History In 1968 two brothers of Albanian descent Paul and Peter Gogo, took a gamble and opened Mr. Paul’s Chophouse. Paul, who ran the Georgian Inn on Gratiot and Peter who owned a coffee house in Greektown. The Gogo brothers started out with one humble goal-give the public a true dining experience. With Flaming Chateaubriand and Caesar Salad served table side, hand cut steaks, fresh seafood and a professional kitchen and dining room staff. Nothing says you’re serious on a date more profoundly then Chateaubriand for two served on a flaming cart tableside. The restaurant is built in Michigan’s automotive industrial city of Roseville. Tool and die owner’s, however, were only a part of Mr. Paul’s Chophouse. The brothers worked hard to create
Family-owned restaurant serving chops & seafood in a dimly lit, brick-walled dining room since 1968.

The veal Oscar special(shrimp, asparagus, bearnaise) and the bacon-wrapped filet with mashed potatoes special were both well executed and satisfying. They also offer classic options like oysters Rockefeller (albeit I don’t think it’s supposed to come with hollandaise, which breaks its emulsion under broiling), French onion soup, and cream puffs for dessert (ice cream, not whipped cream), which fit the traditional chop house vibe.
Service was very friendly but hugely inattentive and rushed. Overall, it’s a comfortable, traditional chop house with table side-serviced dishes that delivers quality classics.
(Other, random notes:
-some of the appetizers were rushed and shouldn’t have been served while we were still working on others
-Dessert options were limited and weren’t all that special
-The menu had some inaccuracies or weird phrasing
-raw oysters a bit pricey for not being special varieties
-the hostess could’ve mentioned wait times
-waiting at the bar, it wasn’t clear who was taking care of us
-the process for checking out at the bar before being seated at our table was never explained to us)
One of the standout features of this restaurant is its bathroom elegantly designed with low dim lighting that creates a serene atmosphere. It’s a rare find that allows for comfortable conversations, and the meticulous attention to detail is evident throughout.
The dining experience is equally impressive. The Caesar salad is not just a side dish, it’s an experience in itself, crafted with care and precision. The ambiance is elevated by the sight of patrons dressed in suits, adding to the upscale feel of the place. The decor and table linens are meticulously chosen, contributing to a sophisticated dining environment.
But the highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the wagyu, enhanced by a delightful mushroom preparation that I can’t stop raving about. It’s been weeks, and I’m still reminiscing about that exquisite flavor. Overall, Mr. Paul’s Chophouse deserves every bit of its five star rating!
First off, the customer service here is absolutely top-notch. Our server Valia was fantastic — attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect. She kept the wine glasses full for my buddies, and since I’m more of a water drinker (and sipping on my Kettle One), she made sure my glass never went empty either.
One of the coolest parts of the night was watching Riley make our Caesar salad tableside — and let me tell you, it was hands down the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had. Perfectly balanced, fresh, and full of flavor.
For dinner, I went with the filet, and it was cooked to absolute perfection — tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. I joked with my buddies that I was going to ask for A1, but then laughed and said the chef would probably come out and beat my ass for that one — because honestly, the steak didn’t need anything. It was that good.
This was my first time at Paul’s, which is crazy because I used to work in Roseville back in the ’90s — and now I can’t believe I’ve been missing out all these years. Between the vibe, the food, and the amazing service, this place is a gem.
I’ll definitely be back. Paul’s Chophouse is a true classic.
There was just so much happening in such a small place, it wasn’t ideal atmosphere to enjoy an expensive meal. All the food was incredible, including the Caesar salad. But the dessert was refrigerated cake still cold. My prime rib came out how I asked but why did the server warn me my plate was hot when I grabbed it? Clam chowder was outstanding too.
The service elevated the evening even further. Peter was fantastic, warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making the experience special. Mary was an absolute delight of a waitress—gracious, professional, and effortlessly charming. Together, they made us feel welcomed, celebrated, and completely taken care of.
To top it all off, the chocolate cake and ice cream were the perfect ending to a birthday dinner—decadent, indulgent, and unforgettable. The ambiance was elegant yet comfortable, creating the ideal setting for a special night out.
From the incredible food to the impeccable service and inviting atmosphere, Mr. Paul’s Chop House exceeded every expectation. Perfection in every sense. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
