I’ve been wanting to go to this place since I had opened , I finally got the chance and took it . I arrived and even though the time said the show starts at 6:00 p.m. I had to stand outside with the rest of the group for almost 30 minutes for them to open the doors . We all crammed inside a very small entrance way to get roll call done before entering the main dining room. It was very cramped and very loud. Once we proceed into the dining area I can say that the atmosphere was absolutely astonishing the decor was amazing the absolutely size of the table alone was giving Castle King vibes. There were so many cool things to look at. We sat there for a good another half hour before anyone introduced themselves , which is when she let us know that she was working by herself running the kitchen and the waiting staff and the host all-in-one we commended her and let her for sure take as much time as she needed although that did take away from some of the experience. Again of course not her fault. If this had been a well maintain stuff it probably would have ran very smoothly. All of us were under the impression that we would be seeing a show while eating that was not the case unfortunately. We were sad at this huge table and all the strangers just conversed awkwardly or kept to their own groups while eating. The food was very bland untasteful and honestly cold. And I am sorry but I do not feel that a small peach sorbet pallet cleanser that was so rock hard it felt like it Was freezer burnt is viable as one of the course menu items . Again if the staff had been well-maintained and they had enough people this could have been completely different. After the dinner courses they brought out the magician and I have to say that I did have the VIP sitting right in front however I do not feel like that is a good option because you can see the sleight of hand the cards and some of the tricks as they are performed. Which honestly took a lot of the magic away for me. This experience that I thought was going to be maybe an hour and a half turned into more than 3 hours ! Halfway through you could tell that most of the people about 98% were ready to be done and leave.. sadly this experience did not meet the expectations and the height that it generally gets on social media. However with a well-maintained staff and maybe further seating back it would be really beneficial to the venue. I would recommend this for date nights and something fun to experience once I wouldn’t go back myself for a second time around. Although I do feel that the kids would absolutely love this entire thing as far as the decorations the magician the food if they’re not picky I really think that this is the spot to take your children ♥️
Let’s get into it! The show was okay and the atmosphere was Top notch. Food – HORRIBLE!!!!. Bacon wrapped dates – dehydrated bacon flavored rock. Salad – limp, overdressed and warm. Prime rib- flavorless and chewy, chalky potato’s, sour cream (not) horseradish, and auju that was sooooooo salty my ears were ringing! I spit out everything because I could not swallow it!!!! The last picture is how much I ate. You could see I did not eat anything. The server never even asked if I needed anything or if the meal was okay. NOTHING. I Spent OVER 200.00 for this. I’m soooo disappointed and truly heartbroken that the service team did not even try to make it right. Never even acknowledged me. THE SHOW- The phrase “dark arts” was mentioned over 20 times. The performer constantly Trying to get everyone to say we wanted to participate in “the dark arts”. That did nothing for the show except make us uncomfortable and not want to be there. I am soooo disappointed. Waste my hard earned money and time. I want a REFUND for that disgusting meal!
1. The dry ice and apple slice are no longer in everyone’s goblets, which immediately cut down on the cool ambiance when we entered the room.
2. The caramel dip was replaced with a weird balsamic drizzle over the apple slices and the “witches toes” we’re reduced from 4 to 2 (plus, the bacon tasted chewy and undercooked).
3. The presentation of the food is now sub-par.
4. The salad is bare minimum. The dressing was good, but it was mostly a leafy green mix with a couple of red onion slices, a few pumpkin seeds, and minimum parmesan slices. Very different from how the salads were previously. They were full of different things and looked beautiful. These looked like they were tossed in the bowl.
5. The food just tastes bad. I tasted the Mac and cheese (which was mushy and yet somehow dry at the same time), prime rib (dry and chewy), salmon (the salmon was okay, but the rice it was on was undercooked in some bites and mushy in others), and lamb (TINY portion of lamb pieces and rock hard pita bread. The best part was the raspberry sorbet, that was really good. It feels like they’ve started getting cheep ingredients plus they aren’t cooked well. BRING BACK THE OLD RECIPES/CHEF!!!
The staff and magician were awesome. Honestly, we’re not sure if we’re going back. If the food doesn’t change, we definitely won’t. I didn’t want to eat any of that again. 🙁
For starters, when setting up reservations, there’s no prompt or option to include food allergies or dietary restrictions, nor any indication of what salad or dessert you’ll be served. I understand that accommodating individual needs adds extra work for the chefs and servers, but it’s clear they’re capable of doing so. They just make it unnecessarily difficult to communicate those needs.
I’ll admit, I probably could’ve been more proactive about noting the allergies and preferences at my table, but sometimes that’s not something you think about until the moment comes up. A simple prompt during checkout would’ve made the whole experience smoother. Forgive me for not wanting to have to call the restaurant in advance just to confirm details that could have been easily clarified online.
The reason I bring this up is that both the surprise salad and dessert caused issues. One of my friends is allergic to certain types of nuts, and the salad dressing had a distinct peanut-butter-like taste. Luckily, my friend isn’t allergic to peanuts, but for a moment there was a scare and it would’ve been nice to have a heads up especially if someone is actually allergic. Then, when dessert was brought out, my friend who doesn’t like cake noticed another table being served sorbet. When we asked if she could have that instead, we were told no because it was a “pre-selected” gluten-free option. Again, I can acknowledge some responsibility for not being more proactive, but it’s incredibly frustrating that we weren’t even told those options existed in the first place.
In addition
Three of our orders something went wrong.
For my order: I got a prime rib that was cut up for me in error, minor thing and didn’t bother me however it highlights how yes they were willing to juggle accomodations but also they were extremely uncoordinated about it. The server who gave it to me rushedly apologized that they mixed up something with the chips.
For one of my friends: the waiter mentioned they accidentally did some extra effort making this is a “calorie free” option which I took as they had a specification for someone’s order but they either didn’t show up or they made an extra in error.
And then the most frustrating one:
My friend ordered the Crispy Chicken Al Matone, and in the description it says it comes with a ‘grilled frissee panzanella’ however no such bread salad was ever served to her.
In addition to the errors, my meal of the Prime Rib was decent in the meat itself however the baked potato they served was laughable. It was just a cooked potato with some small herbs sprinkled in there, so bland, something very easily replicatable in your own kitchen for way way cheaper.
The icing on the literal cake for me was when they served dessert and my cake someone seemingly dumped handfuls of powder sugar on it, a testament to how little care and attention was put into this supposed ‘fine dining’
In regards to atmosphere and entertainment:
I wasn’t impressed by the gold painted chairs and the very cramped table set up that made it difficult for the servers to maneuver around.
The magician was a nice guy, however he didn’t have the ideal energy you’d expect from a magician. And I kid you not I was more engaged by an audience member that joined him on stage than the actual magician himself. As a previous reviewer stated he did a lot more talk than he actual did magic tricks.
I feel ripped off and would not recommend, if you want a magical night I would suggest ordering in or making yourself some own food and perhaps watching an America’s got talent magician.
The food this time round, was not on par with the cost. I know it’s hard to balance costs for dinner AND the Magic show, but after all service charges, this is not a cheap night out. All of the food was soooo oversmoked. My son’s prime rib(his favorite food), he didn’t even eat half of. The first time we were there the plate was locked clean. My salmon was so overbearing it was hard to eat, the only flavor was smoke. I’m not sure I’d it was a smoker or liquid smoke, but this was COMPLETELY different than when we ate here in October…and we both purchased the same meal.
The magician was wonderful. I’ll have to look up other places he performs, because I’ll happily pay to see him again, but not with these other charges that are attached at Gardner when the quality isn’t up to it.
