Grabbed lunch at Mr Dos with my kids. We ordered dumplings, pho, and crispy rice with crackling pork.

The girl at the front was friendly and helpful. Wait time was about average. The dumplings and pho were good and no complaints there.

Unfortunately, the crispy pork was extremely dry. We took it back and the same staff member said she needed to speak to the boss. Instead of simply apologising and remaking the dish, the boss (tall, balding guy) took the pork, threw it straight in the bin, and visibly showed frustration. It was awkward and unnecessary, especially in front of customers.

The dish was remade using the same rice, and we were asked what protein we wanted instead. At that point I just wanted something simple, so we chose the teriyaki chicken that was already prepared. The replacement meal was fine, but after the way the situation was handled, it really took away from the experience.

Two stars. One for the polite front staff, and one for the dumplings and pho. The food issue itself was fixable, but the attitude and handling of it weren’t great.

Projectile vomit all night long after it was the worse.
I ordered the pho, and although it didn’t taste good, I just thought it was a really bad pho and I certainly didn’t think it would make me sick.
I definitely fell for the mall effect.
Should have checked the reviews.

If you’re reading the reviews before going here, I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. The vermicelli salad had no sauce, just coarsely shredded vegetables. Fried rice is also not seasoned at all, and is stir-fried rice with Coles frozen veggies. They reused 2 leftovers out of 4 spring rolls and don’t even reheat them. This is the worst Vietnamese restaurant I have ever experienced.

The roll had pretty much nothing on it, my partner and I both ordered the crispy pork roll. It had more carrot on it than it did pork with only a couple of pieces of cucumber. If you’re going to be stingy then use smaller rolls or simply just put more pork on it. Also it did haven’t any chilli and wasn’t very flavourful.

I have been coming here for years and used to bring my dad with me sometimes. I have always bought tofu “crunchy fried rice” and I think dad would get his with fried rice. We both enjoyed the food and had no major issues with anything else even though the service was a little inconsistent.

I no longer have the option to bring dad but still come here every couple of months.

Updated review:
A little while ago they completed rebuilt Mr Do’s a few metres away, I’m happy to say that the cleanliness and quality has been restored. The new structure is much more open so if they let standards slip it will be very obvious. I’ve had the crunchy friend rice a few times, no opting for beef and it has been good to really good – I’m not sure why the inconsistency but at least once the beef was a different colour as if they had added the wrong type.

Overall I think the quality has returned and I can recommend Mr Do’s again.

Old review:
…Unfortunately the quality of the food seems to have fallen off recently and I’m wondering if it’s changed owners, staff or how they make the fried rice. I also noticed the disgraceful state of their front counter which drew my attention to look more closely at the kitchen. The kitchen didn’t have such obvious filth but didn’t scream, “we take pride in our cleanliness” either.
There has always been a table and chair attached to the back of Mr Do’s and it doesn’t seem to be cleaned and maintained by the Westfield food court as it has become dirtier and more run down over the years (unless they fixed it since my last visit, I didn’t bother to look today)
If I had been paying attention to start with and had seen the disgusting state of the front counter, the filthy laptop they use as a register and other bits and pieces, I would have gone elsewhere.
When back at Carindale again I’ll pay more attention if tempted to try Mr Do’s again. It seems like their standards have slipped all round so until they lift their game and start respecting their customers, they have lost a customer.

Absolutely horrible service. We ordered and the girl at the counter was quite literally silent the whole time she served us. When we saw them preparing our Bahn mi it was done with no care and I could see the staff ignoring the flies sitting on the carrot right in front of her. After being served our food I mentioned the flies to them and the only response I received was “ok”.

I witnessed an extremely disappointing interaction at this venue today, and it was enough for me to walk away without making a purchase.

A customer who had bought several meals simply asked for a bag. He only had a fifty dollar note, and the staff insisted on charging twenty cents for the bag yet refused to accept his cash. The situation escalated to the point where a staff member came around the counter, removed the customer’s food from the bag he had already paid for, and set it on the counter. It was distressing to watch.

The customer, understandably uncomfortable, asked for a refund after his food had been handled in that way. Once he left, it appeared as if the staff placed the rice paper rolls and sauces back on the shelf, which was extremely concerning from a hygiene and food safety perspective.

The entire exchange was unnecessary and deeply unpleasant. I will not be returning after witnessing how the customer was treated and how the food was handled. It was genuinely upsetting to watch someone be spoken to and treated that way.

Unfriendly, unhelpful staff & overpriced, scungy serving sizes.
Lemongrass beef in the vermicelli salad ($17.90) was nice, but dressing was a tiny serving, lettuce & cucumber were chunky & overall serving size was small. Rice paper rolls were ok ($4.20). Would not return or recommend.

This is a difficult place to review…. Their fried rice and noodle salads are to die for. The food is really delicious and has me thinking about when I will be able to eat their food again soon.

However, the wait times on food are unreasonably long. I waited 40 minutes for the best fried rice I have ever had. Went back a couple of days later and experienced the same yummy food after a similar wait time. Both experiences were during low volume times.

Please Mr Do, serve your food in a timely manner so that I can I enjoy it without the frustration of the long waits.

Seriously… the best chicken fried rice I have ever had.
