Daughter and I tripped over this really special place just by serendipitous chance and we were both so happy that we did. So much to share about the experience that is being offered here. From the moment you walk up you feel like you have found something special. Part of the reason I love to review and share places is more than just the food. It’s also about the quality of the atmosphere and customer service you receive. The experience. When we were sat we found two small warm towels that smelled incredible for us to wipe our hands with. The whole place smelled so good. The atmosphere was warm and dimly lit. There is no access to the restaurant from the street which makes it feel exclusive and special which made our special day out even better. The food is the perfect amount and there is so much flavor in each bite. We enjoyed the lunch combo which came with two hand rolls and your choice of salad or soup. I would have taken more photos but I just wanted to enjoy the moment. If you get a chance to visit or live in Austin, you should definitely go see them.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Standout Sushi Experience

I had an exceptional meal at Neighborhood Sushi. The variety and execution of the dishes made it clear this place takes its craft seriously. We ordered a wide range of items, and not a single plate missed.

The Secret Garden and To Saturn and Back were creative, balanced, and beautifully presented. The Broccolini Tempura and Truffled Beech Mushroom Tempura hit that perfect light-crispy texture without feeling heavy, and the Corn Kakiage was surprisingly addictive.

Nigiri was the real highlight. The Sea Bream, Tasmanian Trout, Fluke, Japanese Western, and 2 King Crab Nigiri were all incredibly fresh, expertly cut, and seasoned with just the right touch—no soy sauce needed. Even the house-made Kizami Wasabi stood out.

The hot items were equally strong: the Basil Shrimp Tempura was delicate and flavorful, the Amberjack Crudo was bright and clean, and the Fish Collar was rich, tender, and perfectly charred.

Cocktails were thoughtful as well—The Rising Sun and Red Dragon Cocktail both paired perfectly with the food without overpowering it.

Service from Tomas was smooth and attentive throughout, and the whole experience felt relaxed but elevated. With the amount and quality of food we ordered, the value felt absolutely justified.

If you want sushi that’s both creative and technically precise, this place is a must. I’d come back in a heartbeat.

We made a last-minute reservation and felt a little bad coming in close to closing time, but Roy made us feel completely welcomed. He never rushed us, was attentive, and even gave great recommendations from the menu. We drove all the way from Dallas just for dinner, and we’re so glad we chose this spot because everything was amazing. Nothing disappointed, and I would definitely come back just to eat here again. Highly recommend, especially with Roy as your server!

The absolute best dish I had there was the Miso Glazed Salmon Collar. Will definitely go back just for that. Other dishes we tried included: spicy tuna tataki, amberjack crudo, Suzuki “Japanese Sea Bass,” and Salmon & Avocado tempura.

With a speakeasy entrance vibe….the front doors are located in the parking lot. The back door isn’t open for entry on S Congress. Once you enter there is nice natural lighting and the booths offer some privacy with built in privacy screens. My boys haven’t had a somewhat fine dining setting with chopsticks so it was a fun learning experience. They liked the miso soup, rice, and the fun desserts. I enjoyed the lightness and complexity of flavor of the dishes. They paid attention to detail. Definitely a great spot for a date or a small family. They had tamarind sauce for those who are gf and lots of options for gf and df. Even dessert! Great spot. Thank you Kevin (a Yelp buddy) for the recommendation!

Incredible experience. On par with the likes of Uchi, Toshokan, and other major sushi contenders in Austin! The service was attentive, friendly, and laid back. Staff was knowledgeable of their menu and kindly made modifications, if necessary, for dietary issues. I specifically went for lunch and enjoyed the Chirashi lunch set, Salmon Crunch Hand Roll, and many fresh salads. ❤️ Dessert was refreshing and fun too! Definitely will be back in the near future.

I had super high expectations from the entrance to the stylish decor. I was really looking forward to sushi at the counter. There were just a few things that underwhelmed me. As a Japanese, miso soup is always served last so wish I had that at the end. While being at the counter is nice, I missed the ability to interact with the chefs and see the fish as it is prepared. They were so diligent and professional but had no customer interaction and the fish cannot be seen. Finally , the tiny $24 Fatty Tuna hand roll was so small and gone in 3 bites. Just felt that it was over-priced. Perhaps having some nigiri set menus would have been nice as ordering everything a la carte felt too expensive for 1 piece. Hats off to the chef and owner, very nice, creative and probably a 5 star experience for many locals but honestly, wasn’t for me as I was hoping for something more authentic with better value.

We’d heard great things about Neighborhood Sushi and were really excited to try it. Finally made reservations this weekend and it did not disappoint. We ordered so much to share and everything we tried was so delicious! The service was outstanding too. Reservations are a mush and parking can be a little tricky since it’s a small lot. Overall though this is definitely our favorite Austin sushi spot.

Exceptional! A top 10 meal. My wife and I celebrated my birthday at the sushi bar. The restaurant could not have done more to make the meal special. We started with complimentary glasses of champagne and our order of the Sea Bream collar… amazing. Not one tiny piece of that Sea Bream tasted fishy, just beautiful sweet meat, crispy delicious skin, and an amazing pickled wasabi relish. While waiting for our mains they brought a complimentary vegetable tempura, product of an accidental order from another table, but delightful to receive. The flavor and dipping sauces were amazing. We then had Fatty Salmon, Fluke, Baja Bass, Golden Eye Snapper, and Snow Crab nigiri. Every piece was flawless. Sweet and delicious. We also had the Yellowtail Scallion roll, which was a little lackluster, but the fish was perfect. For birthday desert they brought a complimentary scoop of ice cream with coconut, crispies, and chocolate syrup. We also ordered the Ube Panna Cotta, which being a purple gelatinous shape, looked really freaky, but the flavor was outstanding! The service was extremely friendly and engaging. They went out of their way to make the meal special and outdid themselves in the process. … Lastly, our bill with desert and two drinks each, was right around $200. Just the other week we ate at a fairly pedestrian steakhouse for nearly $400. This was a MUCH more impressive, much more special meal. … Highly recommend!

Went for lunch with a friend. The sushi and nigiri were amazing…such high quality! And the atmosphere and aesthetic were incredible! My only minor complaint is that it’s on the pricier side for a lunch, but thinking that’s likely the case with any nicer sushi spot (I don’t usually go for lunch, so can’t confirm). Will be back!
