Nana’s Deli has recently rebranded as the first and only sourdough bagel shop in Jersey City. They use sourdough starter from my favorite neighborhood bakery, Sourdough Society.
Each bagel is made fresh daily. Their sourdough bagels have a light crisp on the outside and a soft, pillowy center. They’re chewy without being tough, so they won’t break your jaw.
I’ve been picking up sourdough loaves regularly from Sourdough Society, located right inside Nana’s Bagel. Truly some of my favorite sourdough around!
*Nova Lox Bagel $13.95
My favorite! I love an open-faced bagel, and the sourdough base made it even better. The lox was perfectly savory, layered over a generous swipe of scallion cream cheese with red onion and capers. Truly a chef’s kiss.
*Pastrami Egg and Cheese $13.95
I’ve always loved Nana’s hot pastrami sandwich, and this sourdough bagel version was just as good. The pastrami was smoky, tender, and juicy. As a carnivore, I just wished there were a few more pastrami slices.

I’m a west coast soughdough lover, married into an east coast family. This was my first New York style bagel, and they’re soughdough! So good. Got the salt bagel with scallion cream cheese. Salt is fine grind and doesn’t fall off the top. Good amount of cream cheese. Friendly service, good people. Would definitely come back next time I visit.

While walking to my destination on a work trip this week, I came across Nanas, walked in, very friendly staff and really cool decorative storedront, got a Bacon Egg and Cheese on Bagel. At first I won’t lie the price threw me off a bit, however when I sat down to eat it, I unwrapped basically a whole delicious omelette on one of the best bagels I’ve ever had. Got my moneys worth! So good I went back the next day. I will be traveling back and I know where I’m getting my breakfast!

I tried the hot pastrami sandwich and it was pretty good – the pastrami itself was flavorful, I also added Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on the Italian hero roll. It came with a side pickle and macaroni salad. Only thing is I wish it had been heated a bit more (cheese did not melt), but overall the flavors were good. Would recommend.

This place is great, real NY bagels, only sourdough in Jersey City. Salt bagels have fine/flaky salt, chewy on the outside firm and wonderful in the middle. Everything are awesome. Great place to sit lots of room and warm!! People are real friendly, and reasonable prices. Don’t miss it. !

My family is very picky about bagels and these are some of the best ones we’ve ever had, and they’re sourdough! Crunchy but soft and chewy and hold together for sandwiches. The salt bagel had nice flaky salt and was incredible with the scallion creamcheese. Super nice staff as well.

The workers were nice, the food was mid. I was looking forward to the tuna sandwich but it was weirdly super sweet. The roast beef on their IG was hot and fancy, our roast beef sandwich was cold. Sandwiches come with a side of coleslaw and pickle (super juicy and salty!). All in all it was good to give it a try once!
