Wow, Mt. Fuji is something else! I went there yesterday, and I’ve got to say, I was blown away. The chefs put on a real show, cooking everything right in front of us. They were flipping shrimp, making onion volcanoes – the whole deal.

Mt Fuji is one of those places you never forget. It has a very long-standing history in the New York New Jersy area as purveyors of high quality authentic Janapese cuisine. Trying to review a place that has withstood the test of time is difficult. Opening in 1985, there is not much that has not already be mentioned over the years. Paying close attention to typical Japanese tradition, this is not a place you will soon forget. Nestled in the Ramapo Mountains in Hillburn, NY, and a majestic entrance on Old Rt 17, you will serpentine your way up the drive to be graced with more authentic style Japanese decor and architecture. Beautifully landscaped with Koi ponds. The main steps lead down to the entrance where you will be met by a maitre d who will guide you to your reserved table. Reservations are strongly recommended. There are a few types of seating arrangements from standard table and chairs or booth to full size Hibachi stations. For a more private Hibachi type set up, reserve a tatami style booth which does require your shoes to be removed before seating. This is what we reserved this time out. My first endeavor with this type of seating. At first, I was a little apprehensive that I may be uncomfortable, but surprisingly it was fine. We started the evening with drinks (Zombies and Gin & Tonics) and appetizers. After having the Miso soup, Classic Makimono spicy tuna was fantastic. It is served with spicy sauce, tempura crunch, sesame oil and scallion. The Wasabi was really fresh and packed a better than typical punch. Dinners were Hibachi Shrimp, Bonsai Chicken, Mt Fuji Fulet Mignon. All entrees were prepared and cooked at our tatami style table. Entrees include noodles and rice, a garden salad with the best ginger dressing I have ever had. I’ve tried to duplicate it but no joy. Portions are just right (but that is subjective). The highly trained Chef does all the typical antics while cooking and certainly adds to the entertainment and a fulfilling meal. Our wonderful Chefs name is Hedy, and he is not afraid to engage in conversation while he works to prepare your parties’ meals to precision; and that he did! Make your reservation and visit Mt Fuji in Hillburn. I believe you will be glad you did.

First thing first – it is not a random fake Japanese place, so make reservations before you go!!! We were shopping at Woodbury and searched places for Google and found this place. We just drove there without even thinking about they may not take walk in. As we saw the Japanese gate driving up hill all the way to the top of the mountain, and the valet parking sign, we knew we made wrong assumptions. We were lucky that some ppl cancelled their reservations, otherwise we would’ve had to leave. We waited at the bar/waiting area, ordered Japanese bear and cocktails. They have giant windows with beautiful mountain view. The wait was not long. We had 4 ppl so we ordered different items on the menu. Eventually we got to try shrimps, filet mignon, shogun duet, salmon, and sukiyaki prime steak. Loved the tricks our cook did, he sang and joked with us. He cooked everything perfectly. Meats were juicy and tender, not overly salty. The sauces went well with the meats. The entire dinner experience was great. We are thinking about having next gathering here. Can’t wait to come back!

We went here for Mother’s Day and we really enjoyed the experience! I recommend steak hibachi over chicken but that’s just my preference . Sushi rolls were good and cocktails strong and well made. Our daughter enjoyed the spectacle of hibachi style cooking. Views are very nice also.

Wow. We can’t begin to express how amazing it was. We finally were able to visit this place after many years of traveling from Long Island to Upstate and never knowing what the “place up on that mountain” was, until we finally decided to research it and to our surprise it was Mt Fuji!!! My wife and I decided to come here finally for our 6th anniversary and we were so impressed right from the grand entrance and drive up to the restaurant! The interior is amazing, our bartender was super friendly and made our drinks to perfection as we waited for our table. Once at our table our server Hanna was friendly and courteous and was on point with the service. Our chef Hedy made our night as well as others at the table very special and memorable ! The food was amazing the atmosphere was amazing and we cannot wait to come back!!! Thank You Thank You again for the best night!

This place has an amazing location and the view from the inside is fabulous. The food is great and chefs try their best to entertain you during the cooking time. The place is very spacious, so you can bring a lot of people with you for a dinner time, but don’t forget to make a reservation before you go for it. Unfortunately, walk-in guests have to wait for a pretty long to be served. In general, I love this place and for sure will get back there soon for another hibachi portion. ❤️ ❤️

You definitely pay for the ambiance. For 2 people it was $130 (tip included) which is insane. We went for a birthday celebration and we got a piece of fruit. The portions were much smaller than your typical hibachi and the tables were extremely tight. 12 people to a table. Food was decent but overall needed more sauce/seasonings across the board. Wouldn’t go again just based on price alone.

Delicious food and drinks, a fun and impressive performance at the grill, beautiful building and property, friendly and fast service. Brought a friend who had never had hibachi before, and he loved it. Personally, I think they should serve the noodles after the main course, since some of my friends were full after the plateful of carbs, but nothing was actually wrong, we had a great time. Will definitely keep this place in mind for special meals going forward.

I was there with a large group for the Hibachi grill. We were a large group, so sat at adjacent tables. The chef for our table was Ben and he was great! Very funny and engaging. Service was great overall, as were the cocktails. The venue itself is very nice with some very aesthetically pleasing features. Easily the nicest looking Hibachi spot I’ve been to (also the most expensive but, it’s worth it).
