible! A veggie patty cooked to perfection on a toasted bun, fresh vegetables, a great sauce, fries that are clearly homemade and crispy perfection, and delicious tartar sauce! I highly recommend this place and I will definitely be a regular here

The food there is awesome, better than I expected. Even though it is bit pricey than other regular breakfast place.
Their service is great too.
I ordered 2 Omelette, one with black bean, one with potatoes. Both are sausage, which their sausage is very special than others.
They have small parking lot, street parking usually is not a problem.

My first visit to Nelson’s Market for breakfast was a great start to my day. The market itself and the historic building it calls home is in itself worth the visit. Nostalgic, charming, and they have everything you need. The dining area is just big enough and feels like a small town dining spot. They even have counter seating. Service was friendly and fast, the food was delicious, and we can’t wait to go back. We tried the huevos rancheros and the eggs benedict. I love a good homemade hollendaise sauce. Next time I plan to try the French toast and real maple syrup. On our way out, the owner popped outside to introduce himself. Ben has lived around the corner for years and is the new owner within the last year. His friendliness and eagerness to connect cement the small town market vibe that I loved when I walked in. We look forward to becoming regulars!
