The restaurant’s very soul is rooted in the love of tradition and family. Following a childhood spent cooking in her family’s Napoli-based restaurants and an apprenticeship in perfect pizza making, Nella became a pizzaiola – an expert in Neapolitan pizza. Michelin star rated, brick oven pizza and amazing pastas! And you get to watch the pizza masters at work! Love the concept behind the mirror!
Pizza Vesuvio was so unique! We got an actual mount Vesuvius – but in edible form!
The pasta/gnocchi was also 10/10, and not to mention the lava cake!

This place makes some of the best Neapolitan style pizza in the Chicago area. Cooked in a special domed oven, the charred crust is chewy and soft. Ordered their cavani pizza which had the salty speck with creamy mozzarella and other flavorful meat toppings. The slices were a wonderful start of the meal.
But their classic lobster risotto was magnificent. Prepared in a rich and creamy cognac sauce and perfectly cooked lobster, an excellent entree!!! Michelin worthy!!

The best pizza in Hyde Park. The Cavani was perfectly crisp, thin and slightly charred to perfection. The speck and pepperoni are good but the real star is their crumbled sausage. Service was very prompt, friendly and quintessentially Italian.

Outside of the food always being so delicious and on point… the staff is always so welcoming and friendly. Our server Diego gave us superb service last night. He had quite a few tables but he was so attentive to mine to the point he even noticed I didn’t like my drink too much, came over and asked if I wanted to try something else, which I absolutely did but didn’t want to be a pest. It was a great evening full of laughs and good energy. Thank you Diego and the rest of Nella staff for such a requisite experience. It makes all the difference

Amazing food and great vibes. The calamari was super light, crispy, and juicy (not greasy at all). The risotto was rich and creamy with mushrooms, sausage, and truffle, and the walnuts added the perfect little crunch. Everything was really flavorful and well-balanced. First time trying risotto and it was a 10/10. Will definitely be back!

Great service! Ate with my dog on the patio. Great atmosphere, but know that the fire department is nearby so sitting outside can get loud. Food is a bit pricey but seafood was good quality. The squid in the seafood dish was amazing! Panna cotta was okay. I’m more into bourbon than beer, but I really enjoyed the amberata.

Breathtaking Italian restaraunt that blew my expectations. First, the service was top notch, never forgetting to refill our water glasses three times, and being available always. There was a lot to choose from but i chose the the sarrachino with mussels and black truffle, ans was incredibly rich, perfect amount of salt, a very nice savory sauce that paired very well with the mussels, which were perfectly done. The only downside was that i couldnt really taste the black truffleI, it was too subtle for me. I also wish the portion size was larger because it was absolutely delicious, which made up for the hefty $32 price tag. The meat pizza was very thin, crispy, succulent, and the meat was very tender. Overall a fancy dinner, though very expensive, but the quality makes up for the price. Also the wait time is super short!! No more than 10 minutes! As a result dinner was short but a meaningful experience on the uchicago campus, so definitely will want to come again

revisited for the first time in years for a friend’s chicago marathon carbo-load and it was just as wonderful as i remembered. the food was delicious, and our server’s recommendations were fantastic. my only complaint is that we felt a draft come in every time the door opened despite there being two sets of double doors, and that our table was definitely too small for how many dishes we ordered
we tried the insalata di mare, funghi e salsiccia pizza, ciotta ciotta stuffed pizza, marathon spaghetti & meatballs, paccheri alla boscaiola pasta, sarracino pasta, scialatielli di nella pasta, and chocolate lava cake. their pizzas are delicious, but their pastas were definitely the highlight for me. i especially enjoyed the scialatielli di nella, which was a red sauce pasta with lobster and other seafood flavors. the mussels in it were super tasty, and they melted in my mouth when they were warm
