Eating at Nahual Maya felt like a trip back to Honduras and Guatemala! We were immediately warmly greeted when walking in and seated at our table. It’s a small space – may 10 tables – but it feels like you’re eating in an abuelas home.

When looking through the menu, our waitress was all smiles and excitement telling us about their food, what it all was, and you could tell this was her joy to do!

We ordered mango agua fresca and horchata (the best ever!), platanos maduros, pastelitos, and baleadas with chicken and steak. I cannot tell you how quickly the whole experience transported us back to what once was “home”. The food is spectacular, and will be a new favorite place to go, right up there with Chella’s!

Give Nahual Maya the love and attention it deserves!

I ended up here when I meant to go to La Costena but decided to give it a try anyway. I wouldn’t visit again, the restaurant is very cramped & overpriced. There’s too many restrictions when it comes to the menu, can’t even order one pupusa bc “it doesn’t come like that” & you have to order 3. You can’t sub the meat like most places allow bc “it doesn’t come like that”. The waitress had an attitude when she misunderstood our order which was very basic & that made our experience uncomfortable. After all it is her job to confirm what the customer wants to eat. She didn’t give us a check to confirm charges & didn’t want to give us a receipt after payment, I had to ask her a few times for it. The food is way too expensive for the quality, $15 for 3 pupusas is steep. Lower your prices or up the quality.

Response to owner: Wanting to order 1 pupusa instead of 3 is not a drastic change, not everyone eats that much food. Yes, that’s what Google is for- to leave honest reviews & reading YOUR reviews you have a serious quality & pricing issue as I highlighted in my original review as well as unprofessionalism & it is seen in all of YOUR responses to customers that spend their money at your place. I’m not going to say my experience & food was great when it wasn’t. If you’re reading this, GO EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE! I recommend La Costena 3 minutes away, they are way more professional & food is delish.

I stopped by for lunch today and had a great experience. The staff and our server were incredibly friendly. Our server was especially kind, she took the time to explain different dishes, shared her personal recommendations, and even helped us with the Spanish pronunciation of menu items! The food and drinks were absolutely delicious.

A favorite stop in the city! Great pupusas, tostones, and empanadas…even the rice and beans are bursting with flavor Lots of great drinks too (Jamaica, horchata, mango and papaya juice). My kids love it, and we do too. Service is always so friendly and helpful. I hope they are able to expand their space soon — it’s a bit cramped for dine-in, so we typically enjoy it as takeout.

Overall, a step up from other Latin restaurants in town (of which there are many great options). Give Nahual Maya a try next time you’re on Prince Street!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about my experience at Nahual Maya. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with such warmth and kindness. The staff here are incredibly sweet and attentive, making us feel like honored guests in their home.

Now, let’s talk about the food. Oh my goodness. It is nothing short of lip smacking good! You can truly taste the love and care in every single bite. We learned that everything is made from scratch—and it shows. From the vibrant, freshly made juices to the perfectly made from complete scratch sides and the succulent, main dishes it was a culinary journey through Central America!

The flavors are authentic, deep, and beautifully balanced. You won’t find any pre-made or frozen shortcuts here. It’s clear that the chefs use traditional methods and the freshest ingredients to create dishes that are bursting with soul and love.

If you’re looking for a meal that is prepared with passion and served with genuine hospitality, you MUST visit Nahual Maya it’s like taking a trip to Guatemala or El Salvador. It’s more than just a dinner or lunch, it’s a truly memorable experience. We can’t wait to return.

This is the best meal I’ve had out in a long time! I was craving a burrito but this came up on my search and thought I’d try Honduran. I’ve never had it before.

What an amazing meal! I had the chicken pupusas and a beef enchilada with a fresh juice. The flavors were amazing. I love the hot sauce selection as well.

Everything was fresh, the service was warm, the place is clean and bright. Level up your burrito craving and check this place out.

So, so, so good.

You have to check out this new downtown Lancaster restaurant the features food from Panama, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

First, I want to say the service was exceptional. Everyone was extremely sincere and genuinely happy to have us there. Nothing but smiles and excitement to share their food.

Unsure of what to order, we ordered pupusas (corn pancake with bean and cheese or meat filling) with shrimp and then one with a mix, an empanada and the grilled steak meal that came with rice and beans, two tortillas, salad and guacamole. All the found was authentic and delicious.

Also, try the natural juice with your meal. I promise, it’s worth it. They had melon (cantaloupe) which was refreshing and super fresh.

Go support another local business in the heart of downtown Lancaster. You won’t be disappointed.

I used to live in Silver Spring, MD where thanks to the Salvadoran population pupusas abound. But I have for the past ten years living in Pittsburgh, PA where the closest option are Colombian arepas. They’re not bad, but they’re just not the same. I had forgotten how wonderful pupusas are until I stopped at Nahual Maya for lunch when I visited Lancaster five months ago! I don’t remember the specifics of my order, but I do remember the overall experience as one of unmitigated pleasure. The woman serving me suggested a drink–and I didn’t hear clearly what she said–which was very refreshing. The pupusas themselves were heavenly! I look forward to ask my future trips to Lancaster, and to Nahual Maya.

All I can say is wow. Hands down, one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Everything made fresh and with love. All flavors shone with every bite. Ordered a bean/cheese pupusa, a pastelito special, and the Nahual parillada. Must try for yourselves.
