Namaste Shangri-la is one of those small, family-run spots that doesn’t try to be anything it’s not, and that’s exactly its charm. No frills, no fuss, just honest hospitality and comforting food that feels like it comes from a real place of care. Service here feels more like being welcomed into a family gathering than a polished, Western-style dining experience. It’s warm, casual, and genuine, so don’t expect white-glove formality. Expect heart.

The menu is impressively large, and I mean large. It spans nine pages, which gives you a sense of how many options there are. While it can feel a bit overwhelming at first, it also means there’s something for everyone. We ordered the Beef Curry and Beef Korma, both served thali-style, which is a great way to sample a few different items without committing to full-sized entrées. It turned the meal into more of a tasting experience than a single-dish affair.

We also had to try the momos, and everything we ordered came out warm, generously portioned, and layered with spices that were comforting rather than overpowering. Nothing was flashy, just solid, satisfying food that hits the spot.

This isn’t a place you come to for a curated dining experience. You come here for warmth, generous plates, and the feeling that you’re eating food made with care. If that’s your vibe, Namaste Shangri-la is absolutely worth a visit.

This one is a tough one between a 3 and a 4 but at the end of the day, it needs to be a 3.
From an Indian food perspective, there was nothing really exciting here! I know I’m being a hard critic here but I get excited when I go to an Indian restaurant and my expectations are high, I admit it. The appetizer menu options were OK and it tasted OK. I got lamb curry and other members of my party tried other variations of the curry, but all of us had the same impression that it was all OK, nothing that stood out as that curry that we have been searching for that is incredibly good!
My favorite part of the meal honestly was the non-bread they did a great job with their garlic nonbread. The restaurant is pretty small so seating is limited, but I give them kudos for trying to incorporate the Indian culture with pictures of Indian art and Indian landscape and even a TV on an Indian channel.
Service was great, they are patient and helpful when you are experiencing new Indian foods.

At the end of the day, for someone that hasn’t had Indian food that much I think that they would enjoy it and I would recommend that they go.

However, if you are an Indian food lover, I’m hoping that I can find a better option for you in Alaska!

Best Indian food in town in my opinion. I’ve had the tikka masala, korma, saag, biryani, samosas, naan, all fantastic. Some times the meat is a little dry, but the sauces make up for it. If you ask for it hot they will legitimately make it spicy, which is a plus for me .

Delightful experience – I’ve been coming to Namaste Shangri-La for years and it never disappoints. Consistently delicious food, attentive and caring, but never overbearing service and cozy feel.

I frequently bring family to eat here, and we get a variety of dishes to share. The saag paneer, butter chicken, bhaigan barta, aloo govi and naan are some of my favorites, all generously portioned.

This is my favorite masala chai in all of Anchorage – after traveling in India I came home and had been looking for a chai to bring me back to those flavors, and Namaste’s is perfection.

A friend told me about this place and it didn’t disappoint. It was SO good! I got the fish curry of the day, achar, naan, and chai. Didn’t realize the curry came with rice – I’m used to paying separate for that – so this was a massive meal for me. It was HOT and fresh coming to the table. Also free masala chai refills?! In this economy? And they tried to give me some to go (I was stuffed)? What is this place! The service was great as well.

I will absolutely be back. Highly recommend.

Visiting Alaska from Houston. Found this halal place. It is a very nice place with good food. Nice clean environment. Suresh was very friendly and took good care of us. Biryani was good, but chicken qorma was a little buttery. Dal soup with chicken was very good.

A though 3 one for this one!! It’s best to eat Indian since this is ” better” option in Anchorage city. But food quality is OK. We ordered appetizers – Momo’s, Daal Soup..both were average.
Main course – Veg Thali, salmon curry , paneer matar masala and naan. Main course could have been better.

Hygine- Hygine wise they are OK. They have a restroom which was clean and hotel was ordinary cleaned.

Service- Service was ok too.

They could have very well done better with taste and less oil etc. But this is the only better option in Anchorage.

Went twice here and I must say they have done wonderful job in attracting locals to the restaurant. I saw (probably owner) asking most of the folks if they tried Indian before and telling them about the food and guiding them.

They have variety of option on their menu and their high spicy is really spice and I don’t suggest to try if you are not use to.

The food tasted good and they have very quick service as well. What I didn’t like about it is, they charging me for onions. In most of the restaurants onion, lemons are given complimentary.

A great selection of Southeast Asian foods. Great customer service, fair pricing, and healthy portions. They’re often very busy Friday nights, so takeout can take awhile longer, often 45 minutes minimum. Other days takeout is typically ready in 15-25 minutes in our experience. Food is often great, but can be inconsistent (two orders ago we ordered vegetable momos and got beef momos instead because they ran out and tonight our cheese naan was burnt to to the point it tasted more burnt than cheese.) It often hits the spot. Good option for those who like Himalayan and southeast Asian cuisine.
