Absolutely amazing Nigerian food! We ordered egusi with iyan, jollof rice, and both fish and chicken stew — everything was bursting with flavor and perfectly seasoned. The egusi was rich and authentic, the jollof had just the right spice, and the stews were full of tender meat and depth. You can really taste the love and tradition in every bite. We left full and happy — highly recommend this spot for anyone craving real Nigerian comfort food! The owner/cook/host Nayo, was pleasant.

The lights that are all around would be beautiful if the overheads were off to give it a grown and sexy vibe at night.
The Jollof rice was amazing!!! I have had Jollof before, but not like this. The fish was delicious. Warm, friendly atmosphere. Family friendly with seating areas.

I had such a great experience at Nayo’s African Cuisine! The food was absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavor. I ordered pounded yam with bitter leaf soup and also some ogbono soup — everything was fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly.

You can really taste the quality and the love put into the food. The soups were rich and flavorful, and the portions were generous. I truly enjoyed every bite!

I will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to anyone craving real African cuisine. Great job!

My brother and I visited Nayo’s African Cuisine on New Year’s Eve and ordered the jollof rice with a side of plantains. The flavors were beautifully balanced with just the right amount of spice and tasted truly authentic. Everything felt freshly made and full of care. I’d recommend calling ahead to confirm entrée availability, especially on busy days. I’m already looking forward to coming back to try the egusi or okra soup. A great spot for real African comfort food.

The egusi soup was horrible by far the worst I’ve ever had their plantains was good but you can mess that up of course… Sincd I couldn’t get regular egusi I got whiting fish and I can honestly say for that to be 30 something dollars worth that’s terrible, and I’m not the type of person to waste food so I had someone help me to try to finish it… I’m sorry I will not be purchasing again.

Tried Nayo’s Kitchen and had an amazing experience all around. The food was authentic, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Every dish brought back real taste-of-home vibes.

The service was friendly and welcoming, and the space had a comfortable, down-to-earth feel that made the whole experience even better.

If you’re looking for legit Nigerian cuisine in the area, Nayo’s Kitchen is the spot. I’ll definitely be back.

Wanted to treat hubby to some cuisine from his culture and so we went here. It’s a long distance from home but it was a mild weather day in December so we decided to make the drive on 12/9/24.

We ring the bell and a young boy let us in and we sat down. It was awhile before someone came to tend to us but as my husband was explaining to me, in the African culture, you go to them to tell them what you want, not the other way around. They were in the back busy cooking and preparing, there is a open window where you can order.

We got to meet the owner who the restaurant is named after, Anayo. He was awesome! I wanted to order the fried rice or the coconut rice but those are large orders for several people which are only for call in but they don’t indicate that on the menu. I got to order the last meat pie they had and OMG, I’m still dreaming about how good it was! I ordered the jollof rice and told them mild spice but it was still a bit too hot for me but in Nigeria, that is how they spice their food, LOL. It comes with goat meat and fish. I loved the fish as it was flavorful, crispy and delicious! I will make sure to order that fish again. Hubby got the Nkwobi made with cow feet, scotch bonnet pepper, onion, palm oil Spinach and seasonings. It was so hot but he enjoyed every bit of it.

Anayo told us that they have only been open for 1 year. I hope they continue and thrive. I got to taste a strawberry yogurt drink that they had in the frig that was in a 1 liter container. I really enjoyed that also.

You get the bill after you pay – they told us our total for us to pay. Not used to that but they aren’t the first business that I’ve experience to do that.

Area was very quiet that evening.

Thank you Nayo’s – see you soon!

This is coming late but, I was in Chicago for Nigeria’s independence and on the 4th of October, Saturday, I went to visit a friend in Evanston, on my way back to my hotel I searched for Nigerian food near me, I had 2 options with this being the closest, I saw the reviews and the pictures of the food and was like yeah let’s give it a try.
When I went in, I was greeted nicely, and mind you they were about closing, about 10minutes, store was empty and they were cleaning, the person who attended to me was informative, I asked a lot of questions and he answered everyone, and you know that I don’t care attitude some Nigerians have where they act like you’re stressing them or wasting their time, I didn’t get that here at all, the place was clean, well put together and organized, after reviewing the menu and questions about what they had was answered, I ordered my food.

While I went to sit waiting for my food, the music was already shut off, and mind you like I mentioned earlier they were literally closed, but still accommodated me anyway, the nice gentleman turned on the music in the restaurant make me feel comfortable and relax, he was patient and didn’t make me feel rushed.

My food didn’t take long especially for Nigerian food, my order was carry out so I didn’t eat there, I also got some groundnut(peanut) they had there and 2 malt.

Back at my hotel, it’s time to eat, and the aroma of the food literally filled the room, this nice looking bowl of OKAZI and Poundo for me, and a plate of Jollof rice for my boyfriend, I’m telling you RIGHT NOW !!!!!!!!! That’s the best tasting Nigerian food I ever ate in the US and I’m not kidding.
The Okazi tastes like something you’ll get in Nigeria at a beer parlor eating good food with music and drinking beer, I don’t know how else to explain it, that Okazi is the best tasting Okazi I ever had, it was so nostalgic I felt like I was back home, it was too good, it was also filled to the brim and they weren’t stingy with the assorted meat and fish in the soup, every scoop had meat.
I’m telling you I expected good food but ngl I didn’t expect it to be this authentic tasting, it wasn’t gentrified like at all, it was goooood.

The Jollof Rice was good too, I had jollof the previous day after leaving a party and that doesn’t compare in any way to this, it tasted sooo good, the sauce on the fish was so good too, it reminded me of our neighbor back home, Miss Chi Chi, when we always sneak to her house cause her food always smelt so good, that sauce tastes exactly like hers, the jollof taste homely but also restaurant standard.
The only thing is it wasn’t spicy but I’m sure they could make it spicier if you asked.

Note : I don’t know these people, never been here, never eaten from here before, this is undiluted and unfiltered honest review.
I am for sure going to be back, I don’t care if I’m in Illinois or minutes away, I’ll drive all the way just to taste the other soups they have.
Kudos to the man that attended to me, I didn’t get his name, I think he’s the owner or if not maybe a manager.

I’m not a regular so to welcome me even when you’re closed is excellent customer service, the patience to answer all my questions and helping in choosing my food was splendid, to then turning on the music to make me feel welcomed was Gold, I really appreciate it.

Keep doing what you’re doing and I’m sure you’ll always get the recognition you need and deserve.

IF you’re ever in the area and looking for AUTHENTIC NIGERIAN FOOD, I’ll recommend this place over and over again, you should check it out, you’ll get a bang for your buck.

The food was very fresh! My aunt said it was excellent. Although the guy (cook) serving us wasn’t the friendliest, he did give us the authentic experience. Overall the food was tasty food.
