I visited My Father’s Place with a friend back in September 2025. We visited on a Friday afternoon and we didn’t wait long to be seated as the restaurant was just opening for the day. The waiter was very attentive and took our drink orders. I ordered the homemade lemonade which was sweet. When the waiter returned he had a basket of sweet potato muffins and biscuits. After tasting one I couldn’t stop there were so soft and delicious. I knew I had to pry myself from the muffins and biscuits otherwise I would be full and unable to consume my meal. I ordered BBQ chicken wings with white rice & gravy along with collard greens. I’m not a spice person and at times black pepper can be too spicy for me. My greens were too spicy for me to consume. My friend ended up eating them. MY BBQ chicken rice with gravy was so delicious. The food was fresh and piping hot that I often burned my tongue trying to eat it quickly. My friend ordered the fried chicken with baked macaroni & cheese and yams. I tasted his meal which was also really delicious. I forgot to mention my friend ordered hush puppies for appetizers in which he said were to salty. They also sell desserts but I have to be honest I was too stuffed to try any desert. The next time I visit I’ll be sure to try a dessert. I’ve been raving about this place since I visited and I can’t wait to return. If you need an accessible restroom this may not be the place to visit as their restrooms are downstairs. They accept both cash and card. I’m not sure if this location is accessible via public transportation as I came in a car. This isn’t the best soul food I’ve had but it was good and a place I would visit again. Try it you might like it.

As a repeat customer, I have to say this place is a sweet gem to the community of Nyack and Rockland County in general. My Father’s House is a warm, cozy, rustic corner-restaurant serving a classical and also a non-traditional take on soul-food. Their approach is to sticks to the foundation – fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, yams, chicken/waffles, smothered pork chops, corn bread, etc. —but it’s presentation is elevated, upscale, and large enough to share with others. There’s also a plant based option for the vegan/vegetarians in your life so no one is left out. The service is 10 out of 10; you are truly treated with warm, family- like Southern Hospitality that NY is usually not known for. The owner is a shinning example of a sweet Southern Belle.

The atmosphere can feel intimate or lively when the right playlist hums in the background—which it did the night we visited, and I couldn’t help but sing along to Anita Baker throughout dinner. My only suggestion to the chef is to please improve the recipe of the waffles so the texture is airy, fluffy on the inside and crispy and crumbly on the outside. Otherwise, this is your go-to for first dates, date nights, anniversaries, birthdays and all other occasions. This is also a nice intro to those who’ve never experienced Southern African American cuisine.

Words can’t describe how beautiful the atmosphere is to eat at this restaurant. Appearance 10, atmospheres 10, Food 10. One of the best places I’ve eaten in years. My family had a great experience and the food excellent. I’ll be back on a regular basis. I truly highly recommend this establishment to anyone. Don’t miss out.

The perfect little slice of Southern charm! This authentic restaurant is tucked away in the most adorable part of town—it truly feels like stepping into a Hallmark movie. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted, and the atmosphere was absolutely impeccable. A woman was singing live with the voice of an angel, adding the perfect touch to the cozy ambiance.

We were seated quickly, and the menu was full of genuine Southern favorites. We tried the short rib (9/10), Cajun shrimp and grits (10/10), and mac and cheese (9/10)—each dish was flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. The sweet cornbread they brought to the table is something I will be trying to replicate for years to come. The service was equally impressive; when we realized we’d forgotten to ask to split the check, the manager personally came over to help and handled it graciously and efficiently.

My only regret is not saving room for dessert—the banana pudding cake sounded heavenly! We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in the area and have already recommended this gem to several friends.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally decided to stop by after work. It was early and relatively empty which was okay because it’s a small restaurant. The service was great. Staff was very friendly, and helpful. The food was tasty. I won’t say it was the best I’ve had but definitely very good. We had the fried whiting with Mac & Cheese and candied yams and the pork chop with collard greens. Prices are reasonable too. I will be back for sure.

BEST FOOD I’VE EVER HAD! Out of all the reviews I’ve ever left on Google Maps in all my years using the app, this restaurant has become the greatest place I’ve ever eaten! It has also become the most friendly, caring, and unfathomably welcoming business I’ve ever been to.

This place, as well as the workers, is something I will always remember and be grateful for. The staff here are the absolute nicest people, and their presence makes the ambiance feel perfect! The environment here is also amazing, with cutesy decorations and live music being performed!

The food here is just heavenly. Pure perfection! The absolute most delicious chicken, fish, and okra I have ever had!

I cannot thank the workers enough, especially Adrian (the owner), Imoni, and Delano enough for their amazing service and amazing hospitality!

This beautiful and cozy setting only added to the quality of our dinner experience. The sweet potato muffins were a pleasant surprise in the basket with biscuits. Both were drizzled with honey maple syrup. We enjoyed the okra hush puppies. My hubby loved the smothered pork chops. My order of shrimp and grits brought me back to my trip to Charleston. The staff was very attentive and it’s clear that there’s love and dedication cooked into every part of this little gem. Highly, highly recommend!!

What a Hidden Gem. My wife and I did not know about this place until we came across Blanco’s Instagram Restaurant Rockland Review. Marcus and Malcom, the severs are handworkers and very dedicated. Marcus brings out the charm, brightness, spark, and spirit of the place (He is a Keeper). He is full of energy the place needs. He gave us both honest recommendations of the menu. It was a busy Friday night, and it did take a bit, but once again our sever was awesome and worth the wait.

The food ooo my God!!! The chicken and waffles.
The Peacan Shrimp and Grits. Finally, I did not have to go down South to get grits (because here in NY let’s be honest majority of places use instant grits. And I did not know what true grits were until I was 18 yrs., old when I went back down to Orangeburg, SC and finally knew what they were).
The Hush Puppies amazing.
The Sweet Tea amazing.
Unfortunately, no room for dessert which next time we will have to save room for.

We will be back soon.

Try this place EVERYONE!!!!

Only way to get food just as good is to get on a plane and fly south. Everything was phenomenal, staff were incredibly polite and friendly, and service was quick. Will be coming back again and again
