We had the scallop appetizer to start, amazing! The blackened fish as my entrée was perfect! My mother loved the steak…. 10/10 Would recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing New Orleans themed dinner out.
Of course We also went upstairs to look at the lounge and balcony. Honestly I would go back to New Orleans just to visit this restaurant.
We had the scallops for the appetizer, absolutely delicious.
I ordered the crab curry soup and hubby ordered the pear salad. Delicious! We both had the tenderloin fillet, and I can honestly say I have never had a steak so tender and delicious, almost a buttery consistency, soooo good. Our waitress was considerate and attentive, even the manager checked on us a few times.
Now for the downside. As indicated on their website, the table is at the bottom of a stairway, and over the course of the almost 2 hrs we were seated, about 35-40 people, a couple at a time, walked through the area, some talking to us, others just quietly walking by. Also, the group ‘tours’ previously mentioned (pub crawl tour, ghost tour, vampire tour, etc) appeared at the door looking into the room, a group every 5-10 minutes, and they looked in and took pictures as their guide explained the history (and we ate our dinner). So, all in all, a unique and wonderful experience. But if anything spiritual was going to happen, I think it was just too busy and noisy (they had Gregorian chanting playing pretty loudly). But still recommend as a great dining experience!
The Turtle Soup and the Shrimp and Goat Cheese Crêpes were absolutely delicious. For our mains, we had the Shrimp and Grits and the Pecan-Crusted Drum, both were perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and genuinely memorable.
We finished with the Bread Pudding (that rum sauce… wow) and the Pecan Tart, and they were the perfect end to the night.
Beyond the food, the vibe was great. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the price felt very fair for how much we got and how good everything was. If you’re in the French Quarter, definitely put Muriel’s on your list. I already want to go back!
We were seated immediately at a low-top table in one of the lower dining rooms. I noticed they did not have table linens, and the silverware was rolled rather than set. We had alternating servers who were professional but not personable.
All four courses were exquisite, from the turtle soup to the lamb. Unfortunately, the enjoyment was spoiled by a large party near us celebrating a birthday. They were loud and obnoxious, acting like they were at a sports bar on bourbon, not at an upscale restaurant that required collared shirts and cost $100+ a person.
My son mentioned it to one of the managers, and he just apologized and nothing else. I would have appreciated it if he had spoken with the table or moved us to a quieter part of the restaurant.
They did not miss on the food. It was excellent. They missed the experience, which would cause me not to return. Please do not portray yourself as refined and upscale, and then back it up.
The recipes are thoughtfully executed, the wine selection is carefully curated, and the way dishes are paired and presented shows real culinary intention. Every course feels balanced and purposeful, and the desserts are simply outstanding—refined, memorable, and perfectly timed to close the meal.
Muriel’s is not just a great restaurant; it is a place that truly honors the spirit and legacy of New Orleans cuisine. Dining here feels like a tribute to NOLA’s gastronomic tradition, elevated with elegance and consistency.
