Try Nagle’s Apothecary Café for A Romantic Step Back in Time!

Nagle’s is a historic apothecary/pharmacy in Ocean Grove NJ that has been transformed magically into a restaurant, café, old-fashioned soda fountain and ice-cream parlor. It is located only 2 blocks from the ocean in the historic heart of Ocean Grove, a Victorian seaside splendor. The decor is from the original Nagle’s Apothecary reaching back to 1901. The food is classic American and out of this world!

The dining room tables are adorned with century old newspaper clippings complete with photos of what the Jersey shore towns looked like in the 1900s. The walls are decorated with the old-fashioned pharmaceutical instruments, antique apothecary Items, old medicine bottles and labels that were actually found in the very same building from its previous life as an apothecary.

For romantic times you can sit at tables for two in the front window overlooking the historic picturesque Victorian town with interesting shops. They have outside seating for warm spring, summer, and autumn days. Save room for dessert, because they make their very own in a variety of delicious flavors.

It is indeed a great place, with great history and great food! Their food and cleanliness are outstanding. As a former New Jersey Assistant Commissioner of Health and former President of the New Jersey Public Health Association, I give Nagle’s my highest recommendation. Nagle’s is outstanding and a true gem of the Jersey Shore.

The restaurant is really cute. We went twice this weekend. The first time for breakfast when we first arrived. I am not going to lie the service was awful. We had a young girl as a server and she took out order and dropped the check. Every other time we needed anything we had to ask a passing server. I also had to send my food back because I cant have dairy so I specifically asked for no cheese and my salad was covered. My friends really enjoyed what they had both girls ordered omelettes. We went back later that night for ice cream after dinner. The line was crazy long but the service was really fast and the moved us along. The girls raved about how amazing the mint chocolate chip and cookie dough brownie. Over all skip breakfast but go for the ice cream and don’t let the line stop you.

Strong menu, this open faced Turkey Sammie had mashed stuffing and gravy under ten dollars. The ice cream is not local but the atmosphere is so cool

Very cool local spot in an old drugstore that had a soda fountain. Also has outside seating in season as well as a walk up ice cream window.

It is a fun place to stop for ice cream. Like stepping back in time. My friends and I had sundaes and they are certainly generous without their scoops. It’s delicious so you just keep stuffing your face, when you should have stopped 5 spoonfuls ago. The staff is very friendly and very nice. You can tell they like what they do. Enjoy

This is one of the best breakfast places I have ever been to. Nagles has an amazing, cozy, comforting atmosphere. The staff is so friendly, and the food is delicious. The omelettes are amazing. I also get the sausage on the side because it is just do perfect. The home fries are some of the best you will find. I also love the old newspaper underneath the glass tables as they are so interesting to read. I would definitely recommend going here if you are in the area.

Cool place. They’ve honored the building’s history as a pharmacy beautifully. Fascinating and fun decor. Servers are charming and the food is generally quite good. My grilled cheeses was amazing; my uncle’s pancakes were disappointing. Nevertheless, it’s our favorite place to eat in Ocesn Grove.

My fiance has been going here since he was a child and loves it and I see why. The food is good. If you want, you can just grab an ice cream from the window. The best thing about it though is the atmosphere. It used to be a pharmacy in the old days and they kept a lot of news clippings and ads and items from those days and the line the walls. It’s usually pretty busy, but for good reason.

Love this place for years!!! It’s an old apothecary transformed into a great breakfast lunch grill. Emphasis on awesome omelettes and daily specials. Triple deckers clubs wraps pastrami.

Also a fantastic selection of home made ice cream. Great atmosphere so much to offer. Not a normal place. Must visit.
