Very cool old diner serving lunch and breakfast. Food prices are very reasonable and for the money the food was good. Ordered corn beef hash and came out crispy and cooked well, which I love! Apple Pie was good, too.

Out of all of the people that were there today only one was working. the girl had glasses and bangs and light brown hair, if yall see here clap for her and give her the praise she needs because she might as well be running the place, and i watched the whole time and majority of the time she was the one cooking and waiting tables. she did everything! Just wanted to give a huge recognition to her because everyone else that was there today are SLACKERS, they sat around and did nothing. personally i would never want to go to a place where it is not a team effort, it’s honestly very sad. hope you guys think about this before going here or even working here.

It’s a tiny cafe in a tiny town. You get personality in a place like this, and fresh cracked eggs, rather than blank stares and commissary food. It’s my favorite hole in the wall.

I was hungry. I asked what was good and they said they had a special of sloppy Joes and from what i gathered they were preparing them readily. My wife ordered a chefs salad. Being there were 5 people ahead of us, i thought it should be quicker. We sat 40 to 45 minutes and after getting water and ick lemonade for my daughter, the attendant never let us know what was going on or anything. We had enough, paid for the lemonade and left. If at home i could cook a sloppy Joe and prepare a chef salad in 15 minutes. I go out to get an experience i can’t get at home. We went home and ate in minutes, but i was very hungry. Overall not recommended. Go home and eat.

Best price for breakfast. My buddy got a whole order of biscuits and gravy. It was huge and he said it tasted like how is grandpa use to make them.

This little diner surprised my granddaughter and I. We were nervous to be the only guests. In my opinion, that’s a bad sign. We were pleasantly surprised. The waitress was very accommodating. My eggs, ham, hash browns were delicious. The grilled chicken sandwich had a generous amount of chicken. The hot cocoa was fun.
Definitely coming back

We always get the typical egg breakfast, French toast breakfast, and biscuits and gravy and all of it is delicious. We LOVE this place! Their current hours are 6a-1p. I wish they’d extend the hours a little and decor could maybe use a little sprucing, but regardless, Nel’s is a wonderful breakfast/lunch diner! The staff is always so kind and accommodating too. We will stay Nel’s fans for sure!

Nice little diner in the heart of Downtown Ossian.
The owner is my old childhood neighbor.
She and the waitress here are very friendly, fast and willing to help serve you, and assist you w/ any questions, comments, concerns, or praises you might have, in regards to your meals.
The foods that are served are pretty good, as well.
I grew up in Ossian, and it was always nice to come here, have a meal w/ my dad, and enjoy that small-town diner experience.
The hours are limited, but it’s worth a try.
Recommend for anyone who lives here, or who is just traveling through on Indiana Hwy 1. 🙂
